We have now officially signed Marshall to a 1 year contract. Salary is not yet out but I assume it's near the minimum. Good signing for a 6/7 d-man who can also play the 4th line if needed.

I wonder if it a two-way contract... I wouldn't be suprised if Burke put him under the gun like that with Popovic and Smid looking good.

Either way, he'll be a good 6th, 7th defenseman.

I doubt it. I don't think it would be necessary. If there is no need for him he can just be a healthy scratch, much like Ward and Burnett last year. Also with a schedule that will be tight he could play a back to back game for someone. ....Or we could just put him in when we play the Kings instead of Popovic ;)

Nice signing. I always liked the way he played. Will always stick up for his teammates. Good 6th/7th d-man.

I like this sign as well, it gives depth at the blue line.
Now I can see Salei traded, I like him very much but I can't see any other solution at this point.

Great pick up. I always liked Jason when he was a Duck and even after he was traded. He will give you 110% every game. He is a good stay at home D-man. With the Cap problem we face, the loss of Salei will not be as bad as once thought.

Perhaps, if Salei is dealt we may have a shot at Temmu. He will give us an extra right handed shot, which we badly need. We have too many lefties.

I'm not too hot on bringing back Teemu at this point. I loved him in his day...but that day is a distant memory.

I'd be surprised if he got more than 30 points this season.

Agreed, I would much rather go after Bondra then Selanne.

A whole year off, with surgery on his knee(s), with rules that benefit him, and actually getting in shape early for once, how are you surprised if he only scored that much?

Remember, Selanne did score 32 or so with Colorado, but that was one year removed from 61 or so. I think he can easily return to that form, especially if he's playing in an up-tempo system in a familiar organization. He'd definetely be a good influence on some of our younger players, as well.

Burke has said that we're too euro as it is. This speculation is silly.

Well, if we sent away Sykora, and brought back Selanne, it's euro for euro, but yeah, I guess we are.

I think he meant in the lower lines a bit more, though. I don't think he'd pass up a cheap scoring option that got him under the cap just because of his nationality.

So you dump a productive euro for a less productive euro?

A couple of things...

It could happen that he scores >30 points, but not on the Ducks dime. In other words it's a gamble that I'm not willing to take.

Second, I'm not all that into turning back the clock. Sure the Kariya/Selanne thing was great in it's time, but the club needs to head in a new direction. Kariya, maybe, if he remembers how to drive the net...Selanne...no.

You make a good point about Selanne being good for the young players...but I think there's a limit to that. He would be good teaching young snipers how to score in the NHL. But aside from that, I don't exactly see him teaching Getzlaf how to backcheck.

I'm glad Burke signed him for the league minimum...

The Mighty Ducks reacquired Jason Marshall, a tough-guy defenseman who spent nearly six full seasons with the club from 1994 to 2001. The one-year deal is worth $450,000.

Marshall, 34, played in 347 games during his first stint with the Ducks, ranking second among defensemen in the club's history behind Ruslan Salei. He has also been with St. Louis, Washington, Minnesota and San Jose, totaling 16 goals, 63 assists and 970 penalty minutes.

Marshall signed with the New York Rangers last August but did not play a game for the team because of the lockout.
