If I were burke...

I've really liked most of the moves Burke has made now...

to me our current lineup is:

Niedermayer/Leclerc Federov Lupul/Sykora - scoring line
Leclerc/Niedermayer Ruchin Kunitz - top defenseive line
Chistov McDonald Sykora/Lupul - 2nd scoring line
Moen Pahlson Federuk - energy line

Defense

Salei Ozo - plays with top scoring line
Carney Niedermayer - plays against other team's top lines, porbably line 2 & 4.
Vish Popovic/Marshall - 3rd paring used with 2nd scoring line or when other lines are tired

And if Getzalf or Perry has a standout training camp you look at removing Chistov or McDonald from lineups...

Anaylyzing team however, I think we're borderline contenders... our defense is amazing... our offense... well its average...

If Perry and Getzalf don't contribute big time, i see us having a hard time scoring a lot of open ice goals...

If I were burke, i'd try to trade Federov and possiblly Sykora, in order to get payroll down, add flexibility, and go after a younger guy in UFA next year or re-sign our impending free agents (Leclerc, Salei, Carney)... Federov is getting old, and if we can replace him with a guy like Lecavailier or Thornton next year, great... I just wouldn't give up any young prospects for them... except maybe chistov...

If thats not a possiblity (because no one wants Federov at his age/salary), I'd be pushing hard to find veterans on the cheap... guys like Leclair, Lindros, etc. who can add some punch to our team without breaking the bank.

I hope Burke can keep our defense together, but i see Salei leaving as a strong possiblity because of his age, versatility, and UFA status... he hasn't had many big pay days and will be looking to cash in...

If Popovic does well, and Smid isn't too far away, I can easaily see us moving Salei to make room for them, and trying to get Carney to retire as a duck on the cheap... he's got a family here now, and I doubt he's going to want to uproot again... he's made his money easily.
