exterminator-x 10-01-2003, 06:22 AM Lightning prospects at Hershey's camp:
Perrin, Soucy, Craig, Artukhin, Dicaire, Eklund
Monday (9/29) -- first day of the Bears camp
Dicaire scored a goal for Team Black against Team White in a 3-2 losing effort. The goal came against Budaj, Hershey's projected #1 goalie.
Tom Lawson, Eklund's competition for a roster spot on the Bears, missed the first day scrimmage due to an illness.
Tuesday (9/30)
Team Black defeated Team White 3-1. One of Black's three goals came from Ryan Craig.
Brian Eklund stopped a Gavin Morgan penalty shot while on the ice for Team White. Later, he took puck off his left collarbone [in nearly the same place as he did in TBL camp] in the second practice and was forced to leave the session. He was taken to the Penn State Sports Medicine complex at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center for evaluation. No word on the extent of the re-injury.
Bears coach Paul Fixter said he likes the line of RW Peter Hay, C Craig Ryan, and LW David Masse.

Soucy scored a goal for Team White against Team Black in a 5-3 losing effort.
exterminator-x 10-02-2003, 08:47 AM Thursday (10/2)
The Bears trimmed their roster today to 31 players. No TBL prospects were released.
PatrickRoy33 10-02-2003, 09:05 PM A blurb from the YDR:
After dropping Monday’s first scrimmage, the Black beat the White team for the third straight day. Thursday’s 3-2 victory came in a shootout. Artukhin, Craig (on a penalty shot) and C Gavin Morgan (his fifth of the week) also scored in regulation time. C Eric Perrin and Masse scored in the shootout. D Mikko Viitanen and RW Steve Brule scored in regulation for the White. …
Fixter said Budaj and rookie Tom Lawson will split time in net. Six inexperienced defensemen are scheduled to play in front of the goalies: Dean Arsene, Cal Benazic, Gerard DiCaire, Jeff Finger, Mark Jerant and Tomas Slovak.
The forward unit should consists of rookies Evgeni Artukhin and David Masse on the left side, J.F. Soucy and Ryan Craig in the middle and Lanny Gare and Peter Hay on the right side.
Brule, Morgan, **Perrin**, LW Travis Brigley and Ds Brett Clark, Marc Busenburg and Agris Saviels all have tonight off but could see action Saturday when the Bears and Pens meet again at Giant Center. The same goes for three rookies: Viitanen and Gs Brian Eklund and Jeff Reynaert. Fixter said a few more cuts could come after tonight’s game.
exterminator-x 10-04-2003, 03:44 PM Hershey's 1st pre-season game Friday night against Wilkes-Barre:
Dicaire: 1A 2PIMs
Artukhin: 7PIMs (charging, fighting)
Holmqvist scored his second goal in as many games in Hamilton's 4-1 win Friday against St. John's.
exterminator-x 10-05-2003, 08:15 PM Hershey's 2nd preseason game: 3-1 loss to Wilkes-Barre:
Perrin: 1A 2PIMs
Soucy: 7PIMs (major boarding)
Artukhin: 2PIMs
Hershey's 3rd preseason game: 2-0 win against Binghamton. Lawson gets the win and SO.
Artukhin 9PIMs (fighting)
Elsewhere on the ice, Bears rookie left wing Evgeni Artukhin engaged in his third fight of the preseason by pummeling defenseman Reagan Rome.
The Sens weren’t happy with Artukhin’s behavior, which means he’ll likely to get a close-up view of Dennis Bonvie, the AHL’s all-time penalty minute leader on Oct. 24 when the teams meet again in Binghamton. Bonvie did not play Sunday. After the game, four TBL prospects were cut from Hershey and sent Pensacola:
Soucy
Dicaire
Craig
Eklund
Tampa's six roster spots in Hershey are currently owned by Perrin, Aleexev, Artukhin, Willis, Trepanier, and Svitov/Cibak. Personally, I think Dicaire should get the spot over Artukhin. I'm with Pete, I'm afraid Hershey is going to push him into a Nazarov-type role.
Looks like Van Hoof won him a AHL job in Hamilton.
exterminator-x 10-05-2003, 08:40 PM Holmqvist scores his third goal in three straight preseason games in a 3-2 losing effort against St. John's.
petec1978* 10-05-2003, 09:12 PM Dicaire and Soucy were both hosed big time. They're too good to be in the ECHL. Same is probably true of Ryan Craig, but I'm interested in seeing him prove it first.
They're ruining Artukhin too. After the way they handled Afanasenkov, Konstantinov, Alexeev, and Svitov the last three years I'm beginning to think this organization may be completely f'ing clueless how to handle young Russian talent, which is frightening when your best long range prospect in Alex Polushin and Dimitri Kazionov may push his way into the top-10 by the end of the season.
Ugh. I don't want to think about it. It makes me want to puke.
At least Holmqvist, Somervuori, and Van Hoof are pretty safe from all this nonsense in Hamilton.

Dicaire is not going to the ECHL, he has been reassigned to the Uthal Grizzlies. He is leaving sometimes this morning.

Interesting, looks like Feaster may have found a few more AHL spots around the league.
You have an online source, by any chance?

I am Gerard's Dad, I got this directly from him last night.

I'd say that makes you a pretty credible source, then!
TBL.com confirmed this move, BTW. Good for Feaster finding another AHL spot. Dicaire would've been wasting his time in the ECHL.

Thanks for the news and welcome, Mr Dicaire. :)
petec1978* 10-06-2003, 10:31 AM Ha! Gerard may be "my boy" in a bragging rights sort of way, but he really IS your boy. Did he get the tape-to-tape utterly flawless passing skills from you or from mom?

avfan#21 10-06-2003, 10:39 AM One can't help but wonder if it was a numbers game with Dicaire? or did Fixter really believe he wasn't one of the top six? The Avs have been building up their dmen depth for a couple of years now, so I knew it would be tight but I just can't help but wonder if this is not simply one of those deals where TB not having their own affiliate could have effected the outcome for one of their prospects.
petec1978* 10-06-2003, 10:47 AM It absolutely is a product of not having a full affiliation, and that's what is so frustrating. Feaster said on a radio interview a week ago he thinks ALL of these young players they just sent to Pensacola have proven they belong at the AHL level. Unfortunately, there isn't a whole heck of a lot that can be done about it right now.
This will be our third straight season without a full affiliation, and our 6th or 7th without a stable one. Hopefully Feaster has learned and will get on the ball early this year rather than waiting to the summer like he has the last two years.

No doubt if we had our own affiliate, this wouldn't have happened.
However, on the surface it doesn't sound like an Avs prospect beat Dicaire out of a spot. According to the York Daily Record, the Bears signed AHL veteren D.J. Smith:
Shuffling the deck: D.J. Smith is in, Gerard DiCaire is out, and three players expected to be in Hershey will start the season in the NHL after several personnel moves Sunday.
.
.
The arrival of Smith gives Hershey seven veterans who have played 260 or more career games in the NHL, AHL, IHL or European elite leagues: left wings Travis Brigley and Brad Larsen; center Eric Perrin; right wing Shane Willis and defensemen Brett Clark, Pascal Trepanier and Smith.
According to AHL rules, only six such vets can play in any given game. Right wing Steve Brule is exempt from the rule since he has played more than 450 career AHL games.
Sounds like to me, Hershey wanting another vet d-man. I think it's disappointing, but we don't call the shots in Hershey.
avfan#21 10-06-2003, 12:15 PM Yeah I didn't get the impression that a prospect had beaten him out. That's why I was inquiring, between the Avs sending DJ Smith down, and the fact that Slovak was a scratch, I guess I kinda seen the writing on the wall. I just wanted a bit of affirmation from the Bolt crew to my thoughts I guess. It's a shame really but I can see the Avs standpoint in it all. Thanks for taking the time to confirm that for me.

Wonder what's up with that sixth spot?
exterminator-x 10-08-2003, 06:10 PM Wonder what's up with that sixth spot?
According to TBL, the agreement w/Hershey is for "up to six spots". Hershey is stocked, especially at defense where the Avs have stockpiled considerable young defensive prospects. That is why DiCaire was loaned out to Utah. The sixth could be filled in the future.
TBL refused to comment on whether the spot is being "held" for Sheldon Keefe if/when the Rangers try to pass him through waivers. ;)
Maybe it's being held open for Rumble for when we sign Berard. :)
Speculations galore from me.

Busted. :D
I'll take 2mins in the box. I promise not to do it again.
Oceanic39* 10-10-2003, 05:27 AM There are currently two spots open on the organizational roster for additions.
There was one open when Priechodsky was bought out, and another opened up when Sheldon Keefe was kicked out on the curb and thrown his suitcase.
One's for Berard.
The other is for Hawkeye.
