Probably true. Now the only question is for how much? If it is the max, then look for Neidermayer to sign elsewhere. The Canucks still need another defenceman, and forward (as well as a goaltending upgrade) but this is good news.

If this is true.... I'm very happy that we've re-signed Naslund. It solidifies the team and hopefully answers many questions (like Bertuzzi wanting out).

I'll be very happy if we are at least going to ice the same team as last year. Though, I'll be ecstatic if somehow Naslund took a paycut so we could get someone like Niedermayer to push us over the edge. Even I know that that is pushing it.

If true, that's awesome! With the talks that Kariya is set to sign with San Jose, it makes me think that it is true, as Kariya would've at least waited to see what Naslund did before he made his move. Naslund doesn't strike me as a greedy person and moreso as someone who would like to win a cup more than anything, so perhaps he has taken less in order to allow Nonis to sign some help?

This isn't a good thing until 1)it's official and 2)more importantly, the terms of the deal are released. If the signing completely handcuffs the Canucks, this is not a good thing.

I do hope the deal isn't ridiculous though, since Markus IS 32, and although he's in good shape, I hope the deal isn't for too long either.

Whomever is giving players 5 year deals are stupid.

This is an important deal for continuity. Teams need a core to build around. Naslund, Bertuzzi. Morrison provide that core. Hopefully they can get Morrison for a decent long term deal as well. Systems take a years to put in place. Those teams that blow themselves up so they can start with a bunch of new players will need awhile to get their stuff together.

Hopefully it's for under 6 million. Canucks need to improve other areas of their team, they need cap space.

I disagree with the one who said that his contract may handcuff the Canucks. If Vancouver are able to bring back the exact same roster, they will be in a great position. I don't see the need for Scott Neidermayer as our defense is fine at the moment, and adding a third #1 defensemen is unneccessary.

VERY important signing for us. Helps solidify the core.

Absolutely agree. Who knows how far we would have gone last year if Todd the Bonehead didn't get himself suspended for the playoffs? This team does not need a complete makeover.

^ I've said all along, Niedermayer would be a great addition, but he isn't a NECESSITY for us. Our defense is quite solid as it is now, we can maybe tweak it with some more toughness in the 5 - 6 spot, but thats about it.

Sorry man, this is killing me, Scotty was my first prospect that I fell in love with and that led to eventually for me to fall in love with all following prospects.

Niedermeyer was my boy from day one and still is. I still remember when in 1990 Lou traded Tom Kurvers to Toronto in 1990 for their top draft pick in the 1991 draft and at the time Eric Lindros was the top prize of the 1991 draft.

Well after the Leafs sucking for most of the 1991 season and turning it on towards the end of the season and as a result leaving the Devils with just the "3rd" pick of that rich draft and after San Jose took Pat Fallon with the 2nd overall pick we took my boy Nieder and thus began my love with prospects.

I think the odds are still quite high

This is AWESOME news!! I was very optimistic he would re-sign, but after reading the reports yesterday, saying 18 teams were inquiring, I became a little less thrilled. I just didn't see him leaving though and I am still a little guarded, but am believing this one, since it's not coming from someone like Eklund, but an actual (actually a couple) reliable sources.

I still want Niedermayer :( Although Naslund is nice.

Naslund has signed a 3-year contract according to this morning's Province.

Yup, it's official. The Province has two stories on it, and Adrian Dater has a story on it in the Denver Post.

Three years, 18Mil are supposed to be the terms. A bit pricey, but he's a top 5 forward in the NHL, so what do you expect? Two other teams offered him the same contract, but he chose to stay in VAN. Woooo.

Still have to sign Ohlund, Salo, Allen, Sopel, someone to replace Malik the octopus, Morrison, Sedins, Ruutu, May, Cooke, Chubarov, someone to play wing with the Sedins, Cloutier....

Don't like to rain on the parade but signing Naslund at 6 greatly reduces any chance of getting another high end free agent.

Also with Pronger now in Edmonton, that takes them out of the Niedermayer sweepstakes... Calgary has also just committed another $2.6mill to Amonte and McCarthy...

so if Niedermayer wants to stay in Western Canada, Edmonton is out of the picture, and it comes down to two teams who have both been using their payroll space eslewhere...

so how much does Niedermayer really want to play in Western Canada over the highest bidder?

guess we'll find out soon enough.

btw... any new news on the Forsberg-Naslund pkging themselves?? is there still a chance at both, or have we lost the very slim chance we had with this?
