GoPenguins 09-29-2003, 02:55 PM Hi everyone.
What do you guys expect from Trevor Letowski this year production-wise? He seemed to be everywhere yesterday as you hadnily dismissed the Pens (only listened by radio tho so cant say if he was literally everywhere).
Can he break the 20 goal plateau, or is he primarily a PK man? Does he play on the PP?
Any insight gratefully digested. Good luck to your Blue Jackets this coming season.
Thanks!
Matt Foley* 09-29-2003, 04:24 PM Letowski's career best was 19G, 20A a few years back with Phoenix; he will likely get as much ice time as he ever has, so perhaps he can produce similar numbers. While goals will always be welcome from him, his biggest contributions to the success of the team will likely be his tenacity on the third line (helping turn that line into a positive +/- unit) and his PK abilities.
Between 10-15 goals and 20-25 assists. The biggest stat for him, and for everyone on the team, will be that plus/minus though.
KeithBWhittington 09-30-2003, 05:16 AM Grant Marshall came in here and broke his season totals, why can't Letowski do the same thing? He will be playing much more then he was in Vancouver and he will be playing as a Sillinger-type player, on the PK a lot, expect a few shorties
3mta3 09-30-2003, 05:18 AM I expect 30 points plus a lot of value off the scoresheet.
jackets63 09-30-2003, 09:40 AM How do you figure he'll get more ice time here than anywhere else? He'll be a 3rd liner and PK guy. Isnt that roughly the same as he was on his other teams?
I agree with most though, the +/- is the only stat I really worry about. I dont care if he scores 7 goals this year if he has a +/- of +10 or higher. His play wont be measured in goals and assists in the current situation. If he ever moves up to the top 2 lines, it may change.
Samkow 09-30-2003, 11:38 AM seriously, I dont think 50 Points isnt out of the question. Ive been really impressed with his speed and playing with Knutsen should help him plot goals.
jackets63 09-30-2003, 01:53 PM I dont think he'll play with Espen. Think the lines are starting to shake out and the 2nd and 3rd are looking like:
Nash-Marchant-Knutsen
Letowski-Pirjeta-Wright
Those have looked pretty good lately.

Letowski AND Wright on the same line. Owwwww. Luv it.
BTW, I thought Letowski played C or RW? How much does a guys handedness (?????) effect which wing he plays. I would think that a guy who shoots left would be preferable on the right wing, and vice versa. Not a hockey player, myself, so if anyone has a good answer, run it by me.:dunno:

I too like Wright and Letowski....
I think Letowski is listed as a C, but normally plays RW...
jackets63 09-30-2003, 08:29 PM Yeah, I thought he was mainly a RW of C too, but hes been playing mostly LW when Ive seen it lined up.
To fan-o-45: I shoot right handed and I feel much more comfortable playing LW or left defense. Picking the puck up off the boards takes some getting used to, especially at a fast pace, but once you get it down I think it makes everything easier. You have to get used to recieving passes on your backhand as well. And when you come down the wing, you have to cut more towards the middle, but thats where youd rather shoot from anyway.
However, from everything I see and read, I think I am in the vast minority. Usually the only time you see a righty playing the left side is on the power play when they want the sticks to the inside for one-timers. It doesnt really even make sense for me to play the left side when you think about all the concessions Ive mentioned that you have to do to play the "off wing," but I think for me its just that I feel more comfortable on the left where I can keep all the action to my stronger (right) side.
Any other players have any opinions on the matter?

I shoot right and I'm the same way, except that I'd rather play right on D, unless it's a pp situation (it's easier to one-time or dish to the other point playing the offside, but easier to take away my side even strength when playing the right side). On wing, however, I like playing the offside, b/c like you said it's an easier step to the middle to get off a good shot, though it takes adjustment. Also I like to do the 'Denis Savard' spin to the left board (therein protecting the puck with your body) and then pass across the ice, but that's just me, hehe...
At anyrate, we're certainly in the minority, as not only do most players shoot left, but most people hate playing on the 'offwing'.. Like you, I simply feel more comfortable there for some reason...
3mta3 10-01-2003, 04:10 AM I recall having that question when Bicanek was here. He played his off side. MacLean mentioned that it was more common to see in European players (defensemen in particular).
