Joakim Lindström

"While the Blue Jackets got top draft pick Nikolai Zherdev signed and may not be able to get him out of Russia, another young European player they didn't sign this summer might have made the team.

Joakim Lindstrom, the team's second-round pick (41st overall) in the 2002 draft, wasn't signed because coach and general manager Doug MacLean didn't think he would be ready. Then he came to camp and opened some eyes. The 19-year-old center has since gone back to MoDo of the Swedish Elite League.

''He has gone back to the Elite League in Sweden because he had signed a contract there and we didn't have a contract done with him by July 15,'' MacLean said. ''In hindsight, maybe I would have signed him, but I didn't see him being as far ahead as he was. But it's fine, he'll go ahead and play in the Elite League, and it's a great league.''"

Read it and Weep.

Why weap?

Another year with MoDo will only serve him well.

AND!

It doesn't make me look so bad pegging him as our 5th best prospect!

i have always been a huge fan of his....he has always had a ton of talent, its good to see he is starting to put it all together. if he can stay healthy this year, he could be a big addition to the team next year. we could possibly have him, zherdev, fritsche, jackman, johnson all ready next year.

I doubt he'll cross the Atlantic till he's 21 or 22. Unless he comes over to play in the AHL.

Let's not forget the other top 5 pick we'll be adding in this year (Ovechkin, Barker, Olesz, Wolaski, and someone else...)

Just curious, what void will you be looking to fill in the draft? Dman, goalie, or Forward?

Interesting question.

I'd like to say a top defenseman.
Everyone would like another front-line forward.
Goaltending will be a question mark if Leclaire struggles.

Quite the dilemma.

I'm gonna say a forward with two-way potential. JMO

a few things. one, i never said any of those guys would be playing for us, i just said that they would probably be ready to step in on the big club...second, how do you know he wont be over. if dm thought he was ready, maybe, now, then he probably will offer him next year. third, there is no way we are drafting in the top 5 next year :) are you gonna watch any games, casue you sure think we are gonna suck

i would say a TOP dman, cause, while we have some good ones, it would be nice to have a second top flight guy to go with klesla. next i would say a two way forward, then goalie

He is signed with MoDo through this season. After that, he does not have a contract. He could easily be over here for 2004-05.

i wish there was a place to see min. played, but through 2 games joakim is pointless. he is a minus 1, which is sadly good for modo as they have been outscored 10-1

I think snagging a big, top-flight, defensive defenseman is in order. After that, forwards. I'm not worried so much about goaltending. If Leclaire doesn't turn it around, there's still Pennar

RD, you know I love the Jackets, and yes we improved over the summer, but did every other team in the Western conference. I've been to all three home preseason games, and the defensive zone coverage sucks as much as the first three season. I'm sitting there at the Rangers game as they cycle the puck for 45 seconds and think "Wow, doesn't this look familar." I'm the pessimistic Jackets fan for a reason, and until they show me otherwise, I don't see them getting more 75 points.

yes, but i dont think we are the worst team in the western conf...and there are a ton of teams in the east that suck...montreal, carolina, pitt, come to mind, and thats just for starters

i say best available non-goaltender. d-man would be preferable, but if at our draft position (whatever that might be) there is are better forwards sitting there, i hope we pull the trigger.

(something inside is telling me to just let it slide, but I cant fight it back any longer :p hey, ive got a reputation to uphold now)

If you want optimisim, you'll have to check out one of the Nedorost threads. He's the only player who doesnt have to prove himself around here.
