Looks like Niedermayer's proving alot of people wrong in that he's not a good offensive player. If he played like this during a big part of the season, he'd do awesome.

Also looks like Getzlaf is showing he can compete at NHL level. He'll probably get sent back to juniors though, where he'll only get better. Maybe we'll sign him and see how he does for a while.

Fedorov is likely still udjusting to Anaheim. He's been impressive in faceoffs, and now found the scoreboard. I don't think he'll be a bust once the regular season starts, and Babcock uses him in every single situation.

Hopefully tomorrow against the Sharks he'll finally just break out and start on a scoring rampage. But, all things put aside, he has clearly replaced Oates as a faceoff leader. Now to work on point production.

Lupul shouldn't worry too much. Getz will likely only be around for a few reg. season games. Then back to Calgary. BM probably wants him to develop more in the dub.

I'm not overly worried about Fedorov either. It took Oates awhile to adjust too.

Concerns me more that the Ducks lost a 2 goal lead in the 3rd period. Although it was mostly young guys on the ice when the GA were scored. That probably won't happen in the regular season.

Good to see Niedermayer go off. Hope he saves some for the season.

I too think Getzlaf will be sent down to juniors. IMO, Lupul makes the team. It's Smirnov who may have reason to be concerned.

IMO Fedorov is going to disappear like Yashin did on the Island but since the Ducks have a better overall supporting cast than the Isles do I wouldn't worry. For those who saw/heard the game which players on the Panthers looked/sounded most impressive? I know we didn't have our top players in the lineup and we used our 3rd goalie Chris Mason in net, any opinions would be much appreciated thanks in advance!

On Severson, Lupul and Rucchin:

Jean-Sebastien Giguere gave up four goals and made 32 saves in his first game of the exhibition season The Ducks were hit by the flu bug Friday, which forced Babcock to alter his lineup. Steve Rucchin never made it to the arena for the skate Friday morning. Lupul and Mark Popovic were sent home The Ducks sent goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to minor league Cincinnati Florida offered left wing Niklas Hagman to the Ducks, who were not interested at this time, a hockey source said Cam Severson left Friday's game after being slashed on the left wrist; X-rays were negative.

Hagman has been in Keenan's doghouse for quite some time. I think he can be lazy at times. But I like what I saw of him in the Olympics and he could be a player in the NHL, if given the right situation. Is it with the Ducks? Probably not. We got too many kids to develop.

Hagman isn't lazy, it's his poor hands that makes Keenan angry.

I like the old proverb (it might lose something in translation though...), "lot's of noise and smoke but nothing happens" when describing Hagman meaning he always gives his 110% on the ice but has no results to show for it.

Ahh yes, people in Anaheim are well aware of this old Chinese proverb. We use to call this Matt Cullen. :)

"Sound and fury signifying nothing." I like Hagman, he's kind of like a Sammy Pahlsson on the wing. He wouldn't necessarily be expected to score on our team, but skate hard and bump and bang, which he's quite good at. I think the reason Keenan wants to trade is the glut of forwards in Florida, and Hagman's salary ($905k). Unless there's something I'm missing, I really wouldn't mind him on our team.

Kinda agree with that too. Not sure what Florida was asking for but Hagman looked good out there last night. Fast and Gritty something you can't have enought on your team as for Keenan - well it doesn't take much/long to be in his doghouse but it takes an awful lot of time to get out of it again - can't believe that this egomaniac still has a coaching job in the NHL.

He plays decent. He's actually used in a lot of penalty situations. So that in itself is a big plus. I think he's paired up the Johnson when on PK duties. He will make the team b/c the coaches have confidence in him on the PK situations, which requires more responsibility.

I watched the game on Friday and can say this about Fedorov...

He's worth the money spent! He may not have points on the board or papers, but what he does on the ice is amazing! He's flying with the puck and producing lots of opportunities for whoever is on his line! That nite it was Chistov and Sykora. They both had some great passes from Fedorov. Havelid had a nice opportunities to score from a feed from Fedorov, but just didn't finish it well. Already there is chemistry between Feds, Chistov, Sykora and Ozo as they all touched the puck on the offensive zone with precision, but didn't finish again. Defensively, Feds is sound! So is Prospal!!! Those guys just hustle and hustle and on offense, try to set everyone up! No complaints from me on Fedorov, even though he hasn't scored a lot yet. = )

As for letting the Panthers get back into the game... well, the team fell fast asleep in the end of the 2nd to the 3rd period. The panthers were getting away with a lot of penalties, but the Ducks would be penalized for ever little thing!!! grrrrrrrrr. I think that essentially, made the ducks awfully tired. As for Ward not producing well... i think that's not a good assessment going into the third period. Ward was used as a defenseman in the first two periods. Then in the third he was used as BOTH forward and defensive positions! Heck, i'm impressed that he tried. At that point we had lost Burnett to a game misconduct and Severson to a wrist injury.

The Panthers team was trying to instigate a lot of crap on the ice. I think Keenan thought this was a regular season game. Cheap shots after the whistle blows and all. i really didn't like the officiating all that much.

oh yeah...reminds me, Chistov finally pushed back! amazingly, Chistov forecheck and the guy fell down to the ice. not surprisingly, he went after Chistov after the whistle blew. there were plenty of " almost fights ", individual ones ( sykora, prospal, ward, chistov ) and team involvements. LoL Smirnov did come to separate lil Chistov from a bigger Panther. Smirnov stuck his long reached arms out to push the panther away from Chistov and ignored the panther at the same time. the player didn't do anything b/c Smirnov was much bigger to deal with. heh heh

all i can say is that i hope we don't play Florida again b/c they play dirty. and we duck fans know our players aren't the dirty type. in fact, outside of Burnett, no other ducks would throw a punch.

Anyhow, the first two periods were fun! the third period was boring till the final minutes and OT. boring b/c it was 4-2 and i think the ducks were lulled into not playing anymore.
