Do somebody have scouting informations about Janis Sprukts?

I have his statistics, but I need some souting details, what kind of player he is, what are his assets and flaws...

Thanks a lot!

Janis Sprukts is a big, strong power forward. He goes hard to the net, has great hands and a pretty good vision on the ice. The knock on his game has always been his skating and his defensive coverage, but sinc ehis time int he QMJHl he has improved greatly in both of those categories. Real Paiement, with the Bathurst Titan gave him a huge role on the PK and he stepped up and excelled in the role.

He has already signed with the Florida Panthers, but chose to stay closer to home rather than play in the ECHL. He was having some trouble finding a team this year, but got a spot with HK Riga 2000 after the unfortunate passing of Sergejs Zoltoks.

Sprukts has been a member of the Latvian National team on 8 occaisions, including 3 World Championships. His first senior tournament was at the age of 17.

Janis is a hard-working player who gives it his all, and has really become a leader in the Latvian program, and I think could be an NHL player.

Really interesting!

Thanks a lot!

:highclap:

I was impressed of his play during the World Championships. Grits Ankipans seems to be another good player.

The least we can say is that Latvia is working real hard even if the talent is defficient.

Nice analysis Stevenet, any player(s) you'd compare Janis to?

I dont really know if I could find a reasonable comparison to Janis. With his size and strength as well as his offensive capabilities, I am a little hard-pressed to find a suitable comparission.

He is kinda a Bertuzzi-type (the good part, not the psycho) without the flash. He goes hard, is very solid, can play both ways (although he is probably better than Bertuzzi defensively, and a little less offensive), but he is just a big man who can move and play a very solid all-around game.

I was very impressed his play at championship. Ankipans and Redlihs were also impressive a bit.
And 19 year old D Galvins didn´t look out of place.

I was very pleased with Ankipans performance. He is a veteran guy who has bounced around from team to team and hasnt made much of an impact in the National program, but he really stepped up to the plate at the tourney.

Redhlis is a solid kid, but the knock on him is still his decision making...sometimes you see him make a pass and you cringe as it is either intercepted, deflected or simply ourt of place. He will mature with time, but he played decently.

Guntis Galvins is a great young talent. He was playing physical, and looked very strong out there, especially for his age. All the attention was on Anze Kopitar (with good reason), but i think Guntis turned some heads.

Redlihs will play for Bjorkloven next season and I always ask myself why many Latvians play in lower level competitions. I think players like Ankipans, Cipulis, Sirokovs, Nizivijs, Redlihs could play successfully in elite leagues in Czech, Slovakia or Finland.
I´m not sure if someone of them is good enough to be drafted but IMO they have ability to play in better competitions than they are playing right now.

If i right, than Bjorklowen is coached by former latvian NT player Belavskis, so partly decision was made based on this fact. But if you ask me, Swedeish 2nd leage isnt that bad.

I don´t claim Swedish second league is bad but I believe some of Latvian players are capable of being successful(play regularly) in top leagues.

Sprukts needs to play more straight forward, and for playing straight forward, the swedish league is one of the best in the world for that kind of development.

I´m aware that Redlihs will play in Sweden next season but I heard nothing regarding Sprukts transfer to Sweden. Where will he play next season?

Ah. I misunderstood ^^

Would be nice to see Sprukts there too :D but he'll likely be in the AHL.

HPK Hämenlinna. Very good team. I wonder if he'll fit in... Stylewise Finland should be perfect for Sprukts.

He has been doing very well. He's one of the top 10 to top 20 scorers in the FEL. Slightly better than I expected, right off the bat.

Janis Sprukts may be able to play in the world championchips after all. He might be back to the Sm-liiga playoffs :handclap: :handclap:

Yes, Janis played both P-O games against Ilves. His not doing his best yet due to the injury, but getting better.

He was voted a fan favourite after the regular season and got second assist (1st P-O point) in game winner today against Tampereen Ilves.

Im happy too see hes revocering from injury. It will take time for him to reach the form he had in regular season, still good news!
