this is the game i've been looking forward too, hopefully our D can hold thier ground and win the battles. Marty needs to be better and sharper then he was against latvia, anyone who can't get up for this game shouldn't be in this tourny. that being said GO Canada.
Rabid Ranger 05-04-2005, 11:22 PM This is going to be a tough test for the United States. I watched the first two games (against Slovenia and Latvia), and while the U.S. had some nice spurts, they (in particular the defense) were pretty lax for some long stretches, and that isn't going to fly against Canada. I have liked the play of several of the forwards, especially Weight, Parrish, and Cole, but more players, including Mike Modano have to step up and keep up the pressure on a Canadian defense that has been a bit inconsistent. Whoever starts in goal for the U.S. will have to be on top of their game as well. I predict a 5-3 Canadian victory, but wouldn't be surprised if the U.S. pulled out the win.
Habsfan 32 05-04-2005, 11:32 PM 3-1 for Canada. It will be a tight checking and rough game. Canadian goals will be scored by Heatley,Nash  and Souray. The American goal will be scored by Weight. I expect a great game from both teams and I can't wait to watch Canada play against a good team like the USA.
Bergeron47 05-04-2005, 11:34 PM It'll be close alright.
I'll say 4-2 or 4-3 Canada..

jcpenny 05-05-2005, 11:22 AM Canada will play with a sense of urgency for the first time in the tournament and should dominate down low. The question is, is Brodeur and the defense ready to raise their game up?
Steveorama 05-05-2005, 11:42 AM Canada is not going to go thru this tourney undefeated. This is the game they lose. They always need a loss early to get their attention.
I predict Brodeur struggles, leading to Luongo becoming the number one goalie the rest of the way. Canada outshoots US, but loses 3-2.
Everest 05-05-2005, 11:52 AM Today is the day! A real chance for Canada to prove they are sharp and prepared to win it all.
keys to the game:
Bordeur: Can't afford to be "untidy" today. Handle the puck safely but effectively,no bad rebounds...USA will be much tougher in front of our goal than the last 2 opponents.
Draper/Maltby/Smyth line: Got together around halfway through the last game...I really like these 3 together...hope to see them again today...whoever they match up with they must force turnovers and cycle the puck...this line can wear down the Americans.
Canadian Powerplay: Best in the tourney so far? Can be a huge part of our success...but like Brodeur the powerplay is getting its first "real test" today...so step one is to gain the zone, step 2 get shots on net...somewhere inbetween step 2 and atep 3 we have to control the play....down low...and not let our chaotic defencemen (Jovo) run around....no shorthanded chances/goals allowed! The backbone of the powerplay is the 3 or 4 different players we have who go to the crease and make plays/finish. Nash,Thorton,Smyth and perhaps Doan...Heatley should take a few more shots too!

Canada will play with a sense of urgency for the first time in the tournament and should dominate down low. The question is, is Brodeur and the defense ready to raise their game up?
That's what i'm wondering. Will they start making their switches and start playing competent man to man defense this game because if they don't they are in for some trouble.I would have preffered a tougher game for us going into this tilt but Slovenia is what was scheduled so we deal with it. this should be a dandy game with lot's of intensity and i expect both teams to put together their best effort to date, they always seem to when they meet.I think we can all look forward to a good game,it might be sloppy to start out as both teams nerves get settled but once they do watch out!! this could be the game of the tourney to this point....i am saying 4-3 Canada but whatever team loses you can be sure this is just the kind of game both teams need in order to get ready for the playoff rounds, and that's what it's all about. Ya wanna win but you want to get razor sharp ready also.
ricknashfan_61 05-05-2005, 12:30 PM 5-3 Canada.
Canadas forwards dominate a small-ish USA defence and Heatley finally breaks loose. Brodeur plays great and his USA counterpart can't match, whoever it is.
4-1 Canada
shakes 05-05-2005, 12:41 PM :shakehead Shutout? But Latvia can score four goals?

Everest 05-05-2005, 03:57 PM USA has missed its chance to steal this game...Canada is done looking silly, they are going to come out like a houseonfire to start the 2nd period.
Good game as expected.Nice game plan devised by U.S coaches to stop canuck forecheck.....use the lock and depend on Dipietro steer it out when it gets in and it's worked so far.If Canada can break that then the tide should turn and the goals will start coming. We've handled Weight nicely on pk and have played better defensively with the exception of a couple of guys who i won't mention.Brodeur looks sharp. If we can solve that lock and stay tight defensively.......we'll get them.
Shack 05-05-2005, 04:01 PM We've seen alot of good shorthanded play by both teams. Team US has been alot better than I tought. Hopefully teams will start to give some astounding hits.
wedge 05-05-2005, 04:01 PM souray...why is he on this team?
because of his great half-season with Montreal last year and the fact he played some hockey this year... He's supposed to be in shape. Since the injury he had last year, he's never been the offensive force he was at the beginning of the 2003-2004 season.. and he probably won't ever be again
wassup77 05-05-2005, 04:01 PM souray...why is he on this team?
because he is from Canada.
waffledave 05-05-2005, 04:02 PM souray...why is he on this team?
He's not even playing badly. I don't know what you're reffering to. He took a bad penalty but otherwise he's actually been playing much better than half the D-men on the team.
You want to talk bad playing, then look no further than Jovo.
Everest 05-05-2005, 04:02 PM It has to start with physicality...we need some hits and hungry puck pursuit to spark us.

I'm personally a huge fan of international rules. If we could use the rules on regular sized ice the nhl would be a better brand of hockey to watch.

Little men shouldn't play hockey then. He didn't raise his elbow or anything. The US player seemed like he was trying to get out of the way and took the check in the head.

2-1 canada.. and 4-2 final.... canada
Everest 05-05-2005, 04:46 PM agreed ... his PK has been second to none on the American team
He's eating up Hannan...which is good because I'm sick of hearing people saying Hannan is a great defenceman...he's floating on the same cloud as a year ago when he wrestled Forsberg to the ice so many times. Hannan is a clucth and grabber who lacks the footspeed to handle players in the open ice...which is tough on the big ice.
topshelf331 05-05-2005, 04:46 PM agreed ... his PK has been second to none on the American team
I thought stastny has looked pretty solid on the PK.
The Joker 05-05-2005, 04:46 PM This game is so boring. Is it just me or is their no sound beside the sound of the announcers?

Everest 05-05-2005, 04:52 PM Would it be too much to ask for Fisher or some other player to line up Weight the way Gionta got filled in?
Levitate 05-05-2005, 04:52 PM yah, the us player was hunched over.
you know, IMO this is kind of like the high sticking rules. you can hit a guy with your stick in the face accidently and it's still a penalty because you weren't careful with your stick. just like you can check a guy in the head accidently and it can still be a penalty because you should be careful with hits to the head.
if it was some ticky tacky thing that didn't have the potential for some series injury to players, i wouldn't want penalties called...but considering how it can end players careers and eff up their lives pretty badly, trying to prevent hits to the head, even accidental ones, isn't a bad idea IMO.
The Joker 05-05-2005, 04:54 PM Maybe the game is good, but it just lacks something because there's no sound :dunno:

The USA is in this game...but we can bury them if we get rolling as a team.
Shack 05-05-2005, 04:54 PM Man Nash is rock solid. 2nd goal was work of art.
He even looked behind if he could pass to some one, but when there was no change he used his body and stick to make the highlight goal.

Canada was able to bounce back from the last US goal quite easily
America is working harder than Canada, but Canada's just a more talented squad. I can't really see America pulling this one out at this point. Maybe with a couple fluke goals.

We (the americans) had our chance in the first period with the Power Play chances 3 or 4 of them and didn't cash in big time 2 or more goals = cashing in ... I hope they take something good away from this game if they don't come back, because they have played a really good game, imho
Lot's of action that period.****...Jo-Vo.hope it wakes the guy up.Fisher needs to see more ice time,he deserves it.Gionta is a dandy little player, wish we had him.
Interesting to hear Healey compare how Nash owns the goalie in the way Lemiuex used to own him when he was shooting on him. Nice compliment to Nash
