first powerplay for russia
stv11 04-30-2005, 10:32 AM Nice play by Datsyuk

Kozlov-Yashin-Fedorov
Afinogenov-Kovalchuk - ?
o boy russia dominates ...............
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 10:35 AM o boy russia dominates ...............
Austria has come into his own now, but the russians are actually 2 steps ahead at least at this point.
Brückler has a busy evening...
damn Malkin is a horse
another PP Datsyk with smoooooooooth move
john g 04-30-2005, 10:38 AM another PP coming up
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 10:38 AM Some nice plays by austria now, but next powerplay for russia.
Trattnig off for holding.
This game will cost me 10 years of my life...
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 10:38 AM What means KHELDAR? in your avatar?
It's a character in a series of heroic-fantasy books by David Eddings. I love the character and the name sounds pretty cool too, so I adopted it as my web nickname !
Good puck control by the Russians so far, Datsyuk being the most dangerous player. He just draws another PP for Russia. Come on Ilya !!!
john g 04-30-2005, 10:40 AM Yashin misses two almost 'sure' goals
stv11 04-30-2005, 10:40 AM Nothing comes from the blueline. Kovalev should play the point on the power play
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 10:41 AM Ovechkin :(
Ovechkinnnnnnnnnnnn !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1:0
stv11 04-30-2005, 10:42 AM What a pass !
john g 04-30-2005, 10:42 AM Ovechkin 1-0
now that was puck poise :)
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 10:42 AM As predicted, Datsyuk is a one-man wrecking ball, going through two guys with his skating and physical determination. Looks great. (And I don't like any Red Wings not named Steve Y)
Yet the Austrians have surprisingly had the puck into the Russian zone four times, though without shots.
Now a Russian powerplay and Yashin missed on two shots. The Austrians are killing the powerplay effectively, only one good save needed.
Too many individual-based play on Russia. Kovalchuk surge. Afinogenov surge. Datsyuk surge. It's pretty lame.
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 10:42 AM Ovechkin !!! Right as the PP expires, turnover at the Austrian blue line, and nice finish by Ovechkin !
From Malkinnnnnnnnn !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Berkut 04-30-2005, 10:43 AM 2:0????
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 10:43 AM Turnover of puck and Ovechkin mishandles, bobbles the puck in, but the Austrian goalie goes down so slow, so early, that Ovechkin's bobbling made no difference, he ended up with an empty net to dump the puck in.
There's nothing impressive about Russia so far this game. Even the goal looks lame.
stv11 04-30-2005, 10:43 AM What a dumb penalty...
another PP SHAIBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU ! :yo:

go home :biglaugh:
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 10:47 AM First shot.
Ovechkins goal was just caused by lack of concentration by Daniel Welser. He should have just cleared the puck...
But Ovechkin's skills are sick. Moves the puck into the air, fakes one shot and the second one is in...
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 10:48 AM On the replay, the pass to Ovechkin was good. Not much good passing so far this game though. Austria is clogging and Russia's trying to... it's not clear, play puck hog?
Malkin + Ovechkin what a future
stv11 04-30-2005, 10:49 AM Did the austrian annoncer just call Ovechkin "Ovechnikov" ?
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 10:49 AM Silk :yo:
Yeah Baby !!! Good to see some love for the Prince of Drasnia :)
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 10:50 AM Even when shorthanded the russians are dangerous. But great save by Brückler this time.
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 10:50 AM But Ovechkin's skills are sick. Moves the puck into the air, fakes one shot and the second one is in...
Ovechkin displayed no skill on that goal.
Afinogenov just made a good individual surge.
I like Russia usually... but am very concerned with the lack of unified team play, not enough chemistry or passing.
I've counted five times the Russians have dumped the puck into the Austrian zone. At least two of them, of course, while killing a penalty now of course.
john g 04-30-2005, 10:51 AM Yeah Baby !!! Good to see some love for the Prince of Drasnia :)

Sadly, he's been getting worse with time. Regina's Song for example.
Mr. Penguin 04-30-2005, 10:53 AM Setzinger 1-1!!!!!!! Nice PP goal.
Damn this is an awesome game! :handclap:
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 10:53 AM Austria on the PP. Bad rebound by Sokholov even though he was screened. And the crowd goes wild :yo:
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 10:54 AM Austria WINS the face-off in the offensive zone, passes back to the point, passes over to the other side, then behind the net to the other side, passed back to the point, passed inside, shot, rebound score!
Like seven good passes after winning the face off.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 10:54 AM Damn. The russians attack our goalie
stv11 04-30-2005, 10:55 AM Bad call by the ref here
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 10:55 AM Datsyuk surge again.
(pass Russia pass)
another penalty to Austria. holding.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 10:56 AM Did the austrian annoncer just call Ovechkin "Ovechnikov" ?
Do you watch the austrian broadcast?
Austrian announcers are just used to make events like skiing :P they have no idea about hockey.
jmelm 04-30-2005, 10:56 AM is this game televised anywhere?
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 10:59 AM This isn't pond hockey guys!
They are playing like it's keepaway, hogging the puck and trying to do it all themselves.
Shoot even Kovalev opted to surge by himself rather than pass.
Do they think the Austrians can't check them?
Give Austria credit for making the large ice surface look smaller, taking away many of these individual attempts.
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 11:00 AM What did Ilya get called for ? Unsportmanlike conduct?
john g 04-30-2005, 11:01 AM is this game televised anywhere?

I watch the game on ORF1. I have to make the best use the few interesting channel we've got here in western Switzerland
RUS - AUS 1:1
CAN - LAT 1:1
not bad
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:02 AM the russians always attack the goalie. that's why they finally got the penalties.
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 11:03 AM 1-1 after one period.
Austrian successfully killed several penalties.
Why?
Russia tried to force the play in, but they aren't outmuscling the Austrians.
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 11:04 AM well, we have a good powerless play, no real defense ... but hey, that's only 20 minutes into the tournament, and the kid on my avatar already scored!

True.
Good stat for Ovechkin but the team has to get MUCH better as a team
to win gold!
nikki9 04-30-2005, 11:06 AM well, we have a good powerless play, no real defense ... but hey, that's only 20 minutes into the tournament, and the kid on my avatar already scored!
Go Ovechkin!!!!!!!!!!
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 11:07 AM Go Ovechkin!!!!!!!!!!
Come on, the skill on that play was totally in the pass to him from....
Malkin?
stv11 04-30-2005, 11:09 AM I'm really disappointed by Russia so far. They are always attacking with only three players as the defense is almost not involved in the play, even on the power play, and only the Datsyuk - Kovalev - Kharitonov line had some good passing play. On the other hand, I'm not impressed by Austria. Apart from the goal, they couldn't create any scoring opportunity.
i am watching it on that mediazone streaming broadcast
Is it a clear broadcast or does it keep buffering?
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 11:14 AM I'm really disappointed by Russia so far. On the other hand, I'm not impressed by Austria. Apart from the goal, they couldn't create any scoring opportunity.
Exactly. But I'm surprised because that's not how Russia played against Sweden last week. This team looks slower, not very creative in the offensive zone.
We'll see what's it gonna be like in the 2nd period.
Go Russia! :yo:
nikki9 04-30-2005, 11:15 AM Come on, the skill on that play was totally in the pass to him from....
Malkin?
Sorry, I don't know, I'm not watching that game cause I cannot get it. Go Malkin!!!
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 11:16 AM Is it a clear broadcast or does it keep buffering?
on full screen it keeps stopping
but on the small screen it's smooth, uninterrupted
on my computer
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 11:17 AM Is it a clear broadcast or does it keep buffering?
Pretty clear broadcast but a couple of 2s pauses during the first period. On the other hand, it takes some time to see the puck becuase resolution is average. I'm sure the quality of the downloaded versions of the games will be better though...
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:18 AM I'm really disappointed by Russia so far.
I think Russia really is able to put pressure on Austria. There was hope that we could start some breakaways and just that has happened. It just took a few minutes for the austrian players to get used to wc hockey and i think they are battling hard and do their best within their limitations. should continue to be an interesting game.
Marshall 04-30-2005, 11:18 AM Is it a clear broadcast or does it keep buffering?
I'm pleasantly surprised, I've been having no chopiness or buffering issues.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:22 AM Yashin with the stick against Kaspitz. :teach:
SHORTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY :yo:
stv11 04-30-2005, 11:24 AM Again a dumb turnover by Austria. Great anticipation by Kharitonov, though
john g 04-30-2005, 11:24 AM I'm pleasantly surprised, I've been having no chopiness or buffering issues.
no buffering either for me
2-1 Kahritonov SHG
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:24 AM we are killing ourselves ...
kharitonov with a shorthander after a giveaway by raimund divis.
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 11:26 AM Now that he's scored a short-handed goal (against a second-tier goalie) on the breakaway, who's going to hype Kharitonov?
actually, he's had several good offensive plays already this game.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:30 AM i really like setzingers physical play and hitting ability.
but i doubt the russians do :D
stv11 04-30-2005, 11:37 AM That was an obvious penalty. How can the ref not see it with Gusev's stick stuck in the Austrian player's pants ?
EDIT : and a bad call to compensate. IIHF referees are back...
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:37 AM the ref is horrible.
first he doesn't do anything against the russians attacking brückler, now he doesn't give an obvious hooking call.
o boy we play bad :shakehead
Berkut 04-30-2005, 11:38 AM Whats going on???
Oil_slick9416* 04-30-2005, 11:42 AM whats the score now?
stv11 04-30-2005, 11:43 AM 2-1 Russia
john g 04-30-2005, 11:43 AM still 2-1 Russia
for those watching the streaming broadcast -- do you hear what sounds like a fly buzzing?
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:43 AM I'd like to know how this game would look like if austria had vanek, brandner, pöck, koch and divis in the lineup.
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 11:47 AM I'd like to know how this game would look like if austria had vanek, brandner, pöck, koch and divis in the lineup.
they'd probably be winning.
I can't believe i'm about to say this: the Austrians are passing better than the Russians.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:48 AM Setzinger finally shows what he is capable of. He is the leader on the ice so far for austria. good skills, good skating, hitting and a goal.
I'd like to know how this game would look like if austria had vanek, brandner, pöck, koch and divis in the lineup.
yeah and fedorov, samsonov, gonchar , mogilny, zhamnov should i go on :D ;)
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 11:49 AM Austria just had a partial breakaway and good shot on goal.
It only takes a few quality chances like that to win.
Penalty to Russia.
Looks like the powerplay opportunities are evening out.
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 11:50 AM Oh my God, our team from 2000 is back, but it improved a little though!
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 11:52 AM yeah and fedorov, samsonov, gonchar , mogilny, zhamnov should i go on :D ;)
i know what you mean. obviously russia has better players. not a single austrian would make the russian team. so the loss of a few high-calibre players like vanek or brandner hurts a lot more than it hurts the russians.
but as you can see, we can play hockey with heart and fight :)
stv11 04-30-2005, 11:53 AM I'd like to know how this game would look like if austria had vanek, brandner, pöck, koch and divis in the lineup.
The game wouldn't look any different, but the score might.Maybe Divis could have saved the first goal by not going down as early as Brückler did, but I don't like "that goalie would have saved that goal" kind of guess. I don't think Austria miss Pöck and Koch that much as they look good defensively without them, but Brandner and Vanek sure could have helped as Setzinger is the only austrian the russian defense has trouble handling (But he doesn't create as much trouble for the russian defense than the russian defense themself)
but as you can see, we can play hockey with heart and fight :)
no doubt about that :handclap:
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 11:55 AM Another penalty to Russia... lucky a penalty shot wasn't awarded!
Neither of these teams will advance far based on this game.
I've been impressed by Datsyuk's chances and Austria's checking, determined, fast and physical play.
Not much else.
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 11:57 AM 2-1 Russia at the break with another flagrant foul by a Russian player (Proshkin) to prevent a good scoring chance by the Austrians. They'll be on the PP when the play resumes in the 3rd. Russia really disappoints me so far, and I don't like the way this game is going...
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 11:58 AM I don't get it ... Austria is better than Sweden, or the Russians just don't wanna play today. This is awful, there's no forechecking, physically the Russians are not there, the offense is dead.
Thank God Kharitonov scored that shorthander ... he made up for the one he missed in the 1st period.
stv11 04-30-2005, 11:59 AM I've been impressed by Datsyuk's chances and Austria's checking, determined, fast and physical play.
That pretty much sums it up. Austria played better in the second period than in the first, but Russia hits rock bottom.
Berkut 04-30-2005, 12:16 PM Did the 3rd start yet?
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:17 PM Austria controlling the play in the Russian zone??
Then the goalie having to flop down to save an Austrian shot?
Then Austria winning the offensive face-off and pass the puck around?
Russia was lucky not to give up a goal!!!
This game is close, too close.
stv11 04-30-2005, 12:17 PM There's no play without the puck by the russian forwards
Lucero 04-30-2005, 12:18 PM 5:30 played in the 3rd, still 2-1
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 12:19 PM so far i'd say, austria would deserve a draw.
stv11 04-30-2005, 12:20 PM What a blunder by Sokolov
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:20 PM I'd say the only part of the game the Russians are clearly superior in so far is the first-pass out of their zone by defensemen.
Other than that, I agree.
Austria has so far earned a draw.
Shoot! Even if they lose 2-1 or 3-1 they can hold their head up with pride.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 12:20 PM here we go 2-2
raimund divis
sokolov o je o je :shakehead :biglaugh:
john g 04-30-2005, 12:21 PM wow terrible goal
2-2
Ovechkin should have dished on the other end, which caused the turnover, but a bad bad goal
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 12:21 PM Austria deserves it!
stv11 04-30-2005, 12:22 PM so far i'd say, austria would deserve a draw.
Your wish shall by granted
n00dles 04-30-2005, 12:22 PM Gotta love the underdogs. :handclap:
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:22 PM Russia surges again and again its easily disrupted by physical defensemen.
Then Austria passes three times and a shot from the left wing, out wide, went in.
A soft goal but on an opportunity CREATED by good passing on the counterattack after another failed, lame surge by Russia.
Entirely a deserving tie.
john g 04-30-2005, 12:23 PM austria to the PP
diving I guess on Kharitonov
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 12:25 PM Inteference on Kharitonov, just trying to be a moving block for Kovalev... Sokholov's mistake might cost a lot for the Russians, they seem really shaky right now...
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:27 PM Another good scoring chance by Austria. This time on the powerplay.
Shots on net are misleading though. Austria didn't finish many chances, but they have gotten in good scoring POSITION several times in this game.
Whereas at the other end, Russian players trying to puckhog their way by themself to the net have been simply knocked down on their way.
Sad in a way. Unless you're an Austrian fan.

powerplay for russia. phillipe lakos off for holding
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:31 PM A deserving penalty against Austria.
I almost look forward to admiring the Austrian checkers at work.

i'm happy with how brückler has played so far. i think he was solid and didn't let in any soft goals what was a big factor in this game.
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:32 PM Yashin AGAIN tried to surge to the net by himself and AGAIN is effectively backchecked out of the play.
Russia: stop trying to send one guy in by himself toward the net!!
Try passing, cycling, setting up behind the net, something else.
Puck hogging' ain't workin'
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:34 PM If this game ends in a tie I'd better not hear anybody try to claim that Austria was "lucky".
The goalie only had to be average good, because ALL the skaters effectively were checking.
Captain Leaf 04-30-2005, 12:34 PM Go Austria
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 12:35 PM wow. setzinger is austrias datsyuk :D
i cant see it anymore :shakehead
stv11 04-30-2005, 12:37 PM wow. setzinger is austrias datsyuk :D
Yeah, that was a fantastic play. Coud have been one of the greatest moment ever in austrian hockey
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:37 PM Setzinger just won me over! :amazed:
"maybe the most spectacular action in the game so far" said the play by play guy.
I agree.
Coast to coast, great skill showed.
But the story of this game is the ability of all Austrian players to skate and pass and check and be physical.
And the Russians lack of a "team spirit"
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 12:38 PM oh my god
this one is brücklers goal :(
john g 04-30-2005, 12:38 PM AK makes it 3-2
stv11 04-30-2005, 12:38 PM Austria didn't deserved that, and the russians know it. Notice how Kovalev didn't celebrate much
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:39 PM Kovalev on a doorstep shot.
Hey. Guess what. Someone passed the pick to him.
That's different.

john g 04-30-2005, 12:41 PM Just realized with this broadcast there is no color commentary -- and I must say I dont mind missing the mindless comments must color-men provide.
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:43 PM If I was Austrian I'd be celebrating all night long!
Not by having lost by a goal, or by having scored two to end it 2-3 (assuming no more scoring)
but because Austria has played so well against the Russians.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 12:44 PM brückler out of the net
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 12:45 PM kovalchuk. 4-2
what a cheap victory for russia.
congratulations anyways.
ok over ........... i think we will see a complete different team on monday :teach:
stv11 04-30-2005, 12:46 PM but because Austria has played so well against the Russians.
Austria did well, but Russia's poor play has more to do with the outcome of the game
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:46 PM The empty net goal by the LEAST deserving player IMO.... Ilya
There should be no name on empty netters. Especially like that.
If there were 15 game stars handed out, Kovalchuk wouldn't get any of them (prior to the empty netter)
FrenchKheldar 04-30-2005, 12:47 PM Painful victory to watch for RUssia, congrats to the Austrians for their hardwork, hopefully they'll make it to the second round...

I agree.
This game could have ended 2-2 or 7-2 for the Russians, and still the Austrians have reason to be proud. They did many things right in this game and showed a lot of skill, heart and team play.
stv11 04-30-2005, 12:49 PM Kharitonov and Brückler as players of the game ???
Datsyuk and Setzinger were no brainers !!!
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 12:51 PM Kharitonov and Brückler as players of the game ???
Datsyuk and Setzinger were no brainers !!!
The latter two had INDIVIDUAL highlight plays.
The first two did many little things right and controlled the tempo.
Good call.
But all four were deserving, IMO.
(NOT Kovalchuk or Ovechkin, despite the goal stats on the board)
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 12:54 PM Kharitonov and Brückler as players of the game ???

agreed. setzinger has taken a leading role for austria. brückler was solid in net, but setzinger would have deserved it over him.
Berkut 04-30-2005, 12:59 PM Anyone has the goals?

Well, every single russian player has nothing but individual play to show, so I pick Datsyuk because he was one of the few whose individual highlight plays actually created something. Concerning Austria, they played a great team game and every single player did those many little thing you talk about, including Setzinger. The individual play just put him above his teammates.
Couldn't agree more regarding Kovalchuk and Ovechkin
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 01:04 PM That game was crap! The Russians looked awful out there! Or maybe they're really playing like Dynamo against Spartak?
Setzinger made a fantastic play in the 3rd!!!
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 01:04 PM Anyone has the goals?
Believe me. the goals are not the story of the game.
Dozens of russian falls to the ice after failed individualistic surges toward the net: now that would be a reflective and neat looking highlight package!
Berkut 04-30-2005, 01:16 PM I dont give a ****, a victory is a victory, and I want to see the goals.

wow you are really a angry ....very angry guy
Markus078 04-30-2005, 01:16 PM congrats to austria. they where really good today. i would say that the missing koch, pöck, vanek, bandner and divis really hurts.
i really liked the welser-koch-vanek and trattnig-setzinger-kalt lines. add brandner to this and we could have two offensivly nice lines. brückler did a great job i think divis is not much better when you consider his play in the league. overall we have something russia will never have it's just called heart. they really have tremendous talent but they will not win something with their way of playing hockey.
overall what i love to see is that austria is maturing and producing some talent. i look forward to monday and hope we beat belarus. so have a nice day folks.
greetings form austria
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 01:18 PM congrats to austria. they where really good today. i would say that the missing (...) divis really hurts.
didn't he score a goal?
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 01:21 PM CSKA, the only guy who has posted anger was you earlier (telling me to get lost!).
I want Russia to do well and am not impressed with the style of play. But I am far from upset. I'm a Canadian working on a South Korean island. I just love the game, regardless of the teams. I started out watching the Canada-Latvia game but when I checked into the Russian game I became impressed by the Austrians and was intrigued to see more.
You, as a Russian fan, and maybe Russian yourself, have all the reason to be concerned. That style of play will not win the tourney.
No glory in the win tonight.
Lessons to be learned.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 01:22 PM didn't he score a goal?
raimund divis the forward scored a goal (and had a giveaway that led to kharitonovs goal)
reinhard divis the goalie from st louis blues is injured and didn't play.
btw, they are brothers, there's even a third divis, roland who is a defenseman in the second tier austrian league.

Sotnos 04-30-2005, 01:28 PM Once again, all posts need to be in English. Anything in another language is going to get deleted, and if it keeps up warnings will be handed out.
MrRuin 04-30-2005, 01:28 PM Brückler deserved the award for best austrian player, he held the team in the game in the first period singlehandedly with 18 saves. Not sure why you are saying the thrid goal was his seeing that the russian player got to shoot from 3 meters in front of him...
He played an awesome game as did Setzinger. But like so often the austrian team collapses in the last few minutes of a game against a big nation.
Markus078 04-30-2005, 01:29 PM ovechkin and kovalchuk played really poor in my opinion. if ovechkin didn't missed the first shot he wouldn't have scored the goal. if there would be just this game i would say they are average players at their best. overall time will tell if austria played that strong (which i would say) or russia was that weak. my pediction is that the slovaks will win this group ahead of russia and hopefully austria.
VanIslander 04-30-2005, 01:29 PM Divis, Setzinger
Ovechkin, Kharitonov, Kovalev, Kovalchuk
Honourable mention to Malkin on a great pass to puck-bobbling Ovechkin.
And Ilya's was an empty netter.

I agree totally.
And I have no grudge against them. It's just how the game went.

i totally agree to this. brückler was really good out there and he saved a few big chances. i think with divis in goal we wouldn't be better. that austria collapses in the the last minute is just the fact that they have to work more than the big nations to stay in the game. our skating is just one class weaker. there are just setzinger, kalt, trattnig, kaspitz and welser who have the same class as the russians. koch, vanek and pöck also have but they are injured or in the playoffs.

Brückler did a great job, but i think a goal through the legs, when he even seemed to save it already, you have to give to the goalie. given, unterluggauers failed clearing attempt was the cause of this goal.
I'm completely happy with Brücklers play but I think Setzinger has stepped up this time and has shown what he can do. He is a really dangerous offensive player, finishes his checks and works hard defensively. His performance today was world class and that's why I think he deserved the award over Brückler.

A great stick save by Brückler on a breakaway in the first...
The puck went into the goal in between the pipe and his pad and was scored on a shot a few meters away from him. You either make a tremendous save or you dont, but you can in my opinion never blame the goalie for a goal like this.

However, he played a very good game, I don't care who's fault it was :)

wilka91* 04-30-2005, 02:06 PM I've just read Vladimir Krikunov's comments at the post game press conference, and among other things he criticized the tournament's organizers for the new arena, saying that the ice was really bad and that it was very hot inside the building.
Personnally I don't know if it was hot, but I did have the impression that the ice was bad seeing those Russian rockets like Afinogenov skate slower than my grandpa!
But it's understandable : new arena, new ice ... I'm sure some adjustements will be made.

It's old arend and earlier (2 days ago) Switzerland - Austria exhibition game was stopped cause ice was very bad. I agree that it's better to destroy on poor ice, but ice is the same for both teams and if you want to win you have to be good in every area of the game in every condiotions.
MrRuin 04-30-2005, 02:10 PM actually there have been big problems with the ice last week. Austria's test game against Switzerland on thursday had to be cut short after two periods of play since the ice broke due to faulty boards and warm temperatures. Yesterday the germans had to cancel their training because the ice wasnt ready.
The arena is no hockey arena, its a convention center that never sees ice hockey except for events like this. Its really warm inside because it is no hockey arena and thus has no sort of isolation against warm weather.
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 02:12 PM the game austria - switzerland was stopped after two periods because of the bad ice. hopefully they are able to improve the ice for the upcoming games...

really? I didn't know any of it
they better do something because SPEED is Russia's major strength!!!
SmokeyClause 04-30-2005, 02:56 PM So Setzinger looked good? He showed incredible talent in the rookie camp he attended a year or two ago for the Preds. He's really picked up his game in the last year and a half. Can someone describe his great play(s) in the game and give a brief description of what his game is like (most Preds fans have never seen him in a real game).
wilka91* 04-30-2005, 03:01 PM he took the puck in the defensive zone, went coast to coast, undressed 2 Russians D's and almost beat Sokolov who made a really good save
highlight reel play!
Fan.At 04-30-2005, 03:08 PM that was a big-time play. would have given austria the 3-2 lead :(
what i like most about setzinger is his gritty and hard-working style. he is responsible defensively, has break-away speed and is pretty skilled to. he also finishes his checks and plays in every game situation for austria.
I'd say his game is a good fit for an nhl third line winger.
Slick Nick 04-30-2005, 04:40 PM Kovalev got two quality shots away from inside the left faceoff circle, and the second one, set up by Andrei Markov from behind the goal line, squeezed past Austrian goaltender Bernd Bruckler.

ALF AmericanLionsFan 04-30-2005, 05:36 PM Congrats to Austria. Played very tough. :handclap:
