swisdan 04-30-2005, 05:39 AM What is your top 5 goaltender for this competition?
And the goalie you like the most....
It's my choice:
1. Brodeur
2. Luongo
3. Vokoun
4. Lundqvist
5. Conklyn
but my preferred is Martin Gerber (the sixth?)
It's a very hard choice, a lot of awesome goaltenders will play in Austria

Nah but I think he has a place somewhere below Luongo. He has to play better than his best to be the champion I think!

I have no problem with that ranking...this season really proved to me that the NHL status does not make one holy.

no way vokoun is better than luongo...dunno if you rate it that way because it's a tourney and luongo might not see as much icetime, but he's definatly a better goalie than Vokoun IMO
I think FlyLine's post looks pretty good...bout how i'd put it.
I've just never been terribly impressed by Vokoun...he's good definatly, but i don't think he's on that "other level" and I think Lundqvist has, for one, been playing at that "other level" lately at least, and has a good chance to stay at that "other level". I've liked how he looks compared to Vokoun
psycho_dad 04-30-2005, 07:48 PM Vokoun gets underrated because he absolutely sucked balls this season. He was a total sieve in IFK and he blew donkey dick against finland in the practice game...
Vokoun has had a horrible year, he will NOT take the Czechs to finals...they have to switch to Hnilicka......sooner or later.

VanIslander 05-01-2005, 09:24 AM You whould rather have Menzin than Brodeur/Luongo?
We're not talking about drafting for a franchise.
We're talking about the HOT goalie after day one.
Many average goalies have super hot streaks. And there's no 'n'. It's Mezin, which was clearly visible on the back of his jersey as he flopped to make great save after great save.
It'll probably take two more games to get an impression of which goaltender is performing the best in the tourney.

Well, I didn't actually put them in order. I guess when I put Brodeur first it looks like I have.
Last season Turco won 37 games, and Vokoun won 34. I can't find Lundqvists totals from his last NHL season. What are they?

How can you affirm that? Lundqvist had played a grand smashing total of 0 game in the NHL. Turco and Vokoun are #1 goalies and Lundqvist is nothing more than an excellent prospect so far.

Lundqvist even being on that list says something considering he hasn't played a game in the NHL (regardless of his ridiculous stats in the Swedish league).
Noteworthy: Rick Dipeitro but he just can't seem to settle down. Mezin of Belarus (missed his game) he's been an absolute wall for a long time in Belarus...he does everything he can. Ty Conklin, although he's got less skill than Rick, he's more consistent and reliable (all puckhandlling debacles aside).

People in Canada have only seen the Latvia game. Many of them - and others who look through rose-colored glasses - make their assessments on past play, reputations, hype, etc rather than based on observations during the tourney.
Those of us who have seen every second of the tourney so far, live and on demand, couldn't possibily put a Canadian or Swiss goalie as among the tourney's best - not without faith in a turnaround.

If he's the starter he should be able to play one game against their toughest opponent. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just can't believe he's so out of shape that he needs a rest before the first game even gets played.

They want him to get some practice first. I don't quite know what it was all about. Maybe he hasn't played during the lockout?

Alter Haudegen 05-06-2005, 07:13 AM He's not even the starter.
Of course he is. :teach:
Latvia for some reason always starts their backup or even their third goalie in the games against the top teams in the Preliminary and Qualification round. In games where they think they can't win. Seems like they are concentrating on the ones against their direct opponents (and looking at their results it works for them).
Last year in Prague their third goalie played the opening game against the Czech and their backup the one against Canada in the Qualification round. Irbe played the other 5 games, including the Quarter-Final against Sweden.
Marcus-74 05-06-2005, 07:28 AM Well, the Sokolov-joke was in my mind also but ok, let´s try to be serious for a second; lundqvist looks pretty good at the moment.
