The 25-man Czech team has two key forwards injured - Patrik Elias of the New Jersey Devils...I copied that off yahoo.com. What's wrong with him now?

He has Hepatitis something, im really not sure of the details though.

Actually just found this: Tainted seafood is the suspect in Patrik Elias' case of Hepatitis-A that will keep the Devils' five-time leading scorer out of this month's World Championships in Austria...He had planned to play in the World Championships before eating shellfish at the Moscow airport.

Elias still in struggle against Hepatitis A

In a scary episode that has seen the 6-foot-1 New Jersey Devils left winger drop 32 pounds from his playing weight to 165 pounds, the 29-year-old was diagnosed with the disease in early March and was in hospital for a month.

"He is slowly making his recovery," Todd Diamond, his New York-based agent, said yesterday. "This is a disease that can take three to six months to recover from, so it's going to take some time to bounce back from. He won't be himself for a while."

I don't this he is playing right now because of this quote

"Right now, he can go for a long walk, but that knocks him out for the rest of the day."

Just in case it isnt explicit enough how he got Hep-A, This is the reason why they have those signs in restaurant bathrooms telling employees to wash their hands.

If hockey does start in September,do you think that he'll be ready?

If hockey does start in September,do you think that he'll be ready?I'd say, "NO," but neither am I a doctor nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. He lost a ton of weight (not literally 2000 pounds, but you get the point). I'd be pretty shocked if he was back for camp. I'd say November would be a better bet.

From Forecaster

Czech left wing Patrik Elias is currently battling hepatitis A. The liver disease, which caused the slick winger to lose 32 pounds in one month's time, could force Elias to the sidelines if the 2005-06 NHL campaign starts on time next October. The infection caused Elias to miss the current World hockey championships, where he would have been one of the Czech Republic's top players.

Get well P E!!

Here is an update from TSN. The article is somewhat scary. Let's hope Elias gets out of this situation safely.

Sucks for Elias that he wouldn't have gotten sick had their been no lockout as obviously he wouldn't be eating seafood in Russia.

Good luck and a speedy recovery Patrick.

my mom had H. A. Its a crappy disease but she got over it and Patty E will as well, he should concentrate more on his health though for now.

Did she still have a lot of jump in her legs? What about hand-eye? Was she able to receive the pass with soft hands, or did she use her stick like a pitch-fork? ;)

Indicates that Patrick was extremely sick, but lucky not to have had hepatitis B or C. Elias is currently just taking walks and is then exhausted for the rest of the day.

Quote by Patrick: "I'm not going to rush anything. Im going to take it easy. The worst thing would be overdoing it. I could damage my liver for life. Hockey's not on my mind at all." The article also goes on to say that if the season open's on time, Elias will not be ready. I hope the guy the best, but not very encouraging.
