about that ;) I am looking forward to see Kimmo Timonen or Niko Kapanen completly trashing either Höglund or Axelsson (Timonen wants to give another present to PJ, I think ;)) but this time without sweden scoring five straight goals after it ;)

Yeah yeah, we'll see ;)
Rabid Ranger 04-25-2005, 10:28 AM At first glance Sweden's roster doesn't seem very imposing, but that might be because I'm not familiar with many of the players (non-NHLers). In particular, the defense looks weak.
FLYLine24 04-25-2005, 01:29 PM I think this pretty much CONFIRMS the finals will be between the 2 FAVORITES to win it all, Sweden vs the U.S. :sarcasm: ;)
swisdan 04-25-2005, 01:37 PM I'm happy to see Thomas Rhodin with this team. This guy has done a great season with Fribourg in Switzerland.
Just one word with Lundquist, it's a awesome goaltender!
SChan* 04-25-2005, 03:24 PM hagos was cut :( ffs!
wilka91* 04-25-2005, 03:53 PM Mark my words : Sweden is the number 1 favorite to win it all!!!

That has definately been a major concern, but we all hope that Kronwall and Bäckman will have their big break-out in this championships.

Has not Bäckman already had his international breakthrough? He was excellent last year, which was the reason he made the World Cup team.
Riddarn 04-25-2005, 04:17 PM I hope BÅG splits the Rhodin-Jönsson defensive pair. I don't like that pair at all..

I hope he breaks their neck

He was/is still very anonymous to people who doesn´t follow hockey as closely as we do. He´ll be a household name after this tournament though - hopefully.

Backman? You mean Beckham right? :dunce:
Habsfan 32 04-25-2005, 09:47 PM I hope Lundqvist is ready to see alot of shots because their defense looks a bit weak but still a good team.

When was the last time Sweden had a decent defense? never...

On paper it is stellar...but that and on-ice are totally different.
Norstrom, Lidstrom, Johnsson, Ohlund, etc...

hehe, Norström is probably the only good defensive-defenseman we've had. I've always thought guys like Lidström and Ohlund have played bad in Swedish shirt.

you gotta be kidding. Russia just beat us twice.
TORRUS 04-26-2005, 09:03 AM you gotta be kidding. Russia just beat us twice.
 don't be fooled!
... that was just part of the Swedish plan! They will strike when you don't expect them to!

Öhlund and Lidström haven't quite been stellar on the team, but never really bad.
I'd like to say that Ragnarsson when on Tre Kronor has been close to exceptional defensively.

At times Bäckman has reminded me alot of Sami Salo ^^
Kaizer 04-26-2005, 09:08 AM Öhlund and Lidström haven't quite been stellar on the team, but never really bad.
Lidstrom was. Last year WC final. But it was only one time he was bad that I remember for a long time.
I don't agree at all that Sweden haven't played well defensivly the last couple of years, atleast not in the WCH. IMO it couldn't be more wrong. Look at Tre Kronors GAA the last 4-5 years. We are clearly the best of the bunch. If anything we have been better on the ice then on "papper". Tjärnqvist, Hävelid, Norström and Tärnström among many others have always been able to get the job done.
However this year it could be another story. Sundin is awfully slow, Jönsson haven't impressed combined with that the two of them are paired with Rhodin and Johansson who have their positive sides but needs "backup".
BÅG should experiment with playing all four of our defensive D's and leaving one of Rhodin or Johansson out of the line up. This would mean less icetime for Norström and either Bäckman or Kronwall would be double shifted with Lindström. But atleast we wouldn't have Rhodin or Johansson on the ice, in facto, every other shift. There are always ways to give more ice to Norström, like doubleshifting him on the PK.
Another alternative is gooing with 3 pairings and making Jönsson a "offensive" D. Norström-Bäckman, Sundin-Jönsson, Lindström-Kronwall.
Its not that I am a big fan of Lindström but the D crop we had against Russia won't take us anywhere. Not a chance. I am not 100% cofident that BÅG will be able to solve this... Could be his first big misstake. :shakehead
Lidstrom was. Last year WC final. But it was only one time he was bad that I remember for a long time.
Lidström's game is 75% positioning. For him to go from the NHL to a international icesurface is like Brett Hull shifting from shooting from the right to the left overnight... (almost :) )

Yeah, but that doesn't change the fact that he played bad.
leafs nation 04-26-2005, 11:31 AM Lundqvist will start? Alfredsson captain? :dunno:

Lundqvist will start. Jörgen Jönsson C, Zetterberg and Norström A
komisakick ass 04-26-2005, 12:37 PM No Modin on this team????
Riddarn 04-26-2005, 01:11 PM No Modin on this team????
No. Like about 90% of the other players from the World Cup team he has declined to play, due to injuries I believe.
Wisent 04-28-2005, 04:46 AM Any ideas on how the lines will look like? Will Paahlsson Alfredsson and Axelsson play together? That line was nice for Froelunda.
Vikke 04-28-2005, 05:26 AM Any ideas on how the lines will look like? Will Paahlsson Alfredsson and Axelsson play together? That line was nice for Froelunda.
Yeah, they will.
Hedström-Zetterberg-Weinhandl will play together, too, I think.
Nordström-Jönsson-Höglund.
Art Vandelay 04-28-2005, 05:36 AM Any ideas on how the lines will look like? Will Paahlsson Alfredsson and Axelsson play together? That line was nice for Froelunda. My guess:
Axelsson - Påhlsson - Alfredsson
Hedström - Zetterberg - Weinhandl
Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson
Nordström - Jönsson - Kahnberg/Höglund <- hopefully Kahnberg IMO
wassup77 04-28-2005, 07:01 AM My guess:
Axelsson - Påhlsson - Alfredsson
Hedström - Zetterberg - Weinhandl
Sedin - Sedin - Samuelsson

Thats exactly what I think too. Except that I don't think Höglund has a chance to make the team.
wassup77 04-28-2005, 02:11 PM Btw, Look at how good two-way-forwards we have!!!
maybe Sweden can win with this team afterall?
Riddarn 04-28-2005, 02:14 PM Except that I don't think Höglund has a chance to make the team.
I agree, but unfortunatly, BÅG may disagree.
12# Peter Bondra 04-28-2005, 02:51 PM Zetterberg was very good yesterday. He surely is a big part of your team.
BTW, Chara had 4 penalties yesterday. 3 were cause of Swedes taunting him, and 1 for diving :biglaugh: (but IMO, he didnt dive after a Hoglund holding penalty).
