FLYLine24 04-22-2005, 01:54 PM Updates?
SChan* 04-22-2005, 01:57 PM Lundqvist has started phenominal. Has saved several chances against Russia. Russia is dominating.
zetterberg has a cold.

still 0-0 then?
SChan* 04-22-2005, 02:12 PM :yo:
still 0-0 then?
yes first period just ended. it's 0-0.
Levitate 04-22-2005, 02:15 PM thanks, is there a webpage that updates the stats as the game goes along?
wilka91* 04-22-2005, 02:17 PM it's fair to say that the Russians dominated the 1st period although the Swedes had a couple of chances ... but the Russian's can't really score goals on huge scoring chances.

The video of first goal (already made by Slay) also in this thread.
wilka91* 04-22-2005, 03:05 PM what a stupid play by Afinogenov ... to make a such bad pass in a such dangerous position ... it led directly to the goal!
After the first 5 minutes of the period I thought Russia would easily win this game because the Swedes must have touched the puck like ... once, on Hedin's breakaway! But after Hedin's goal, the game evened up, with Sweden (Sedin's line) getting huge scoring opportunities, with some nice combinations behind Sokolov's net. Russia also had a chance to score in the open net towards the end of the period, but well, when you can't score, you just can't!
Vikke 04-22-2005, 03:11 PM There's no Hedin on Sweden's team. Two Sedins, though. :)

Hedin = Henrik Sedin :snide:
Sweden_rule 04-22-2005, 03:45 PM Dude, this game totaly belonges to Sweden. Sad the score doesn't agree!!
Levitate 04-22-2005, 03:49 PM how did lundqvist look overall?
wilka91* 04-22-2005, 03:52 PM well deserved win for Russia ... even if we should have scored one more at the end, especially on that stupid 2 on 1. And Yashin who can't capitalize on a fantastic passing play by Kharitonov and Kozlov.
I was really impressed by the Sedin line in the second period.
I'm happy with the result anyway, let's not forget the game was played in Stockholm.
Riddarn 04-22-2005, 03:53 PM Decent game. Both team lacks decent defensive disciplin and the swedes are inept scorers. Sokolov played suprisingly well.
Oh and Jonas Höglund sucks.
Sweden_rule 04-22-2005, 04:13 PM you should tell us who you are ... maybe cyclops, or stockwizard? one thing is for sure, this post is a troll, and I'll ask a mod to check your IP because you are a Canadian
Yeah, sure.... I'm living in mölndal in Sweden and I've never been to Canada. I have though been to Us, if that makes me a Canadian. However, I still think Sweden was deserved to win this game. They played better!
Sorry to offend you

Wilka has some beefs with certain canadans or north americans in general around here, I suspect he's getting a bit paranoid. ;)
I think this was a game that could have gone either way, it was pretty even. The number of good scoring chances must have been pretty much the same for both teams. In the end, the deeper russian talent pool weighed it over to their favour.
Vikke 04-22-2005, 04:45 PM Ovechkin's speed, balance and strength at the 2-1 goal was awesome!
Riddarn 04-22-2005, 04:55 PM Ovechkin's speed, balance and strength at the 2-1 goal was awesome!
Which cannot be said for the pylon masking as a swedish defender. Who was it? Frögren?
BlindWillyMcHurt 04-22-2005, 05:00 PM Covering Ovechkin? Magnus Johansson and Ronnie Sundin. Johan Franzen was covering Malkin.
Levitate 04-22-2005, 05:00 PM cmon now, any comments on lundqvist's play? ;)

He looked good in my opinion. I would even add that he played better than his counterpart, Sokolov, who looked not very confident out there.
Riddarn 04-22-2005, 05:14 PM Sokolov, who looked not very confident out there.
I agree, Sokolov looked a bit shaky, but isn't that his style also? He did do some pretty good saves when he had to, and that's what counts.

Actually I haven't seen him play much ... only at last year's World Cup, and a handful of games with Omsk (since Maracle took over as the starter). He did make some good saves, but what a shaky performance!!!

Chimaera 04-22-2005, 11:07 PM How'd Ovechkin and Semin play?
Robertsson 4-ever 04-23-2005, 03:18 AM cmon now, any comments on lundqvist's play? ;)
He couldn't do anything on Malkin's goal. Malkin didn't hit the puck clean nad it was a strange shot. The first goal, however, maybe Lundqvist should have saved. Kovalchuk came a little to clos to goal when Frögren didn't came out on him, and he realesed a low shot that went in. But overall Lundqvist played really well, and saved Sweden at times. And remember, he'll be even better, he has just practised once since the SEL finals according to Aftonbladet.
Vikke 04-23-2005, 04:15 AM How'd Ovechkin and Semin play?
Semin had a few good scoring chances, but wasn't involved in much but that.
Ovechkin looked good, he challenged the Swedish defence several times.

Hopefully he's [Semin] finally over that injury that had been hampering him a bit late in the RSL season from what I can gather.
