jr77812 04-15-2005, 09:05 AM This pretty much spells it out:

"I've got a lot of memories here, obviously. I've been here for seven years and the fans have been good to me. There are real nice people up here," Whitfield said.
"It will be sad to see our team move but that's the nature of the game. We'll go to Hershey, or wherever we go, and start over."
HockeyCritter 04-15-2005, 09:52 AM Thanks for the link JR - - - writing certainly seems to be wall.
jr77812 04-15-2005, 09:57 AM It seems almost certain up here that it will be Anaheim (thanks...sk8) . I suspect that Pirates organization will make an announcement as soon as Monday.
sk84fun_dc 04-15-2005, 10:03 AM JR, you might want to change that Cincy comment to Anaheim. Same issue as people saying the "Pirates" are moving unless you believe Cincy will no longer have an AHL franchise.
jr77812 04-15-2005, 10:26 AM Your wish is my command. I actually think I was nitpicking on that very point in the other thread. LOL at my negligence.

No one gives a s#!t about technicalities. :teach:
sk84fun_dc 04-15-2005, 10:28 AM Thanks :)
not a biggie to me, I understand the issue, but people have been nitpicky so I thought I would save the headache
Atlas 04-15-2005, 11:04 AM You Portland fans have been great. I hope you'll stick around.
While I would have been happy to see the Caps stay with Portland there is a lot to be said for Hershey. It's close to DC. The building is brand new. And chocolate. Lots of chocolate.
usiel 04-15-2005, 04:17 PM Harrisburg is only 2 hours away from the DC area so the thought of being able to go up and check out a game or two during the season is really appealing.
JR, you'll have to stay around though. You are one of the handful of posers that I enjoy reading...

hershey is about 2h 30m from DC on a good day without traffic...just have to watch the maryland drivers once you get across into PA, they unable to grasp the concept that on a two lane highway in PAmif you're going the speed limit at a constant 55 or 65 depending on the area, you have to move into the right lane and let us PA drivers pass...seriously everyday i get stuck behind a maryland person in the left land they refuse to get over, even when I go into the right land and pass them, they dont get the hint of being in the wrong lane...you either pass or speed using the left, not hold everyone else up trying to get past you....sorry just a lot of pent up rage about that situation
Hershey is always a great place to watch hockey, 9 times out of 10 the fans are more into it then caps' fan in DC...sorry to all the portland fans but I have my fingers crossed the caps' farm system end up here in hershey
jr77812 04-16-2005, 10:04 AM I pretty much agree with the awards:
http://www.portlandpirates.com/gamesummary.asp?Id=434
Allied Home Mortgage Three Star Award (Player with the most cumulative points from being named the number one star of the game)— Jakub Klepis
Pirates American Specialty/AHL Man of the Year (Community service) — Nolan Yonkman
Most Popular Player (Team’s most popular player)— Louis Robitaille
Unsung Hero (A player that works tirelessly and received little recognition at the beginning of the season) — Boyd Gordon
Players’ Player (Represents the teams character and values) — Trent Whitfield
Jack Button Award (It is given each year to honor the Washington Capitals’ top prospect. It is named in honor of the late Jack Button, the Capitals’ director of player personnel) – Boyd Gordon
Tom Ebright Award (It is given to the player who best exemplifies what it means to be a Portland Pirate, as envisioned by team founder, the late Tom Ebright. He is a dedicated athlete who plays for the love of the game) — Nolan Yonkman
Most Valuable Player (Judged to be the player who has contributed most to the success of the team through sterling offense, stingy defense or sharp goaltending) — Trent Whitfield

I think that Daubenspeck should've gotten Unsung Heroe...Boyd Gordon is not unsung at all, everyone is aware of his capabilities and his performance this year was by no means a surprise. Daubenspeck, however, saved the team from just taking a nose dive, AND most importantly, nobody expected that from him.

sounds like the organization takes very good care of it's prospects

I deffinitely want to see at least one game in Hershey! It will be so hard getting used to a new team and new players here in Portland, but I will never forget the players from the previous seasons. Please, caps fans, keep us here in Maine informed about the 'Hershey Bears' (I really don't like saying that). Hopefully they will really succeed in PA! We will miss them... so much! I'm sure you will see a lot of pirates jerseys in the crowd throughout the season ;)

True...I was surprised at that one. All the others were fairly right on. I was a little sadden not to see Jiffy Fortin get the Players Player award though :sarcasm: . We both know how much he was loved for his on ice coaching.
Wheel wheel wheel... :propeller

had to drive up to train a client last year and it only took 2 hours...though admittedly my vr6 was going mostly about 75 :D.
