PhiveWhole 09-24-2003, 08:44 AM What do you y'alls think of this, contingent upon Abby underperforming this year??
Colorado offers Hejduk and Skoula
Florida offers Luongo and Hagman
Seems reasonable, assuming Liles seems on pace to replace Skoula on the team. The kicker is that you are trading tried and true talent in Milan. But, like we learned in the Morris trade, you need to give up talent to get talent. Luongo, based on sheer potential alone, is worth Hejduk, IMO.
The economics of the trade are what concern me the most. Next season (or the year after, if a lock out goes into effect), the Avs could be way over whatever a proposed cap would be. If there is no "grandfathering" of teams into an agreement, the Avs will be forced to chop off some depth. Hejduk is in line for a raise to about 5-6 mil a year, based on his performance. Depending on whether the Avs are able to keep Foppa, Selanne, and Kariya, as well as Blake and Sakic contracts, the Avs are sure to be over whatever cap limit is imposed. This trade would spread the depth around, as well as save some cash.

it's been talked about that CURRENT contracts(ones that will be around during a cap IF there is one)will NOT count against the cap. but i don't see this getting resolved any time soon. players like hejduk who EARN their raises aren't going to be able to get them thanks to a cap and owners don't want to spend money. there is a simple solution. GET AN OWNER WILLING TO SPEND.
Belgian Fan 09-24-2003, 09:35 AM While Luongo will be a great goaltender for years to come, he isn't what the Avs need right now. Because as of now this moment, Roberto Luongo has exactly as much (in fact less, if we take minutes into account) playoff experience as David Aebisher being: 0 starts.
So regardless of money, value and positions, I don't think this is the type of deal PL will be looking to make.

Not even close to worth it for the Avalanche. Hejduk is a very rare type of scorer. Good goaltenders are much easier to find than 50 goal guys.

i wouldn't say that...find me a goalie who can win 35-40 games a year for 8 or 9 years straight. it's MUCH easier to find a kid who can score 50 goals than a good starting caliber goalie.

Though experience has nothing to do with talent, talent wise, their not even in the same league, on a team like the Avalanche, Luongo would dominate the NHL....but I wouldn't trade Hejduk for Luongo, but I'd do Tanguay, Skoula, Aebischer for Luongo and Huselius....but that will probably be far fetched for most Florida fans....
RoyIsALegend* 09-24-2003, 11:19 AM Milan Hejduk, Martin Skoula and a 2nd for Roberto Luongo and Kristian Huselius.
I've always said there's only two goalies I'd trade Hejduk for:
Luongo... and Martin Brodeur.
Bender 09-24-2003, 02:00 PM I don't see how a deal like this makes all that much sense for Florida.

Aebby underperforming this year is less consequential to not having Forsberg, Selanne, Kariya AND HEJDUK next year if we make that deal. We'd have Tanguay and Sakic left over to rebuild with Johansson, Svatos and the rookies we dug up in this year's draft.
Just not happening. Hejduk is our boy.

Good counter. We need something coming back, and hagman isn't going to cut it ;/ I'd drop the 2nd to a 3rd.

I'd still rather add Aebischer and Tanguay instead of Hejduk....

That's the thing many seem to be forgetting. If Aeby plays a reasonable first half of the season, his trade value, as a young, cheap goalie will be a little bit higher than it is right now. Wich would be very helpfull if the Avs would (should?) want to acquire a veteran at the new year or even the deadline...

The other thing is that Florida is going to hang on to Loungo like nobody's business. I really doubt they trade him, although value wise, the Hejduk deal isn't bad...
