Michal Barinka?

Could anybody give me an update on how Michal Barinka is doing in camp. Does he have a shot at making the Hawks this year?

Not a lot of buzz around his performance this year. He's going to play tonight against Dallas and that probably determines where he'll be playing. Odds are not good it will be with the hawks. Smith has said if he plays well enough, he'll go to the AHL. If not he was taken by Cape Breton in the import draft last year. He could also end up with them. I'd bank on the Admirals though.

Since he was taken by C.B. 2 years ago ( before the Hawks drafted him)in the import draft I was under the under standing he couldn't go to the AHL.

There was some debate on this a while ago on another hawk board. I don't remember exactly what the rule states. I do believe it was something to the effect that since he never reported to them he's not considered their player. The hawks drafted him from his Czech team. Also since he's a Euro the rule about having to be 20 does not apply to him.

He was assigned to Norfolk the other day. He didnt quite look in place during training camp, and i think a year of AHL hockey will be good for him.
Damn, the Ads are loaded defensively...

No kidding. They are getting a brand new top three. What team wouldn't want that in addition to whoever they had there before? Barinka Gusev and one of either Babchuk or Kukkonen. I doubt the hawks make room for both of them.

Thats not true. Since he was drafted out of Europe, he can play AHL. Being picked in the CHL Import draft has nothing to do with it.
