DevilFisch 03-25-2005, 11:48 PM Ooooh, Albany eventually lost 5-3, though. Lock Monsters tied it in the 2nd and the third had crazy scoring. More by Lowell, obviously.
Period 1
Albany - Aleksander Suglobov (unassisted) 19:25
Period 2
Lowell - Chuck Kobasew (powerplay) (Mike Commodore, Dustin Johner) 14:16
Period 3
Lowell - Colin Forbes (Eric Staal, Chuck Kobasew) 0:38
Lowell - Mike Zigomanis (Chad Larose) 1:12
Albany - Aleksander Suglobov (Ahren Nittel, Zach Parise) 11:36
Lowell - Colin Forbes (powerplay) (Chuck Kobasew, Dustin Johner) 13:42
Albany - Dean McAmmond (powerplay) (Zach Parise, Ahren Nittel) 16:02
Lowell - Dustin Johner (Lynn Loyns) 17:48
Blackjack 03-26-2005, 12:12 AM I can't wait to see Suglobov in the NHL.
David Puddy 03-26-2005, 04:16 AM The Rats were officially eliminated from playoff contention with this loss. According to an the Times Union article on Glove, "Gionta Glad He's Back with Rats (http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=345084&category=RIVERRATS&BCCode=&newsdate=3/25/2005)," which was originally linked by ratsgirl, Albany needed to win every game and still needed help to make it to the post-season.
From the 'Ice Chips' section of the above linked article,
They have to win all their 13 remaining games and Wilkes-Barre must lose its remaining 14 games in regulation, then Hershey and Bridgeport need to lose most of theirs.
ratsgirl 03-26-2005, 11:27 AM Yep, no playoffs this year either. I haven't gone back through more than about 25 years of AHL history, but I think they're the first team to miss the playoffs for 5 straight seasons. Maybe they can base the next NHL draft on the AHL standings.

Some comments about the official elimination from the playoff race:
"That's news to me," said 20-year-old Rats rookie Zach Parise, who has made a career of playing in tournaments and in the postseason at every level of hockey. "I thought we were already out as of last game. It's unfortunate. You always want to play in the postseason. It's too bad we didn't have that opportunity this year."
"We didn't do what we wanted to do," said Rats coach Robbie Ftorek, who 10 years ago was leading Albany to the Calder Cup. "Now we've got to look and see what we've done as far as helping some kids to develop and go from there. I think our goaltenders have played great this year."
Devilsfanatic 03-26-2005, 12:23 PM The Rats seasons never mean anything to me, because the farm always produces special players, and to me, this year is no different. Like I said, I got my first taste of Rats hockey, and even though they lost 5-3 to the Amerks, what I saw was great (offensively anyways) Nittel looks like he's got some moves, and a great shot. Suglobov is a treat to watch, great shot, and hands, and hustle, love the way he played that game. Parise, what can I say, the kid is playing great! Great hustle every shift, likes to find the open man, plays D........he'll be another gem. Foster, man, if he can stay healthy, he'd be awesome, the way I saw him dipsy-doodle around some of the Amerks was masterful! Voros, looks like a big kid out there, and a real **** disturber, he could be a Bertuzzi-esque player. I've gotta say, the future looks good to me, even though the Rats never make the playoffs.....and can we please get Dean McAmmond up when the NHL returns???

Thought you hated Parise, DF? ;)

Made me into a believer, the hype was well deserved......isn't that all that really matters ;)

 that would be great wouldn't it?

I change my position, I WANT THIS.
Crosby* + NJ = Cash Money and Stanley Cups.
Count it.
*They wouldn't select anyone else...right?

Lou may go with Johnson, since we need d-men......but most likely Crosby
Defence first 03-26-2005, 07:47 PM IF the draft was based on the AHL standings i don't think the devils would draft or even pick Crosby. I don't think that he would "fit " into the devils organization. He might be worth more as a trade for other draft picks or proven players. that is the way i think anyways
DevilFisch 03-27-2005, 01:39 AM Oh, I'm SURE arrangements can be made for Crosby. As far as needing d-men, if Crosby doesn't fit I'm sure Lou can command a choice deal to get some D (and some picks, players, and maybe even fat/phat stacks of cash) for Crosby.
Feed Me A Stray Cat 03-27-2005, 05:54 PM O man, you guys should have seen that goal by Suggy. It was simply outstanding-kovalev esque. Too bad the Rats lost though. 3 out of the last 4 have been 1-0 wins though, so we are improving.

I noticed that your new to the board, and welcome!!! It would be awesome if you could post on here frequently. Ratsgirl does an excellent job of recaping games, but it is always good to get more first hand information.....btw, Suglobov has been on one of his hot streaks recentely.....what do you feel is the key for him to get some consistency in his game???
Feed Me A Stray Cat 03-27-2005, 08:23 PM He is a bizzare player. I dont really think the players around him matter as much as it does say to a guy like Gomez, because, for example, that goal he scored was a solo effort. He can skate through the entire teams at times. I think for him to establish consistency, he needs to focus. Sometimes, he just stickhandles himself out of plays. Other times, he makes bad decisions when he runs out of options. And I dont think he brings everything, everynight. I can't really explain it. Granted though, he is a great talent.
4check22 03-28-2005, 10:18 AM DF, what's with the new Avatar? There are a few things I look forward to every morning: my coffee, two poptarts, and Ralph Wiggum with a finger up his nose. (sigh) Oh well, at least you love Parise now.
