SERIES THREAD: Shawinigan (7) v. Lewiston (10)

Offense-laden Lewiston, who also sports a solid goaltender, takes on the Shawinigan Cataractes, who boast a solid defense and one of the top goaltenders in the league.

Schedule:
Game 1: 03/25: @Sha
Game 2: 03/26: @Sha
Game 3: 03/29: @Lew
Game 4: 03/30: @Lew
*Game 5: 04/01: @Sha
*Game 6: 04/04: @Lew
*Game 7: 04/05: @Sha

Head to Head:
10/31/04: Lewiston 0, Shawinigan 2
11/19/04: Shawinigan 6, Lewiston 2
02/25/05: Lewiston 3, Shawinigan 3 (OT)
Season Series: 2-0-1, Sha

Notes:
- Ellis is arguably the best goaltender in the league (after Crawford), and will be counted on heavily - alongside his underrated defense corp - to shut down Bourret and Picard.
- Shawinigan won't be able to outgun Lewiston's big line, so they will have to make their chances count against a solid Halak. Shut down the top line, though, and the Cataractes should have little trouble.
- Aubin is a question mark after taking a nasty hit late last week, and that could hinder the production of Picard and Bourret.

Sounds good to me!

Any reports you can bring back about the game would be great to read about, since those of us that can get to see this series are few and far between.

How about keeping an eye on Patrick Bernier and Ben Chaisson?

What's your take on Eric Begin, Stefano Giliati, Mathieu Petrin, Francis Pare and Kyell Henegan?

I would be very interested to hear some recaps on fights that will most likely occur, especially thoes involving Marty Doyle.

What's your take on Eric Begin, Stefano Giliati, Mathieu Petrin, Francis Pare and Kyell Henegan?

Eric Begin : Dykhuis type of player... offencive defenceman. Makes some great plays then some horrible one. Is big but looks stupid (i dont know why but the way he is he looks stupid). Good skater, but like i said he lacks concentration. Dont know if he is NHL material.. i will have to see next year. I saw better defencemens at this age..

Giliati : I like this guy alot, fast with skills he is big on paper but looks smaller on the ice :dunno: . I think he is hurt right now.

Petrin : Used on the 4th line.. no problems iwith skating, hits hard .. i like him but i dont think he will be used for his scoring abilities.. He will have to fight to go higher.

Francis Pare: Good shot, not fast but junior speed... looks small on the ice.

Kyle Henegan: Was dressed all year but played most of the game on the bench and NEVER saw a shift. EXTREMELY BIG AND STRONG. No skating problems. Looks like a giant out there. Will see more icetime next year.. could develop in a defencive defenceman. The sad thing is that the coach send him on the ice to fight. Have 0 icetime.

My 2 favorites prospects with this team are: (can be drafted and i would draft those 2 before any of the other mentioned above)

Bouchard: Mondou type of player, awesome speed, great hand / vision. Small but fears no one. Hit and gets hit without complaining. I would draft him if i was a NHL team.. Lots of potential there.

Patrick Bernier: The brother of the other. Fastest player on the team and the hardest working. Hits like a bull. I mean i only saw another player in the junior hit that hard (Anthony Quessy). I would draft him too... if he develop his scoring abilities he could become and awesome 3rd liner.

Ok heres a little recap
Cats lost 4-1 but they never scored a goal
In fact its a Maniac defenceman that scored in his goal(cant remember who)
The maniac played a very boring but yet effective game by using the trap. They tryed to keep the game with no emotion because the Cats are better when they are fired it up. Maniacs layed some great hits. Bottom line is that the Cats offence was nowhere to be found tonight.

Notes:
Pacquet : Have no problems of switching sides on skates, turning around fast, quick move but.. He have a bad cruising speed. He cant win races for the puck. He got passed on a 1 on 1 two times today. Lack of experience.

Paiement : Best defenceman on the ice.. great shot on his goal.. made some nice passes too.

Doyle : got 3 shifts.. wanted to fight ANYONE but each player he asked refused to fight. Nice move by the coach of Lewiston to tell his player to not fight him. Got 20 min of misconduct.

Bourret : Was awesome tonight, fast on his skates. Make a nice duo with picard.

Halak: Made some nice saves but wasnt really tested tonight. he is HORRIBLE when he is not in his net.

Bégin: Skates well, not a bad game. Got some good shot at the net.

Giliati: Was the fastest Cataractes on the ice tonight. Played on the best trio of the night for the cats.. Laberge-Giliati-Bernier

Picard : Didnt stand out...

Mondou: Nice hands.. nice moves but he had some horrible shots all night. This guy need a Roussin to put some points. He is doing all the job on his line...

Vienneau : Great game overall.. i really think this guy could make it to the NHL if he can work on is skating.

Bernier: Had a so-so game.. couldnt lay some good hit but he tryed. Like i said his line created the best chance of scoring.

Chaisson: Didnt play tonight.

Thanks for the info. I followed some of the game online, seems as though Halak had a somewhat easy night. Should be an interesting series.

Did I said that chaisson didnt played tonight ... Hum sorry about that hhahahaha
He looks like a skinny giant out there. Played with Pacquet.. Didnt have alot of icetime. Created a penality in front of his net.

Alex Bourret is on fire! He had 4 points(2g 2a) and the game is not over(end of the 2nd period) Lewiston is leading 5-2.

It's 6-3 now. Bourret with 2G and 3A, 4Pim,+2. Amazing game and series for him. 9 points in 3 games so far. Wow can you say sweep. ;) I had a feeling Lewiston would win, but I really didn't expect them to play this well. They seem to be really controlling every game so far.

Ellis sounds as if he's having a dreadful series. Yanked in the first six minutes last night.

Not shutting down the big guns for Lewiston, and that's killing Shawinigan.

Nah the whole team played bad since 2 weeks ago. Cats have a really young team and lacks of scoring. They make the effort but they lack experience... Ho well i hope they win tomorow so we could see them one last time in Shawinigan :(

Seems like Julien was worn down...just an outsiders opinion. He carried quite the load this year.

He didnt play bad, i was there the first 2 match. His team had no offence, didnt score on powerplay thats the difference.
