Bad coaching decision

Denis Francoeur made a very bad coaching decision tonight. This was a must win situation tonight to skip the first round of the playoff. Rouin was playing tonight and the Cats needed to win to keep the 1st rank. They played against Gatineau,

The clock stopped with 45 sec left and Francoeur knew that Rouin won their game. Trailing by 2 (this was 2-0 for Gatineau), the chances were that they were not able to get back and to finish 2nd in their division... So they would face Lewingston in the first round next week. A brawl in the end was inevitable imo. They were losing and facing Gatineau next week. Francoeur, hoping that he had still a chance to score 2 goals in 45 sec and then win in overtime, put all his best fowards on the ice. (Gatineau was playing well and this was near impossible) Bouchard,Paré,Mondou... VERY VERY SMALL PLAYERS. (5"10 and below). At the end there was obliviously a MAJOR brawl. Gatineau had some very bigs players on the ice.. Wathier, Fergus, Roberts..
And kicked the ass of the small talented foward of the Cats. This was brutal. Even the goaler was hiting. Mondou, Courcelle and Bouchard were the 3rd man in some fights. Which will lead certainly to games suspentions. My question is : Why Francoeur put his best players on the ice with so little time.
He
1. Risked his bests players to take injuries and fight.
2. Is the cause of future suspensions next game. (The first game of the series vs Lewingston). Losing his first line
3. Had the chance to put his goons or at least Marty Doyle to send a message for the series. ( Or to protect his good player of being hurt)

The problem is that we knew that there would be a brawl in the end. But Francoeur made a stupid decision that might cost him next serie.

/offtopic The game was boring as hell... Gatineau are looking damn good. They might win vs the Cats and then Vs Rouin. Walthier was very good tonight, he will be NHL caliber if he develop well. I can see him at least in the AHL.

*edit* i tough the Cats were playing against Gatineau in the first round
