Both players were sent to the minors by Florida and will have to pass through waivers after Oct 3.
IMO San Jose should claim both if they are put on waivers. Both have offensive talent but are not Keenan type players and would probably thrive in the west.

Shvidki and Kolnik: San Jose only has a finite number of players in can have under pro contract-50. Yes, there are currently only 47, but, the icetime that players like Kolnik and Shvidki would demand/deserve would cut down on ice-time of homegrown (San Jose drafted) prospects such as Tomas Plihal. Of, course, to play in Cleveland, they'd have to clear waivers again.

I can't see either cracking San Jose's line-up, I mean, as if Florida's roster is superior to San Jose's.

If San Jose were to take one, I'd rather see them take Kolnik. He seems likes a hard-working small forward who I've liked since he was with the Islanders.

I don't see it happening, I suspect both will clear waivers, because nobody really needs them for their own NHL roster.

Kolnik and Shvidki have far higher offensive upsides than Plihal.

The relative strengths of the 2 rosters has nothing to do with them making the NHL. If you are a Mike Keenan type player you will play. If you aren't you have no chance even if you are the next Gretzky. Marcus Naslund was not good enough to play for Keenan. Garbage like Jonas Hoglund can play on the first line. How much can you rely on his ability to evaluate players.

Kolnik did well in training camp and deserves a shot. Shvidki has the talent but has not been able to finish. It would be nice to see if he just doesn't have the finish to play in the NHL or he is being screwed up by Keenan.

There is no way either should pass through waivers but I wouldn't be surprised if they did. Sadly in today's NHL the 40-50 point two way player is more prized than a potential Palffy or Naslund.
