Parenteau article at the Cincy website

“Every game I get more confident and that helps me a lot," Parenteau explained. "I think that is the main reason why, I just had to get my chance. With the lockout, I had four wingers in front of me and it was hard to get on the first two lines. Now that I getting my chance, I can prove to the coach that I can play well."

“He's taken the extra power-play time and the extra minutes and used them well," head coach Brad Shaw said. "I don’t think we have any forward playing with more confidence with puck right now. He’s a guy who generates a lot of his confidence through contributing offensively and he’s done that very well lately.”

“I’m working on everything," he said. "Nobody’s perfect, you have to work hard on every facet – even offense. If I want to get to the NHL, I have to have a harder shot, be quicker – its like that for every player. I gotta be a little stronger too, because I’m a winger and I have to get the puck out on the board.”

I've been impressed with his play the last couple of months, but I still believe he is a long-shot to make it as a top 6 forward in the NHL. What does everyone think of Parenteau?

I've been impressed by the strides he's taken. He's a poster boy for a late round pick, some potential but work to be done. He's shown offensive ability, he's worked hard to improve his defense and physical play. He still needs to add more strength and he would of been better served on the second line in Cincy, but the lockout ko-ed that idea. Provided all who should be in Anaheim get there next year, it could be an important season for Parenteau.
I think he could be useful in third line role, hopefully bringing to the table a mix of Schastlivy and McDonald.

Well, if you don't think that P.A. will make it as a 3rd line forward thank God that you are not the new owner of the Mighty Ducks. As a ninth round pick, he is out performing most of the first round choices. You are definitely not seeing the same player as I am. Your response to my last post with regards to P.A. Parenteau out performing guys like Chistov, was, that Chistov was not focussed because he wanted to be in the NHL. If that is true, than he needs to grow up, NEWS FLASH, every player in the AHL wants a promotion to the NHL. Parenteau's recent success has to do with increased ice time and time on the PP.

Yeah, I gotta say if Chistov can't do better than what he's doing at the AHL level, then Parenteau definitely should be ahead of him to get promoted to a LW spot in the NHL. Though clearly guys like Lupul and Kunitz will get first crack at any winger spot.

Basically the Ducks have put too much time and money into Chistov to let his underwhelming performance this year decide his fate within the organization. Chistov knows this and he knows that no matter what at the next NHL training camp he will be given every chance to lock up a top 6 forward. Because of that he doesn't have a lot to play for because there is no NHL this year and he can still show up at September NHL training camp with a million dollar contract, no chance at being sent down to the AHL (because he would have to go through waivers) and a top 6 forward spot waiting for him.

Anaheim will be happy to have Parenteau spend another 2 years in Cincy before making a decision on him. Thats the difference between being a 1st round pick with high expectations and a million dollar contract and being an overachieving 9th round pick.
