QMJHL draft positions draw to be held Monday
LONGUEUIL, Que. (CP) - A drawing will determine the draft order for new franchises in St. John's, Nfld., and Saint John, N.B., the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League announced Friday.
The drawing will be held on Monday. The winning team gets either first pick in the midget draft or both the first pick in the expansion draft and in the European draft. The league will also announce any rule changes for the 2005-06 season adopted at leagues meetings that morning.
The St. John's Fog Devils franchise announced Thursday it would be ready to begin play next season after signing a confidential lease with St. John's Sports and Entertainment, which operates the Mile One arena for the municipality.
Last month, the league announced the Fog Devils would not be able to play in 2005-06 because it didn't have an arena lease.
Frankie 03-05-2005, 03:12 PM so which would be better to choose? i would guess the first midget pick is more important. any experienced q followers have an opinion?
what's the likelihood of angelo esposito joining saint john or st.john's?
SPORTSMANIAC 03-05-2005, 05:23 PM When does the QMJHL Central Scouting List come out? In April like last year?

Speed Demon 03-06-2005, 08:25 AM Get the Esposito kid.
Adele 03-06-2005, 05:26 PM I should know this but what position is Esposito? I have heard that St. John's may be looking to take a local kid that is playing away this year - personally, I think it would be alot of pressure for a local boy to play on this team given the fact that expectations will be high starting off.

Slim chance he will report.

He is a forward.
Adele 03-07-2005, 11:39 AM LaLa,
I have a question for you - do you think that a kid at the level of Q hockey is better off playing away from home or at home? I was asked by a mother of a player who is currently playing away what I thought?
I figure the pressure of the hometown crowds would probably be immense?
Sabrebat 03-07-2005, 04:05 PM Saint John won the coin toss and will have the first pick in the Midget draft:

Depends on the player. Every kid is different. Some kids want to get away from home, others would rather stay. There isnt really a right answer.
Same with NCAA vs. CHL. There isnt a clear cut path that players should take, it really depends on the individual.
Frankie 03-07-2005, 04:25 PM did saint john make the smart move by taking first pick in the midget draft? i guess they have a certain player in mind who they really want?
will they take esposito even if he's likely headed for ncaa?
i'm wondering about the euro draft too. will st.john's have first pick in the entire chl?
sorry for all the questions! after 14 years of following the ahl, gotta get used to the way junior works!

Esposito will not be picked 1st without a 100% guarantee that he'll report.
And St. John's will have the 2nd overall Euro pick, Saint John will have the 5th pick. The 3 CHL leagues rotate every year and this year it goes OHL, QMJHL, WHL. But draft position is not as big a deal in the Euro draft since it's not a real draft where you pick the best player available. Teams go into it with pre-arranged deals with players and pick the best player that they've agreed with to report.

I believe Saint John will take Alex Grant as the #1 pick.
Newfie Bruin 03-14-2005, 08:44 PM I think so too, but i hope they dont so then the Devils can grab em. Esposito would be nice, but he may not even play a single game
