Sounds, from what I've heard, like he's had a pretty solid camp so far. Who's he been playing with, and what's the likelihood of him sticking?

Yea a fellow I talk with over AIM says that Michalek deserves to be on the roster opening nite. He's been very impressive he said. He's been Playing With Damphouse in the first pre season game. He seems to be buddies with Plihal and worked with him for awhile. Him and Marcel Goc were paired together in the prospect tournament.

I dont expect...even though I would like to see him be a Shark this year. I dont think he well be. Not saying he couldnt handle it. But he's only 18 a fresh rookie. I think a year with the Barons could spike his confidence if he puts up some numbers. Get a scoring touch in his game. I think he might be the first to get called up though if injurys and Trades happen.
Zalesak would need to clear waivers to play in Cleveland plus he's already been there for 3-4 seasons...what more can time in the AHL do for him? While Michalek could benifit highly from playing down there for a year. I expect him to play full time come 2004-2005 though.

Heres the opening roster IMO

Forwards: Ricci, Damphouse, Marleau, Sturm, McCaulley,Primeau, Korolyuk, Smith, Harvey, Parker, Thorton, Cheecho....With Zalesak sitting in the press confrence mabey getting pluged in here and there durring the season depending on who's hot and who's not.

Defense: Stuart, McClaren, Rathje, Hannan, Fahey,Ehrhoff with Davison being the 7th man subbing in and out like Heins did before him.

Barons look very good this year.

Michalek, Boyes, Goc, Ekman, Stevenson, Plihal, Rissmiller, Dimitrakos, Hansen, Loynns, all upfront
Preisssing, Carkner, Fibbiger, Mullick, Cloutier, Murray on defense
Patzold, Kotyk and rarely probally seeing Scheafurr.

Back to Michalek...I think a year in Cleveland would help him.. Not because he cant handle the NHL. But hopefully he could put in some goals this year. Get that thought in his head... "hey I can score goals for my team" and mabey cary that into the NHL in his sophmore year.

I pretty much agree with your assessment with the following exception. You have 13 forwards listed and there will be 14. IMO Dimitrakos will be on the Sharks opening day roster. You don't mention goalies, but I believe Kipper will be gone by opening day leaving a roster of 14 forwards, 7 defensemen, and 2 goalies for a total of 23.
