Here are the combos from yesterday's game.

Deschenes-Stafford-Brunelle
Murphy-Carter-Law
Kane-Richards-Peluso
Smith-Abel-Snowball

Ruggeri-Borsheim
Jones-Laux
Meyer-Hope

Christian Houle was in goal.

As far as highlights,
Mike Peluso- best player on the ice. He had 4 goals, although I think 2 could have bounced off a screening Phantom. He displayed excellent positioning around the net. Picked up all the loose garbage.

Jeff Carter- Played OK. Had one nice play on a PP, where he came out of the corner w/the puck, deked a D-man, and nearly stuffed one home. He played a little too far out, he needs to work on getting closer to the net for rebounds and deflections.

James Laux- Played well even though I wasn't real impressed with the Phantoms rookie D-men. But Laux played the point on the PP and did a good job moving the puck.

Mathieu Brunelle- Had some chances but took poor shots. His shots were mostly aimed right at the goalie's throat. He needs to start looking for the corners.

Nick Deschenes had the last goal of a 5-3 win on a nice cross-ice, one timer.

There was only 1 fight- between Borsheim (who played defense but looked better on the wing vs Isles) and Cam Janssen. Not much to report there, wasnt much of a fight. The Rats didn't dress any muscle (No Nittel, Clouthier, or Skrlac  ) Houle looked decent in goal although Aleksander Suglobov made him look invisible on a breakaway goal.

There was one interesting moment when one of the Phantoms (???) got into it with Rats winger Chris Hartsburg, with father Craig looking on from upstairs. Dad showed no emotion either way but its gotta be strange when the fans are yelling for your son to get killed.

Some great possibilities for player combos/nicknames:

Kane and Abel (and a Snowball's chance in hell).
Murphy's LawLaux.
Beat him 5 Houle.

He had a lot of PP time in the 3rd, but most of the goals were on goal-mouth scrambles. He did a good job keeping the puck moving down in the corners but there was so much action out in front that it was difficult to see who did what. It wasn't like he had 3 assists on crisp clean passes, it was more like--throw the puck to the net/watch it bounce off of 3 or 4 players/then pick up an assist. He did win key faceoffs in the offensive zone though.

A clever photographer might have even caught Elias, Smith and Jones in the corner...

just wondering how he's doing. i see his dad and grandpa where i work every few days. He's from my home town.they said he is just trying to make the phantoms and he's "in tough" right now to make the team. does that sound about right. thanks for any info on him as well as the other prospects

He had a real tough first few shifts in the Rats game. He looked like he just learned how to skate. He settled down later on. He definitely showed a willingness to stand in there and throw and the fact he can play W or D is a plus, but he looked a lot better as a forward in the Isles game. If he's trying to make the team as a D-man, he might be in trouble.
