OHL Playoff Design

I just started to watch the ohl due to the lockout and am impressed with the hockey. My question is which/how many teams are selected for the playoffs?

8 from each conference, it is the same format as the NHL. The OHL champs go on to the memorial cup.

The Two Division winners get the 1st and 2nd seeds in each Conference, so as it stands at this moment in time.

It's a high quantity of playoff spots, but for junior the goal isn't about selectiveness, it is all about development, but you most likely aren't going to see a lower seed win it all, especially not this year with the strength of some of the teams.

Right now with the West I fully expect the first 4 seeds to advance to the second round so you will most likely see a 1 vs. 4, 2vs. 3 second round.

In the West I have a little harder time picking who has the best shot to come out. I am not sold on Brampton right now, and I still think Mississauga is the best team in the West, but I also like the makeup of the Petes. The only teams that I don't think have a great shot at coming out are Ottawa, Kingston, and Belleville.

I think it will be a Brampton-London final. I'm still hoping Owen Sound can pull off an upset though.

Good job explaining how the playoffs work, but...

I'd say the #2 vs. #7 matchup in the West is going to be about even money. Those seeds may change hands a few times, but Guelph and the top 3 teams in the West division are all pretty evenly matched IMO. Also Erie could give Kitchener a good run for their money.

I think this has the potential to be the best series of them all - and it will come down to two factors; which team has home ice and which team is healthier.

I realise that, but windsor is a rough team always looking to play the body. I would not be hoping for a London loss, but for the Knights to be banged up before playing Kitchener or Erie.

The Kitchener series would be a bigger toll on the Knights IMO. Windsor and London have a decent rivalry but the talent level just isn't there for the Spits to hang with the Knights this year and I would really expect that to be a series sweep. The Rangers have the ability to take the Knights to 6 if they can get solid goaltending which accomplishes a lot more than a couple of physical games.

Yeah, the thing is, all we had to do is play Windsor once in a blowout and they started getting nasty. We had several injuries from which people are still healing.

As a Windsor fan I definitely don't want to play London, at least not in the first round. Two first round exits against the Knights in the last two years is more than enough. I think most Spits fans are pulling for Windsor to play Plymouth, they're 5-0 against them this season.

He's been out 10 or 11 days..... he says he's planning on playing in the Soo on the 25th.

The training staff of the Rangers are pretty good - they won't let him play unless he's medically cleared to play. My understanding is that he's coming along well - he's been cleared to work out; the reports are that they've checked for underlying causes for the problem (stress fracture was one possibility) and found nothing.
