Andre Benoit

For all of those interested, Andre Benoit, a D-man whom the Leafs cut earlier in the day had a record night in his opener with Kitchener.

4 Goals, 4 Assists.

Not bad. I guess he has something to prove. I know it is only one game, but my uncle has season's tickets and he says Benoit is a real gamer. Though inconsistency has plagued him in the past. I know my uncle is not exactly a prime source, but he called that Eminger would be a top 10 pick one day, when he was playing as an under-ager.

I hope Benoit doesn't come back to bite us in the ass later.

He was an amateur try-out, right? (I don't know his draft status though...)

It's not like just because he was cut from camp that Benoit will never get looked again by the Leafs. Benoit had a pretty good camp, notching 3 points I believe. He probably got a huge boost of confidence and went on a tear tonight. Good for him. If he continues, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets invited back again for a longer look next year.

If you check www.ontariohockeyleague.com stats you'll see that Andre Benoit has been at or near the top of the league for points by defencemen since his rookie year (2000-2001). Last year, he led the league in points for defencemen. This is not a new thing for him (okay, 8 points in a game is a little over the top, but he's no stranger to scoring goals).

Not at all! In the majority of cases (and 3 of the 4 goals on Friday if I recall correctly) his shots come from the blue line. He will jump into the play if he sees an opportunity, but he knows his job.
