Seeing as the Q and the OHL have started and the WHL starts today this thread should be used to update how our prospects are doing. Francois-Pierre Guenette has scored one goal today for Cape Breton. Bernier is playing in this game too.

Bernier had a nice goal on Friday, slot, one timer, kinda like Brett Hull, top shelf.

Guenette's assist came on a shorthanded 2 on 1, did a saucer pass over the defensemen right onto the tap of the other play who put it in.

College season is starting up again soon.

I came across something interesting, Kevin Bieska who some have described as slow, was runner up in the Bowling Green fastest skater portion of the Falcons skills competition. :dunno:

Indeed, I was reading a scouting report on Bieksa a while back, and the way they described him he sounds alot like Sopel, only more physical. I hope he has a good senior year, he was very good last season.

Wow, F.P Guenette scored 4 goals today, added an assist, and was +4 tonight for Cape Breton....can you say Jason King or what? I like the looks of this kid, could be another steal from the Q.

His teammate M.A Brenier was less impressive, only scoring a goal on the night.

Matthew Hanson, and Ty Morris were held off the score sheet.

What?? I think you have it the other way around.

Bernier is sheer sniper. He has an NHL shot already. When he gets it in the slot the puck is already in the net.

Bernier is on Cape Bretons #2 line and Guenette is playing with the better offensive players.

Guenette is a great player, but he isnt a pure goal scorer like Bernier.

Not sure...I just find the stats and post them, I live in the wrong continent to be watching the Russian league. The only Canuck prospect I'll see all year is when Chad Brownlee and the MSU-Mankato Mavericks come up to play here in a couple weeks.

I guess I'll do the College updates for the season:

The season is under way for most teams...

John Laliberte had an assist today in a 5-2 win, BU's home opener. He should have a more prominent role this year, so look for bigger things from him.

Kevin Bieska had a goal in a two game set this weekend, BG lost both games. This is Bieska's senior year, so he needs to do well to earn a contract.

Brett Skinner had 4 assists in two pre-season games this weekend, his season starts next weekend I believe.

Matt Violon stopped 13 of 14 shots in a exhibition game, and got the win.

*of note: Ohio State split a two game series this weekend.

Gobs and gobs of cool stuff about our European prospects.

Cool stuff! It looks like Krikunov is really turning it on this year...we could bring him over next summer...size continues to remain a factor, though.

Danielsson has been doing well at international matches...not doing much in the SEL, though (to be expected, I guess)...he looks like a good sleeper pick for us.

Great stuff from everyone here!

Pretty good to start the year off

2gp, 0g, 2a, 2p, 3 shots, +1. He's playing on the 2nd line, a lot better than his freshman year when he was stuck on the 4th line.

Thanks for the stats :)
He always seemed like a decent sleeper pick to me-good size, and led an *inferior* league in scoring. Sorta reminds me of Muckalt.

After going pointless in his first 13 games for Brynäs IF, Nicklas Danielsson was sent down to Almtuna IS of the Allsvenskan Norra. Here's hoping he'll benefit from the increased ice time.

Interestingly enough, Shjon Podein plays in the southern division of the Allsvenskan...you'd think that the former Stanley Cup winner could find a spot on one of the teams in the 6-7 elite European leagues....

I'm too lazy too check through all the Russian box scores, but I did notice that Evgeny Gladskikh( a guy I've been pimping on the boards) had 3 assists in Metalburgs 8-2 win today. He know has 8 points( 3 goals, 5 assists in 11 games) and 4 points in 1 game in the Upper League. The reason he hasn't put up stats the last couple years is because he was stuck on the 4th line, with crappy line mates and limited ice time. He's finally getting ice time and taking advantage of it. We should bring this kid over, he has some hidden offensive talent and his stick handling has been compared to Pavel Datysuk. I'd like to see a line including him and Chubs in the future.

Edit: Ilja Krikunov had an assist in his game today
