colosilverado 09-19-2003, 08:16 PM I'll be attending and am looking forward to seeing some of the youngsters!
BF_Sweden 09-20-2003, 01:42 AM Morris, Blake and Selanne will make their preseason debuts tonight against the Florida Panthers. Kariya, Foote and Sakic are not expected to play . . . Forward Peter Worrell, acquired in a trade with Florida two months ago, will not play because of a sore knee.
whitesox_2000_22 09-20-2003, 09:58 AM will stephens be playing tonight???

No Viitanen :(
PatrickRoy33 09-20-2003, 11:37 AM McAllister-Hordichuk almost a lock to go tonight....
Hope Budaj and Sauve do well....
avs1dacup 09-20-2003, 11:54 AM looks like mcallister will be playing forward tonight with skrastinks, blake, boychuk, saviels, slovak, and morris all playing d.
Thewbacca 09-20-2003, 12:34 PM Who is Hahman?
Laperriere22* 09-20-2003, 02:59 PM Who is Hahman?
It's just a typo. That's obviously Hagman.
A change in the lineup card....
Forsberg wont play tonight, but Kariya will suit up.
Nordik_19 09-20-2003, 06:41 PM Is anybody having any update of the game so far i can't find any :dunno:
It's 2-0 Panthers after one period. Bednar and Weiss (PP) have the goals.
Nordik_19 09-20-2003, 06:49 PM :( Thanks, is there a link to listen to the game on radio ???
:( Thanks, is there a link to listen to the game on radio ???
No, unfortunately there isn't.
Marek Svatos gets the Avs on the board. 2-1 Florida.
Sounds as if Tanguay and Hejduk assisted on the goal. I know that Nikolishin is centering a line with Selanne and Kariya.
Yikes Sauve pulled a Patty and misplayed the puck. Derek Morris saved his butt as he blocked the empty net.
Hejduk ties up the game at two.
Tanguay and Blake with the assists on the Duke goal. There is about 13 minutes left in the second period.
Enoch 09-20-2003, 07:05 PM glad its tied.....
How is messier and Nedo playing. Messier put up like 3 assists the other day ;/
Kariya pounces on a rebound from a Selanne shot, the Avs take a 3-2 lead.
Nedorost is rehabing from offseason shoulder surgery. Messier is not in the lineup.
Coolburn 09-20-2003, 07:07 PM glad its tied.....
How is messier and Nedo playing. Messier put up like 3 assists the other day ;/Nedorost is still out from offseason shoulder surgery but is expected to be ready by the season opener. Messier played on the top line some alongside Jokinen & Kozlov due to a late scratch of Nilson. Sounds like this is a good game, too bad there's no radio feed.
PP opportunity for the Avalanche. Colorado is starting to really pour it on.
Budaj has come in for Sauve.
Hejduk scores again as the Avs make it 4-2. First PP goal of the preseason for Colorado.
Travis Scott comes in for Jani Hurme, both teams have switched goaltenders. Blake gets an assist on the Hejduk goal, both players have three points so far in the game.
Enoch 09-20-2003, 07:11 PM holy crap
2 goals in less than 3 mins..
So...
Hejduk has two, Kariya has one, and Svatos has one, four unanswered goals in the second period coming back from a 2-0 deficit.
:)
McAllister in the box, Panthers on the PP. Florida is 1-1 so far on the PP in this game.
Anthony Stewart tips in a Mike Van Ryn shot, Panthers pull within one.
Enoch 09-20-2003, 07:17 PM Jori.....I love you
Jori.....I love you
:dunno:
The Panthers are going back on the PP, they are 2 for 2 thus far in this game.
avs1dacup 09-20-2003, 07:20 PM yay mcallister, way to be a liability(his TRUE colors). this is EXACTLY why he should not play a regualr shift. he can't stay out of the box(4 times in 2 games, 2 pp goals against tonight while he was in there)and the avs pk isn't good enough to be GUARANTEED being shorthanded every game thanks to him.
rpontbriand 09-20-2003, 07:21 PM Chris problem seems to be that he is real weak in the conners. The biggest 6' 8" sissie you will ever see in that area. Therefore he tends to hold.
Colorado kills off the high sticking Saviels penalty, teams at full strength.
....and not long after.....Blake takes an interference penalty
:dunno:
He says he loves you!! You don't understand that?!?
:joker:
Avs kill the penalty, less than two minutes remaining in the second period.
Kariya draws a peanlty with under a minute left in the period; hooking against Anthony Stewart.
The Avs score fairly quickly on the PP. Alex Tanguay makes it 5-3 Colorado. Svatos and Hejduk with the assists.
Enoch 09-20-2003, 07:29 PM :) No, Rainbow is not my favorite color.
He says he loves you!! You don't understand that?!?
:joker:
No I understand, it was just unexpected :joker:
End of the second period, the Avs lead the game 5-3.
The Avs exploded in the second period scoring five goals, including two on the power play. Hejduk has four points (two goals, two assists). Florida has outshot the Avs 21-16 and they are 2-4 on the PP as are the Avalanche.
Enoch 09-20-2003, 07:34 PM Wow, is the Svatos - Tanguay - Hejduk line not impressing!
How are our rookie D-men and Skoula performing tonight?
Skoula isn't in the lineup tonight. None of the young defenders have stepped up from what I have heard. Granted I missed the first period, but it sounds as if they struggled early in the game.
ryansiu 09-20-2003, 07:40 PM thanks for the updates guys!
were the goals let in my sauve soft goals? or Defensive errors?
thanks for the updates guys!
were the goals let in my sauve soft goals? or Defensive errors?
I'm not sure. I believe the first goal scored, Bednar was able to get behind the defense and beat Sauve on a good shot. The Weiss goal was on the PP, I can offer no description...sorry.
Svatos skates around the Florida defense and puts one in top shelf; 6-3 Colorado. That's Marek's second goal of the game.
ryansiu 09-20-2003, 07:52 PM woo hooo, does anyone know what round svatos was picked? from wat i remember it was from one of the later rounds
GO AVS!
Svatos was drafted 227th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Upon1 09-20-2003, 07:57 PM which line is facing up against the best florida D?
Tanguay-Hejduk line or Kariya-Selanne line?
Just interested to see how the Panthers coach rates the Avs forwards...
I can't tell from the radio broadcast what defensive pairings Keenan is playing. I'll post any if they are mentioned.
About ten minutes left in the third period..
Morris called for roughing.
Enoch 09-20-2003, 08:01 PM wow....Avs are turning it on now eh??? Svatos is really pushing for that roster spot. I wonder if He could grab a spot on the third line with Niko and Bates. Could be good??? We will see how he does the rest of camp ;)
Sounds as if Gill is being paired with Lilja at least on this PP opportunity.
Now its Van Ryn and Lilja on the PP for the Panthers.
Nathan Horton does score on the PP, sounds as if there was some confusion in front of the Avs net. I think Budaj moved down too soon in the butterfly. Panthers 3 for 5 on the PP.
Lilja and Weiss with the assists on the Horton PP goal.
Thewbacca 09-20-2003, 08:06 PM Horton and Stewart living it up
Enoch 09-20-2003, 08:07 PM Well crap, our PK still blows ;/. At least we are a month away from the season,
on a side note
GO HORTON! I like this guy quite a bit.
ryansiu 09-20-2003, 08:07 PM is it just me, or does our PK suck?
The PK has struggled, but Granato is using alot of young players on the PK outside of Nikolishin tonight.
Svatos is really flying tonight
Tripping penalty on Charlie Stephens.
Nikolishin gets an empty net goal with about 90 seconds left in the game. That does count a SH goal as the Panthers pulled Scott. McCormick with the lone assist, 7-4 Avs.
Hagman had his head down skating up the ice and Boychuk just nailed him. The Panthers retaliate and the Avs get a PP opportunity out of it.
whitesox_2000_22 09-20-2003, 08:20 PM Do u have any idea how Stephens is playing??
7-4 Colorado is the final score.
I'll post the final statistics in a few minutes.
Do u have any idea how Stephens is playing??
Stephens had a solid game, but I don't think he has distinguished himself enough that he will make the team. I think Krestanovich falls into the same category. Jordan had a fairly quiet game tonight. Svatos was clearly the best young player on the ice tonight for Colorado. The broadcasters seemed to talk up Slovak as well in the third period. They feel the competition between the last two defensive spots are McAllister, Smith, Liles and Slovak.
whitesox_2000_22 09-20-2003, 08:28 PM Thanks for everything JOri...u da man
Heimy 09-20-2003, 08:30 PM Thanks Jori
Could you please post the Panther players names you remember hearing that didn't make the scoresheet? Us Cat fans don't know who else was dressed for this game. :dunno:
EDIT: nevermind, I found it
Thanks for everything JOri...u da man
Except I'm a woman but thanks  :yo:
Thanks for everything JOri...u da man
Jori is not a man!! Man is the definition of a man!! :)

4hockey8 09-20-2003, 08:49 PM Based on what everyone heard, how do you think it's stacking up for the 6th and 7th D spots? With Vitanen not playing tonight, I assume he's ticketed out somewhere.
Liles, Slovak, Smith, McAllister - who do you keep and why? Who can help the team the most in the 6/7 spots?
Thoughts anyone?
At this point I'd say its between McAllister, Smith, Liles and Slovak. This could easily change after a couple more preseason games. I think McAllister will make the team (like it or not Granato/Tocchet seem to favor him) and I would personally like to see one of the younger defensemen make it. I want Smith far far away from Denver (Hershey is far enough).

Liles as the #6 to get a kid some experience and when needed, mcallister as the #7. with the avs PK the way it is, they CANNOT play mcallister. thats an average of about 1 penalty a game that they'll be forced to kill off. the avs win 7-2 tonight if it wasn't for mcallisters inability to paly w/o taking a bad penalty. like someone said, the guy is HORRIBLE in the corners. he's slow and to stay in position he has to clutch and grab or put his stick between a players leg and ends up dragging them down. if not that, he goes in hard and ends up with his arm on their head and smashing it into the glass and setting called for roughing. he's a journyman and like i said earlier, if htis team wants to win a cup, he should not play a regular shift.
PatrickRoy33 09-20-2003, 09:39 PM Stop crying about McAllister....it's preseason....FSRM showed a couple of dumb penalties tonight by players NOT named McAllister....he'll change when the regular season starts....
Yes, I do believe he is a little tentative in defending....but Tocchet is working with him on it....
ryansiu 09-20-2003, 09:42 PM hes a liability, i say we waiver him!
colosilverado 09-20-2003, 10:12 PM Please bear in mind that I am not a hockey expert and that my knowledge of positioning and such is very limited. That said....
Other than Svatos, who was flying tonight alot like Drury used to do, I liked the way Tanguay seemed to pick up his play while centering. I know I have been one of the ones who have been hard on him but tonight he really impressed me. Alot. Played hard and looked a little quicker, if possible, than in the past. Nobody impressed me on the draws though. I saw flashed of what Kariya and Selanne can do, even though they said they are light years away from where they used to be when they played together. I am drooling at the prospect of them getting their timing back and having a top flight center between them.
The 1st goal on Sauve was definitely a case of Weiss(?) being behind the D, 1 on 1 with Sauve and Weiss waiting Sauve out as he slid by on Sauve's left side. I thought maybe Sauve was a little too far out and should have been on the post, but I'm sure he was trying to cut down the angle.
I thought that for the most part, Sauve looked pretty good. I thought that Budaj looked better, though. Other than his puck handling. He held the puck for awhile on a play and couldn't decide what to do with it, and he ended up passing straight to a Panther because of pressure from behind. But he is young, so that can be expected. Sauve wandered way too far out of the net and DMo saved his butt twice on that play. That said, DMo really impressed me as did Blake and Skrastins. Skrastins wasn't flashy, but very solid and smart and a very nice addition.
Saviels (sp, it's too late and I'm tired and lazy) didn't do much to impress me. He looks pretty slow, but maybe it is just his stride. Boychuk, other than the big hit on Hagman (who impressed me alot), didn't do much. Slovak was decent. Nothing special. Better than Boychuk and Saviels though.
I liked the way Charlie Stephens played. Chippy and played the body alot. He and McCormick looked pretty good, along with Wilsie and Hahl.
Overall, the young defensemen looked just that...young. The youngters were out there alot together, so that explains some of the breakdowns.
Tanguay, Hejduk and Svatos looked deadly down low. It is fun to watch. I know that Svatos is Hershey bound, and that will help him progress. That said, he may be another of those players that you guys were alluding to earlier in this thread....another steal by our scouting staff. I was kinda disappointed in Krusty. I thought he might do more with his time, but he looks more like a Nedorost type.
All in all, this game was a blast to watch and I liked what I saw from the vets. Nikolishin and Hahl were pretty good on the forecheck. McAllister was pretty invisible other than the penalty in the corner, but it was a close play.
I might think of something else later. If you have questions about a certain guy, lemme know.
Enoch 09-20-2003, 10:42 PM hes a liability, i say we waiver him!
nah, when he gets out there he plays with intensity. Thats what the Avs need. Maybe a little coachign will change his game.
At the least, I say we could garner a 7th round pick from some team looking for defensive depth.
Crossbar 09-20-2003, 10:57 PM yay mcallister, way to be a liability(his TRUE colors). this is EXACTLY why he should not play a regualr shift. he can't stay out of the box(4 times in 2 games, 2 pp goals against tonight while he was in there)and the avs pk isn't good enough to be GUARANTEED being shorthanded every game thanks to him.
Trust me Worrell isn't any better in the liability area especially when it comes to his high elbows, falling on top of players (terrible skater), and bad rep. tho last year he actually was better in drawing a few penalties for us but still a major liability when he was here in Florida.
cazzy 09-20-2003, 11:36 PM The new building is a fairly nice place. I was a little shocked to not get strip searched as I walked through the door like they do at any event in Denver. They didn’t even search thru my bag. You always know when you’re in a small town arena when they’re doing the “chuck-a-puck” thing.
It seemed like it took a while for the Avs to get going in the first period. The Panthers were playing a really tight defense.
Svatos really was truly amazing.
Horton and Weiss were pretty impressive too,
I’m starting to notice a trend on the power play. Maybe I’m stating the obvious because now that I think about it, you pretty much have to do it this way. It’s looking like the power play is going to consist of four forwards and Blake or Morris on defense. Kariya was quarterbacking the power play tonight. With all this firepower I guess you pretty much have to do this. This is going to be fun to watch throughout the season.
All the Panthers that weren’t on the roster tonight were all setting in seats at the end of the arena. Messier was there but I didn’t see Nederost. I guess he’s rehabbing somewhere.
I’m so bummed that the Panthers changed their plans and aren’t going to train up in Vail now.
cazzy 09-21-2003, 08:05 AM I forgot one side note. Blake, Kariya and Selanne were all wearing the “A”s on their jerseys
colosilverado 09-21-2003, 03:56 PM I thought that the arena was decent for a small town area, but I was disappointed that the crowd wasn't more into it. I guess it is preseason and the folks up this way aren't as used to hockey, other than the ones that make the trek down to Denver to the Avs games on a regular basis.
I am still psyched to have some ice up in my neck of the woods though. It will be nice to get more people into hockey up in this neck of the woods and maybe eventually get some more youth hockey and such.
The PA guy absolutely sucked, though. Must have been first game jitters.
Yeah, the chuck-a-puck thing scared the heck outta me. I was waiting for some noodle armed kid up in the higher sections to bean someone in the head. I guess that is one benefit of the place being so small!
Cazzy, where were you sitting?
cazzy 09-22-2003, 06:18 AM I was sitting pretty much at center ice right above an area where the had some cameras set up. I don’t know who the cameras were for. Maybe the Panthers were lucky enough to have the game shown in Florida??
Ya, the PA guy was pretty bad. Only in a farm town would Stephen Weiss become Stephen Weeeeese.
avs1dacup 09-22-2003, 08:06 AM I was sitting pretty much at center ice right above an area where the had some cameras set up. I don’t know who the cameras were for. Maybe the Panthers were lucky enough to have the game shown in Florida??
