Xbox freezing

I'm having some pretty bad problems with freezing and "there is a problem with the disc you are using" messages popping up. I dont think its my games cause it happens with most of them (except maybe one). A real piss-off, does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Thank you.

When did you get your Xbox? They have used three different types of disc drives, and one of them is just crap. I don't have the website that shows you which drive you have by what kind of holes you have in your tray, but a quick google search could do the trick.

Of course, make sure there is a clear path for air to get into the system, don't leave it on carpet, etc.

I've had mine for about that long too, but it only freezes on games that have reps for freezing, like Morrowind and Knights of the Old Republic. It sometimes acts funky while watching a DVD (the drive sounds like it starts and stops every two minutes...doesn't disrupt the video/audio feed, so who knows) but otherwise it's pretty good and doesn't act up.

This page has pictures of the three oldest drives that M$ used since launch.
