I understand the problem and how to get to the cmd prompt ...
what do I type exactly type beginning where and ending where
expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt
expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt
expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com

expand d:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt
Basically you are expanding the cab files from the original cd to replace damaged/corrupted/lost files on the HD

start - run - cmd [ENTER]
once the command line opens -- type
expand d:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt
Basically you are expanding the cab files from the original cd to replace damaged/corrupted/lost files on the HD
this is the response I got after I hit enter the 1st time: "can't open input file: d:\i386\autoexec.nt_" ????

check the disk structure on the CD to make sure that there is indeed an i386 dir and an autoexec.nt file

what do I do if there isn't an i386 dir and autoexec.nt file on the cd?

what CD is it? I have every CD of every OS since Windows for Workgroups - so I will check it out and see

HELP please :banghead:The easiest way to solve your problem, is to go to your friend's place (You must have at least one friend who runs Windows XP), and copy the missing file(s) to a disk. The odds are the only one you are missing is Autoexec.nt. There is an piece of spyware out there known to modify the file enough for Ad-Aware SE to pick it up and delete it...

You need the Windows XP/2000 CD thats why
