Well it looks like the Lethbridge Hurricanes are getting ready to make a big run in this years playoffs. Giving up 17-year old RJ LaRochelle and 18-year old David Murray not to mention 20-year old Justin Cruse for Tyler Redenbach.
I know that Redenbach is a great player but I was wondering if this was quite a bit of youth to give up for a 20-year old. Maybe it isn't all that much. I don't know.

RJ is the only player I minded losing in that deal due to youth. However the Canes have lots of D that can step up. I was surprised they didn't deal Chapman instead. Maybe there weren't any takers and you have to give to get, so it seems like a fair deal.
taylor0017 01-11-2005, 02:50 PM At First I thought they gave up too much ..but Cruse is a 20 year old , good player but in his last year, Murray would probably not be a regular with them , and was playing dueto the injury and all players and the worlds, and U17. Larochelle was often injured, and with the abundance of d men in the system, I think Brad McEwen(not Stocker) who made the trade , seen this , and really would LaRochelle be a regualr in the lineup next year??? I was a bit suprised that Versteg didn't get traded, and Chapmen as well. But all in all, not bad might get Lethbridge through the first round of the playoffs, but don't really see it going further then that.
salostyle 01-12-2005, 09:23 PM Could you elaborate on why you were suprised in Versteeg NOT being traded? A local kid and offensive dynamo I would have shat myself if he was dealt...he's 18 and has a bright future.
RJ Larouchelle is from Speedy Creek I mean Swift Current and that probably had a lot to do with why he was chosen over what some might see as a more desirable Brennan Chapman.
Good deal for both teams as far as I am concerned...not overly familiar with Cruse or Murray, but I heard Murray has deft skill and Swift is definitely lacking in that department. Redenbach will be a MONSTER for the 'Canes and if Sorochan can hold the fort I could see Lethbridge make a run for the Memorial Cup!!!
Rumours had it that Petkau was nearly traded instead of RJ, but they decided at the last minute they didn't want to deal Petkau.
That Petkau is some fast.
I'm glad to see lethbridge going for it. I was curious what Cane fans thought of Mark Olafson. I know he's been out for a little while with the groin injury. He seemed to be scoring more before getting hurt. Any opinions on him would be appreciated. Thanks.
Nielson81 01-13-2005, 10:51 PM I really like the Redenbach deal for the Canes.
With young blueliners like Dudas and Thunderchild, along with Ben Wright who should be a regular in the lineup next year they could afford to move Larochelle.
As for Cruse, he never stood out to me and a 20 year old HAD to be moved.
As for Murray, he's not going to be a star in the WHL, but he will be a good player.
The KEY to the Canes Mem Cup Run will be Aaron Sorochan, from what I've seen he is the Canes MVP this year, Filewich and Yellowhorn are scoring but Sorochan is damn near unbeatable. I'll be interviewing him on Friday morning and again next week so maybe I'll learn more about him then.
Take it easy
loudi94 02-05-2005, 01:56 AM They won't be making any runs if they keep losing to the Hat. I can't believe Seabrooke weaseled a third star from tonight's game.
BTW, Merv I can't believe you plugged Eklund's site on the air.
JoeHockey97 03-06-2005, 02:18 PM Im a season ticket holder and avid canes fan... I think their run is too streaky, they seem to win a few and then forget to show up for a few.. drives me nuts. I honestly believe that, although he will never be mentioned or named as such, that Olafson is one of our most valuable players. perfect example of the fact that you dont have to score to be valuable. I was also suprised that Versteeg wasnt traded. hes one of my faves but he was playin like **** and really didnt belong to any lines.... same for lammers really. Heres hoping Yellowhorn, Filewich, Olafson, Petkau, and Chapman are all back for the playoffs.
P.S. No class from the Tigers fans booing as yellowhorn limped off the ice after their boy knee'd him out of the game

What's the injury report on all these guys?
What's the injury report on all these guys?
I haven't been able to talk to Petkau in about 4 or 5 days but last he said he was done for about 2 weeks. He had skated but it was extremely painful, I'd imagine he's made a bit of progress, but I think he'll back for game 1 of the playoffs.

Heh man, I was at that game and I can tell you with 100% reliability and assurances: we weren't booing Yellowhorn...we were booing the ref. That knee-on-knee was an accident...no penalty. And because the ref deemed it a penalty that set the ball in motion for that rough 3rd period. Now...we WERE booing Sorochan! :)
Nielson81 03-07-2005, 01:00 PM Latest I heard was two weeks for most of the guys, which means playoffs...they will be back. Not to sure about Yellow Horn....I'll find that out today or tomorrow at practice.
