CHIEFS ACQUIRE LAPOINTE
Created: Jan 9, 2005
The Spokane Chiefs have acquired 20-year-old forward Danny Lapointe from the Prince George Cougars in exchange for a sixth round selection in the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft.
The Victoria, BC native is in his fourth season in the WHL with previous stops in Seattle and Portland. The 6’3”, 195 pound forward has appeared in 32 games this season posting 12 points and 51 penalty minutes.
Lapointe earned career numbers last year with 17 goals and 42 points and 125 penalty minutes in 61 games between Prince George and Portland. In 2002-03, Lapointe played in a career high 69 games
“This move addresses our need for a bigger forward,” Chiefs General Manger Tim Speltz said. “Danny scored 17 goals last year, but we know him best from his time in Portland when he was very difficult to play against, most specifically, in our seven game series in the 2003 playoffs. His year to this point has not gone as he would have hoped and he will receive a fresh opportunity in Spokane.”
Lapointe is expected to join the Chiefs for practice this week and for their next two games.
Spokane will play a pair of road games next weekend when they travel to Tri-City to take on the Americans on Saturday night and Everett on Sunday night. Spokane will return home on Friday, January 21st when they host the Silvertips on Show Your Colors College Night presented by KHQ TV and 103.1 KCDA. Tri-City will visit the Arena on Saturday, January 22nd on Buck Night presented by Star @96.9.
