Mike and BJ Boxma

The Boxma brothers were a big attraction when they played their Bantam and Midget here in Edson, Alberta. The oldest, BJ, was the goaltender for the Kootenay Ice when they won the Memorial Cup in 2002. He went on to play a game with the Manchester Monarchs and a couple in the ECHL for the Royals.

His younger brother, Mike, was a dominant Midget AA player when he was here, but hasn't done much with the Ice- 5 points in 62 games last year.

I never got the chance to watch either in Edson, but the town loved them. I'm curious what people who've seen them play Junior, and in BJ's case, pro thought. What stopped BJ from getting past the pro level? Similarily, why is Mike struggling in the Dub? Lastly, does anyone know where BJ is playing?

Re Mike Boxma....he asked for a trade from the ICE at the beginning of the season and nothing has happened for him....he hasn't played a regular season game in the WHL this year.

He is a big kid but didn't play like it...he couldn't score and on the back end wasn't physical so he really did not bring much to the team other than by being a good guy.

Realized he was headed for fourth line spot duty this year and decided it best if he moved on....no takers as of yet but with the deadline approaching who knows.

Ah, very interesting, thank you. I couldn't figure out why he had yet to play a game this year.

Thank you! I couldn't figure out where he'd gone after playing for Grant MacEwan.
