It could come down to special teams. Both squads have good pps so discipline will be very important.

Both have great offense while Russian defense looks shaky compared to Canada. Glass hasn't been properly tested yet though. Canada has last change and kind of home ice too.
Therefore, I'll go for a 6-4 victory for Canada, the last one being an empty-netter.

Edit: Crosby, Bergeron, Stafford, Carter x2 and Ladd for Canada. Ovechkin, Malkin and Shirokov x2 for Russia.

I hope for a clean hitting game, without childish taunting or moronic headhunting.

I heard this and like the idea. Belle has been really solid this tourney and is built like a horse. Seabrook is probably better but with the injury, I'd rather the strong Belle against Malkin.

Me too, plus he's such a strong skater i think he can use that to good advantage to neutralize Malkin and others. You are right....Belle has played well at this event....he's been more than solid and Sutter had been increasing his ice time steadily.....looks like he is trusting him more and more.Seabrook is not 100%.

I'm gonna call 5-2 Canada, same as in the other thread. Canada hasn't had to face an offence like Russia yet, but on the other hand Russia hasn't seen a defence like Canada's yet either. I think that if Phaneuf can more or less neutralize Ovechkin the other D pairing will be able handle Malkin and his 185lb frame no problem. I'm expecting to be on the edge of my seat all game but to never really be scared.

^^^^^

Are they taunting Ovechkin?? Kinda like Ovechkin taunted the entire USA team the other night? He has to learn somewhere that he can't do that stuff. If it's not here, someone will teach him a MUCH harder lesson in the NHL when he tries it there.

Canada did go to the IIHF because OVechkin before the game I believe pretends to score goals with an invisible puck on the other teams goalie, trying to taunt them. Canada told the IIHF to be on the lookout for it, and Ovechkin can be given a penelty for it.

Ask Gee Wally(there is a post in the Bruins forum about it, where he has a source) , he said that it's an unwritten rule that you should not go into the other teams zone during the pregame ritual. It shows a little bit of disrespect.

Historically the Russian's goalies ALWAYS been underrated & always performed in the final game. Khudobin is not a high rated prospect but like his predecessors, I believe he'll do well in the FINAL.

Jeff Glass got all the pressure to perform & I highly doubt that he will perform well.

Canadians always had lack of discipline against my Russians & it should cost them the victory.

Ovechkin and some of his team mates have been disgraced to their country and to the game of hockey. You may argue that it's a culture thing but you think someone classy like Igor Larionov or Slava Fetisov would act like these punks? It's the empty cart that makes the most noise. Think about that for a second.

As for Team Canada, they should concentrate on winning the gold and not get goaded into anything stupid because I wouldn't put it past some of these Russian clowns to start something to keep Canada from winning against them.

I don't think that any Canadian wants to see someone like Harold Ballard handing out his own gold medals that he had made for the returning Canadian kids because of another brawl broke out like in '87 and the team was left them without medals.

That was hardly the first big incident in hockey history.

To my knowledge, neither has ever acknowledged that Sinden directly asked Clarke to break Kharlamov's leg.

The quotiation goes something along the lines, "(Harry) Sinden was saying that somebody had to do something about Kharlamov and I looked up and I realized he was talking about me." - Clarke.

Anyhow, cheap shotting is a part of every style of hockey, admit it or not. Whether its constant stickwork, big hacks, diving, whatever, it's all there in all games.

Canada has the biggest showboating players ever who like to taunt big time. The biggest trash-talkers as well. Starting with Claude Lemeux and finishing with Theo Fluery, who would slide head first all over the ice and then crying after trading from Calgary with cocaine tears. Phill Esposito was such a class, given the cut throat signs to the Russian players, middle fingers to the crowd, swining sticks at the referees. Canadian players behaved so bad, the impression of them lived for years in Russia and is still there. Russians still think, Canadians are just clasless people. Showing middle fingers to the crowd??!! How low can you go!!!

Taunting is highly respected in NHL, GM are always trying to get the biggest Canadian arsehole for playoffs. So give Russians a break. You live by sword and you die by the sword. Canadian players are the most classless players ever. That's the fact.

Again I say, Ovechkin is a disgrace to his country and to the game of hockey. He was a little brat three years ago when he was flopping around like he was shot with a rifle. He was dispicable then and and it's pretty clear that he's become an even bigger and dispicable brat!

Ok so far. 3 things

1. I take back any doubts I ever had about Phaneuf. He is a fricking titan out there. 3 minutes killing penalties over 1 double minor??? You have got to be kidding me! NO ONE can do those numbers. I would consider dark and evil acts if it meant the Oilers could magic up a guy like him.

2. Carter. Carter, Carter, Carter. I hoestly believe we are sseeing the emergence of a new Thornton/Allison. With better skating. A tremendous player

3. Crosby. Did you see the look in his eyes when Crosby knocked Ovechkin offside ? I haven't see that kind of look since Mess in his earlier days. That look of absolute determination This kid can bring himself to this level emotionally. Mess's intensity with an almost Gretzky like skill set? Simply frightening.

Please note I am not saying Crosby will be better then either of them. But he has HOF potential.

There was nothing weak about that goal. The Russian D very wisely waited until there was traffic in front of the goal, then snapped a quick wrister through the traffic. The puck may have hit something on the way, but it was still a good play, I'd say.

Which game are you watching, my friend? I haven't seen too much diving there. Objectivity, objectivity...
What makes you so sure you're the one being objective?

See this is why I wish it was on ESPN. Because now the only people seeing the game are biased canadians claiming everything is a dive(which it could be, but who knows when its onle canadians seeing the game).

I am watching the game, I am not biased, and there is no diving.

Considering that most Canadians (and MOST people on this board) are very knowledgable about the game, I think we have a pretty good idea of what is and what is not a dive. I mean come on, we've been watching the Russians for years. ;)

Wow, some (not all) posters on here have to be the biggest hypocrites in the world. In one thread, they'll complain about all the clutching and grabbing going on and how the ref's need to come done on it. But in here, everyone calls Ovechkin a crybaby because he is being clutched and grabbed, and he doesn't want that crap. And everyone time someone is clutched or grabbed on the Russian team and a penalty is called against the Canadian's, everyones immediately calling it a dive. Maybe the ref actually made the right call is trying to clamp down on the clutching and grabbing so the star players can showcase there skill.

Well, I don't much care which team wins this one. They are not my favourite teams, which should be obvious from the flag below my avatar. I just enjoy the good hockey.

Seriously, please point out a single diving incident for me.

Ovechkin this, Ovechkin that. He's a marked man playing with undrafted talent. You don't hear the Russians marking Crosby. ;)

This thread makes the message boards where I'm chatting about USC-Oklahoma seem impartial. And that one is nothing but Sooners and Trojans fans yelling at each other.

Clutched and grabbed? Try knocked around. I didn't realize Ovechkin was such a *****. I thought he was supposed to be a tougher more physical Kovalchuk? Guess not.

IMO, I think that is what a penalty on Coburn, and I doubt that it was a dive... however, no one can tell me that there was no embellishment on the Russian's part. He practically went down like head been shot.

All in all, pretty good game/

Not all over the place but it's there. I'm trying to be as objective as possible but there were a couple of Russian dives. It's to be expected though.

Well, Ladd shouldn't have cross-checked that Russian player. I know, it shouldn't be called a penalty in gold game but the ref is the same for both.
And that Coburn hook. Not a dive. I would have called it and I'm a ref myself. :)

ovechkin cries to the refs when someone makes a clean play on him...everything i've seen of him this tournament screams primadonna

i'm rather dissapointed, and i'm not all that impressed with his play in the end...maybe i expected too much, but i did expect more

Seriously, I don't think you're Canadian. Russian in disguise me thinks with a mistake like that. Even leaflander doesn't mess up english that bad.

Hey, I didn't say anything about diving. I personally don't think there's as much as Pierre McGuire would have us believe (that's not to say there isn't any, though).

But your "objectivity" comment was pretty silly.

Everytime he's come down the wing he's been stood up and then held against the boards. That's clutching, and it's slowing the game down.

It's big fun to follow a game on 2 forums : HFBoards and a Russian board.

Here it's all biased except for a few Russians like me.
On the Russian boards, it's 99.9% biased.
