Boucicaut 01-04-2005, 08:57 PM This thread makes the message boards where I'm chatting about USC-Oklahoma seem impartial. And that one is nothing but Sooners and Trojans fans yelling at each other.
Maybe people like me should just leave, so that some of these homers can discuss all they want, without irritating second opinions ;)
Johannes Climacus 01-04-2005, 08:58 PM Please don't get this locked guys. There's a bunch of us who can't see this game and are relying on reports here as the only way of doing so.
Chaos 01-04-2005, 08:58 PM Considering that most Canadians (and MOST people on this board) are very knowledgable about the game, I think we have a pretty good idea of what is and what is not a dive. I mean come on, we've been watching the Russians for years. ;)
And I think you have a pretty good idea that it is your team playing in this game and getting called for penalties. Surely you can admit that there is some bias involved here.
EroCaps 01-04-2005, 08:58 PM actually the top 9 Russian forwards are already all NHL property
Who are you kidding?
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 08:58 PM And I'm not being biased towards the Russian's, I'm Canadian, and offering a point of view.Come on.....yer a Russian...
soilwork2004 01-04-2005, 08:58 PM a brief first period unbiased recap
canada comes out to start the game on a mission and on a nifty drop pass getzlaf scores the first goal to get the crowd into the game. shortly after russia goes on a 5-3 in which glass and phaneuf come up big to preserve the lead. the tournaments best power play looks very average and (more significantly) alexander ovechkin looks very average. shortly after canada goes on their first powerplay where danny svret makes it a 2-0 game off of kind of a fluke goal where he banked it off the goaltender. ovechkin starts to take matters into his own hands and instantly transforms into a tough robocop like enforcer laying some nice hits. while his team mates are confusing the arena with the dive tank ovechkin attempts to get his team going by taking the body. a couple minutes before the period expires russia gets one back on a screened jeff glass. period ends with jeff carter taking a huge run at one of the russian defensemen which leads to a little scrum at the end between carter and malkin.
total shots by ovechkin: 0 shots
total offsides by ovechkin: 2 times
total powerplay oppurtunties by russians: 4 oppurtunities
watching phaneuf take off ovechkins head (prelude to the second period): priceless
Seachd 01-04-2005, 08:59 PM Everytime he's come down the wing he's been stood up and then held against the boards. That's clutching, and it's slowing the game down.
No. Clutching takes place from behind. Standing someone up is a good thing defensively. It was when I was in Pee-Wee, anyway.
PecaFan 01-04-2005, 08:59 PM I don't see much diving either. But then, I make it a point not to listen to the announcers. I like McGuire et al, but they're totally biased towards us. That Ovechkin / Bergeron hit is a perfect example, as someone said above they both hit each other, and it was even. If they called that as Bergeron hitting Ovechkin, they're biased.
Pretty good period, much like I expected. We usually take lots of penaltys, and the PK will ultimately decide this game.
Conando 01-04-2005, 08:59 PM when I said wood I meant body, because he's built just as good as any other hockey player, and no players use wood sticks anymore ... I woulda said laying the composite if slashing
sidelines 01-04-2005, 08:59 PM Evman, I made a mistake, and noticed it a minute after I posted it. Good thing you were smart enough to point it out for me.
Lionel Hutz 01-04-2005, 08:59 PM I don't have any issue with any of the penalties called. Canada needs to play more disciplined.
Ovechkin is clearly human, not the juggernaut people here have built him up to be. Reading here, you'd think he was a wrecking ball. He's getting knocked around like a child.
Boucicaut 01-04-2005, 08:59 PM Hey, I didn't say anything about diving. I personally don't think there's as much as Pierre McGuire would have us believe (that's not to say there isn't any, though).
But your "objectivity" comment was pretty silly.
Well, silly comments are my mainstay, people laugh at me all the time :) But I just meant that I'm neither North American or Russian.
Epsilon 01-04-2005, 09:00 PM ovechkin cries to the refs when someone makes a clean play on him
So he's like Iginla or Bertuzzi. I imagine Washington would be satisfied with that.
Vic Rattlehead 01-04-2005, 09:00 PM Good first period.
The Old Master 01-04-2005, 09:00 PM Well, Ladd shouldn't have cross-checked that Russian player. I know, it shouldn't be called a penalty in gold game but the ref is the same for both.
And that Coburn hook. Not a dive. I would have called it and I'm a ref myself. :)
well that explains it! a ref, its not stevie its ray.......the devil made me do it..:)
Evman* 01-04-2005, 09:00 PM Everytime he's come down the wing he's been stood up and then held against the boards. That's clutching, and it's slowing the game down.
That's actually something that in Canada we call defense.

Even though his team had a substantial edge in power play time he was in capable of turning on the red light and giving his team a kick start. Look at the Canadian side and you see the way real stars perform in big games.
The Canadians are the better team, from top to bottom, playing in front of a home crowd. Spare it.
struckmatch 01-04-2005, 09:27 PM Vorobiev crosses the line with a cheapshot.
Way to go Russia, do they have a word for sportsmanship?
Seachd 01-04-2005, 09:27 PM Ouch. 5 minute major.
Levitate 01-04-2005, 09:27 PM I feel bad because any time a player shows a sign of weak play, fans jump all over them. Montoya didn't play his best throughout the tournament, and someones got to feel like their first rounder was a bust. He should bounce back though
true that, especially around here. how players perform in this tournament isn't really gonna matter in the end in their development...
creative giant* 01-04-2005, 09:28 PM Vorobiev kicked out for a dirty play... crosscheck to the face of Nigel Dawes. Just brutal.
Ruskies getting frustrated.
think-blue- 01-04-2005, 09:28 PM Vorobiev gets 5 and a game for his stickwork on Dawes?
Whitesnake 01-04-2005, 09:28 PM I guess our Canadian Kids are GODS!
After that hit, watch for Phaneuf, he's way more dangerous now! That should be fun!
Dangerously gifted, he can hit and he can score too!
Way to go Phaneuf! Watch for those hits now!
jaydub 01-04-2005, 09:28 PM Gee, Ibet if Ovechkin scored now, he would taunt the fans and the canadian bench
Phaneuf! 6-1.
Leaf pick Vorobiev just got 5 and game for a slash to the legs and a cross check to the face
Westcoasthabsfan 01-04-2005, 09:28 PM PAIN pure PAIN.....
Gotta love it dont let up... 6-1 Canada
struckmatch 01-04-2005, 09:28 PM My god, did you guys see that pathetic display of stickwork by the Russians? There were about 4 slashes, and a crosscheck to the face.
What a disgrace.
Chaos 01-04-2005, 09:29 PM Dont even think the canadians can choke this one away ;) . Would be nice to see the Russians score a few and at least make the 3rd period interesting.
I feel bad because any time a player shows a sign of weak play, fans jump all over them. Montoya didn't play his best throughout the tournament, and someones got to feel like their first rounder was a bust. He should bounce back though
Gotcha. Yeah people are freaking out, it makes me laugh.
Anyway, 6-1 DAMN.
paxtang 01-04-2005, 09:29 PM The Canadians are the better team, from top to bottom, playing in front of a home crowd. Spare it.
So, I assume you are the official Capitals rep who has to respond to every post about your Golden Boy?
Levitate 01-04-2005, 09:30 PM i think this kinda shows that no matter who you are or where you're from, you can get frustrated and do stupid stuff if you're losing. cheap shots happen when players get frustrated, i hope canada doesn't do anything (ahem, taunting) to make things worse
Marshall 01-04-2005, 09:30 PM I think that means that, according to previous guidelines argued ad nauseum recently, Canada can now, without loss of class, rub it in the Russians' faces.
Faaxinho 01-04-2005, 09:30 PM This IS getting ugly (by score too). I'm still hoping that Russians won't get too frustrated. And that Canadians won't revenge anything.
My god, did you guys see that pathetic display of stickwork by the Russians? There were about 4 slashes, and a crosscheck to the face.
What a disgrace.
Dirty plays? No! :amazed:
EroCaps 01-04-2005, 09:31 PM So, I assume you are the official Capitals rep who has to respond to every post about your Golden Boy?
He's not my golden boy. He's our best prospect and most of what is being said is comically off-target. I can see responding is quite pointless. GG Canada.
Thresher 01-04-2005, 09:31 PM Unholy heifer! wow!
ESPN is complete SHINOLA. I can't believe I'm missing this - deprived of watching BOTH freakin' medal games.
at least 1040am has a decent online feed.
 Canada
Tuggy 01-04-2005, 09:32 PM Dont even think the canadians can choke this one away ;) . Would be nice to see the Russians score a few and at least make the 3rd period interesting.
Ya that's likely :joker:
The Russians might get a couple more shots before the game is over....
Epsilon 01-04-2005, 09:32 PM Vorobiev was just auditioning for a spot on the Leafs next season there. ;)
Psycho Papa Joe 01-04-2005, 09:32 PM Love the comments about the Czechs and Americans begging the Canadians to whoop the Russians. Come on Canada, keep it coming. Make it double digits and keep on nailing Malkin and Ovechkin. Teach them what playing Canadians is all about. Embarass these embarrassments.
Wilka and friends..............
So now that Russia is getting super dirty with the sticks and high sticking people in the face, is it alright if Canada goes and taunts the Russian bench from here on in? I mean, it's a 5 goal lead, same as when Russia beat the USA. You support taunting when 1 team is being chippy, right?
Wow Severet has not been taken in two NHL drafts and is on Team Canada how does that happen
EroCaps 01-04-2005, 09:32 PM I think that means that, according to previous guidelines argued ad nauseum recently, Canada can now, without loss of class, rub it in the Russians' faces.
You were wrong on the Caps board and wrong here. ;)
ArtVandelei 01-04-2005, 09:32 PM I saw Dawes tugging at his jersey after the 5th goal was scored. Now I can't even cheer for Canada and their pathetic showboat antics.
paxtang 01-04-2005, 09:32 PM He's not my golden boy. He's our best prospect and most of what is being said is comically off-target. I can see responding is quite pointless. GG Canada.
I'm an American. Your posts have been rediculous.
David 01-04-2005, 09:33 PM Just as I thought. Ovechkin and some of these Russian kids are gutless pansies who showboat and act big when they are doing well but disappear when going gets tough and become invisible...then even start swinging their sticks in defeat...classic bullies...what a shameful display.
Some of you Russian boys really, really disgraced yourselves and your country.
Seachd 01-04-2005, 09:33 PM What's being said? The Canadians are all over him? Why get so bent out of shape?
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 09:33 PM He's not my golden boy. He's our best prospect and most of what is being said is comically off-target. I can see responding is quite pointless. GG Canada.Would saying he acted pretty immature in the USA game be "off-target"?
Foppa_Rules 01-04-2005, 09:34 PM USA will come back next year and knock the Canadians on their rear ends.
Vorobiev was just auditioning for a spot on the Leafs next season there. ;)
We could use the physical presence back their :D
Lionel Hutz 01-04-2005, 09:34 PM He's not my golden boy. He's our best prospect and most of what is being said is comically off-target. I can see responding is quite pointless. GG Canada.
Yes, I admit, it was ridiculously comedic when I said Ovechkin was getting pounded. Are you watching the game? or just making stupid comments?
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 09:36 PM Malkin just had a shot on goal!
Epsilon 01-04-2005, 09:36 PM Wow Severet has not been taken in two NHL drafts and is on Team Canada how does that happen
Because junior hockey is not NHL hockey.
struckmatch 01-04-2005, 09:37 PM Bad penalty by McCarthur.

No, just keep putting the puck in the net. I have never enjoyed watching a pummelling this much in my life.
USA will come back next year and knock the Canadians on their rear ends.
I doubt it most of the U.S team will be in the pro's next year and they weren't impressive this year.Maybe if Parise had played
benji 01-04-2005, 09:38 PM I thought it would be a bit closer than this.
Seachd 01-04-2005, 09:38 PM Because junior hockey is not NHL hockey.
And because NHL teams make plenty of mistakes.
Leafer4Life 01-04-2005, 09:39 PM End of 2nd! Great work Canada! :handclap:
EroCaps 01-04-2005, 09:39 PM I'm an American. Your posts have been rediculous.
Umm, I don't care. I'm willing to bet you can't tell me how they're "ridiculous".
Ovechkin kissed his jersey and flashed his nameplate to a few obnoxious fans. Which is petty, but harmless. He didn't go by the Canadian bench or show them up, that was Malkin.
So, where's your beef?
Chileiceman 01-04-2005, 09:52 PM whats the score?
Histrion 01-04-2005, 09:53 PM whats the score?
6-1 Canada.
colonel_korn 01-04-2005, 09:53 PM whats the score?
6-1 Canada. :yo:
SHAIBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 09:53 PM You just know that when Crosby scores a goal in the 3rd period, he's gonna go roaring to the bench like just won the Stanley Cup in OT.
Then he gonna taunt the Russian bench and start pointing at his name crest.
You just KNOW it's gonna happen!
haha, what was that about the beer sales and Canadian fans on The Fan radio?
chicpea* 01-04-2005, 09:54 PM 20 more minutes. Let's stay out of the box and keep them shooting from the blueline. Let's go guys! :handclap:
The Old Master 01-04-2005, 09:54 PM can. is holding ao and em off the board. for all you guys waching tv, who is haveing the better game?
Chileiceman 01-04-2005, 09:54 PM 6-1 Canada.
Holy Crap!!! I thought it would be closer.
Does the score reflect how the game has been played or is it unfair
Slick Nick 01-04-2005, 09:55 PM Yup... Canada is fregginf unbeatable in this tournament :amazed:
Burke's Evil Spirit 01-04-2005, 09:55 PM What a pasting. There's no WAY we can blow this lead...
Boucicaut 01-04-2005, 09:55 PM Hmm, the only thing to hope for now is that players keep their cool in the third. Hoping for a good game is too much asked probably. Can't really see the Russians making a comeback now.
Alfie#11 01-04-2005, 09:56 PM What a pasting. There's no WAY we can blow this lead...
They better not. I couldn't stand it.
Cheers to a great effort by the boys so far. :handclap:
Faaxinho 01-04-2005, 09:56 PM And Ovechkin went to the lockerroom.
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 09:57 PM Good night Alexander.
Avery4Byng 01-04-2005, 09:59 PM baby alex want his bottle

BTW, make sure no Russian player lifts up the net if the score is close near the end of the 3rd. :teach:
Psycho Papa Joe 01-04-2005, 10:00 PM The Great Ovechkin just quit on his team. No showboat antics today?
Til the End of Time 01-04-2005, 10:01 PM Don't worry; I'm sure you'll hear big things from Ovechkin in the future.
Chaos 01-04-2005, 10:01 PM baby alex want his bottle

edit: why bother
Epsilon 01-04-2005, 10:01 PM Got to love the maturity of most of the posters here, particularly when they complain about the players.
Avery4Byng 01-04-2005, 10:01 PM i really can't stand how biased Miller and pierre are, start the letters to TSN now!
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 10:02 PM The Great Ovechkin just quit on his team. No showboat antics today wimp? It's amazing what 48 hours can do to your attitude.
I guess karma caught up with Ovechkin, and his teammates for that matter.
Avery4Byng 01-04-2005, 10:02 PM :bonk:
haha what did i say?
Boucicaut 01-04-2005, 10:03 PM Are you seriously that happy to see Ovechkin out of the game? Strange, I always thought it's nice to see skilled players on the ice.
Epsilon 01-04-2005, 10:03 PM i really can't stand how biased Miller and pierre are, start the letters to TSN now!
They simply make themselves look unprofessional and amateurish. I'm sure they play well to those who sing along to Molson commercials on TV; anyone else would think they are ridiculous.
sehnsucht 01-04-2005, 10:03 PM I'd like to see the bashers of "wimpy" Ovechkin take the punishment he has. The canadians have been on him like flies on honey
the bashing of him's getting ridiculous here. He has an attitude, sure, every teenager does. Where's the bashing of crosby for jumping on bergeron and knocking him to the ground in joy? That's excessive celebration of a goal, but god forbid a player's happy for scoring
Chaos 01-04-2005, 10:04 PM The Great Ovechkin just quit on his team. No showboat antics today?
Wasn't he injured earlier in the game? Ever thought thats why he went into back to the locker room? Lets have a little class in this thread if possible.
Boucicaut 01-04-2005, 10:04 PM They simply make themselves look unprofessional and amateurish. I'm sure they play well to those who sing along to Molson commercials on TV; anyone else would think they are ridiculous.
I had them muted from puckdrop. Sure helped :)
Chileiceman 01-04-2005, 10:04 PM I have a question, does ESPN use it's own commentators or do they take the feed from TSN?
EroCaps 01-04-2005, 10:04 PM My beef is you've spent the whole time in time in this thread claiming bias against Canadian posters, when it's pretty well known you're one of the biggest Caps homer out there. All you've done this whole thread is post about other people's posts about Ovechkin, and insinuating bias from other posters.
Am I wrong for claiming/insinuating bias? How?
Read this thread.
It's full of inaccurate, bias, arrogant, attacks by classless Canadian fans.
Im hoping Carter breaks that Canadian goal record. He is tied right now
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 10:05 PM haha what did i say?Smiley with hammer........Canada.
Smiley under hammer........Alexander.
storm fan 01-04-2005, 10:05 PM What is the score and why did ovechkin (sp?) leave the game??
gretzky2kurri 01-04-2005, 10:06 PM :huh:You're kidding.......right?
Avery4Byng 01-04-2005, 10:06 PM I honestly think Ovcheckin is one hell of a player, he's probably my favourite player after the candians. It is nice to see Skilled players out there but when its a Ruskie and they're playing Canada, i;d rather see him walkin down that hallway :)
paxtang 01-04-2005, 10:06 PM Am I wrong for claiming/insinuating bias? How?

Correct.
The point is you were no better.
Chaos 01-04-2005, 10:06 PM What is the score
6-1 canada
and why did ovechkin (sp?) leave the game??
Depends who you ask. You ask someone thinking logically, and its because he probably aggrivated an injury that caused him to leave the ice earlier in the game, You ask a troll looking to start a flame war, and its because he quit on his team.
I have a question, does ESPN use it's own commentators or do they take the feed from TSN?
They had their own guys.
missK 01-04-2005, 10:07 PM I have a question, does ESPN use it's own commentators or do they take the feed from TSN?
Since ESPN was only showing the USA WJC games in the USA, they had their own commentators for this tournament to offer the USA content.
We determined yesterday that since Disney/ESPN owns a 30-something % chunk of TSN, that ESPN could very easily have just shown the TSN feed in the USA today so the US fans could see the medal games.....but of course, they didn't care to do that. :banghead:
carl from pori 01-04-2005, 10:07 PM everyone who complaind about the swedish goalie heino-lindberg maybe now understand that he cannot be blaimd about the lost against canada
Panopticon 01-04-2005, 10:08 PM You ask a troll looking to start a flame war, and its because he quit on his team.
Which is pretty logical considering that he came back.
Chileiceman 01-04-2005, 10:08 PM Who would the MVP of the tournament be?
Because junior hockey is not NHL hockey.
Severet should have been taken some where in the two drafts.I mean they draft Marshmellows in the 9th round for goodness sake. And he beat out a couple decent prospects to make the roster
We determined yesterday that since Disney/ESPN owns a 30-something % chunk of TSN, that ESPN could very easily have just shown the TSN feed in the USA tonight.....but of course, they didn't care to do that.
Are you serious? As if I needed another reason to hate ESPN.
Psycho Papa Joe 01-04-2005, 10:08 PM What is the score and why did ovechkin (sp?) leave the game??
Quit on his team because the Canadians were hitting him too hard.
Epsilon 01-04-2005, 10:09 PM everyone who complaind about the swedish goalie heino-lindberg maybe now understand that he cannot be blaimd about the lost against canada
I think the score of this game has probably sealed up the goaltending award for Schwarz. To hold Canada to only 3 goals on over 40 shots was outstanding.
Who would the MVP of the tournament be?
Bergeron
EroCaps 01-04-2005, 10:09 PM Correct.
The point is you were no better.
Not true.
Flyman 01-04-2005, 10:09 PM Who would the MVP of the tournament be?
I hope Carter !
Chaos 01-04-2005, 10:09 PM Which is pretty logical considering that he came back.
And its entirely possible(and probable) that he aggrivated that same injury. Read the first part of the section you quoted please.
McDonald19 01-04-2005, 10:09 PM Who would the MVP of the tournament be?
Phaneuf or Carter.
Johannes Climacus 01-04-2005, 10:10 PM Even though it's a blowout, anybody watching care to comment with an objective view on Malkin's play tonight?
Gags1288 01-04-2005, 10:10 PM Who would the MVP of the tournament be?
That's a good question, since it's surely going to be a Canadian, I'd say that it's between Bergeron, Carter, and Phaneuf. If Carter sets the record for goals all time in the WJC, he may win it.
Chaos 01-04-2005, 10:10 PM Quit on his team because the Canadians were hitting him too hard.
:shakehead Come on now.
Epsilon 01-04-2005, 10:11 PM That's a good question, since it's surely going to be a Canadian, I'd say that it's between Bergeron, Carter, and Phaneuf. If Carter sets the record for goals all time in the WJC, he may win it.
I hope you mean Canadian record. He's not even close to the overall one.
Histrion 01-04-2005, 10:11 PM Quit on his team because the Canadians were hitting him too hard.
