(hestitantly) :handclap: ? woo-hoo!?
PanthersRule96 01-04-2005, 11:57 AM NO WAY!!!
Please be true. They must have just picked it up IF they are going to do it. I'm still skeptical though.
crossxcheck 01-04-2005, 12:04 PM confirmed I saw it too!!!! :handclap:
NYVanfan 01-04-2005, 12:04 PM Ah, thanks ...please ignore my post on the other thread.
Saw the link on "What to Look For", but when I clicked it it brought up this:
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/index?date=20050104
which is showing boxing from the 70s (??).
I can only hope that this eminently pre-emptable line-up is in the process of being changed to show the game. (maybe even in ESPN HD, which i get....? ;) )

apparently they finally remembered that there's this channel called ESPN Classic where they can show 30 year old boxing matches.

just like the nhl gets higher ratings then re-runs of the cosby show? oh wait, they dont.
seriously tho, its good that its on. are they showing the bronze medal game to? i know tsn is showing both of them.
Levitate 01-04-2005, 01:21 PM with the bronze medal game being on in the middle of the day, i doubt they show it.
it starts at 3:08 central...when everyone is still at work. by the time i get home around 6pm eastern, it'll pretty much be over. even worse for the people out west since it will be squarely during the workday.
not much of an audience to show it to
Conando 01-04-2005, 01:23 PM Ah SNA, helping the folks at ESPN see the proverbial 'Hockey light' since Jan. 2nd, '05.
it may be the last hockey ESPN shows until this time next year in Van-City
DARKSIDE 01-04-2005, 01:48 PM Kudos to ESPN. They were smart enough to realize that there is plenty of interest in the U.S. for tonight’s final. You have Flyer fans that have an interest in Carter and Richards, Ranger fans in Dawes, Cap fans in Ovechkin and Pittsburgh fans in Malkin, etc. And many of us want to see this kid Crosby. This is like a future All-star game tonight and ESPN realized that. Good for them! :handclap:
roadrunner 01-04-2005, 01:52 PM Something is fishy here. ESPN kept saying all along that they were only going to televise Team USA as far as they would advance, and yet there is no coverage of that bronze medal game at all? Not even a tape delay?
Also, I have scoured the espn.com and the only indication of the gold medal coverage is that "what to look for" blurb at the top of the page (as was mentioned). I didn't find anything else on their TV listings about the gold medal game. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tvlistings/scheduleSport?sport=HO :banghead:
A FAVOR TO ASK: For those watching ESPN this afternoon, would you please share what the ticker on the TV says and/or what the talking heads are saying. I don't have ESPN and a confrimation would be greatly appreciated, so I can pick a pub to go watch the gold medal game! Thank you.
Mr Brownstone 01-04-2005, 01:55 PM The TV Guide isn't updated. I've got Adelphia Digital Cable, and for the game against Russia, it still read that the World Series of Poker would be on. I would hope that the bronze game will be on.

from my own experience with ESPN, they SUCK at updating anything! so if the ticker says CANADA VS. RUSSIA at 8pm...then its most likely its right
jaydub 01-04-2005, 02:12 PM ESPN did something like this last year. Suddenly started showing World Championship coverage when USA was doing well (for a change)

P.S. For what it's worth, Boston University opened its new arena last night with a 2-1 win over the #1-ranked University of Minnesota, the second game of a doubleheader between the two. The first game on Sunday night was the last game in the old rink, the legendary Walter Brown Arena.

Johannes Climacus 01-04-2005, 03:18 PM Man, if they don't show this game tonight, I will never forgive ESPN.
I saw it with my owns eyes seventh period at school. I was having a crappy day, boring, I'm tired, and this is about the only good and interesting thing that happened.
Now I get home and it's off the ESPN homepage. If it's not on anymore, I'm going to be mad.
barrytrotzsneck 01-04-2005, 03:20 PM i'm willing to bet it was a mistake to begin with.
my money is on "no game on tv," tonight :(
Spiral Architect 01-04-2005, 03:26 PM I just think they enjoy not airing hockey. I remember that up until the lockout officially started, they had 12 hours of hockey scheduled to air, on opening day, on ESPNClassic. The second the lockout became official, they rescheduled and aired a bunch of baseball documentaries in that timeslot.
Markov 01-04-2005, 03:31 PM i'm willing to bet it was a mistake to begin with.

You're probably right. That was only place that actually had the game listed and now it's gone. It's not even on the ticker of ESPN or ESPN 2 on television. Some stupid intern made a mistake of putting it up, got our hopes up and then crushed them.
X-SHARKIE 01-04-2005, 04:07 PM I sent an email to get this game on. I mean it's just common sense, you can't expect people just to follow this tournament and now even being shown the end result of it. It's just common sense ESPN.
To show Classic boxing over this game well sicken me. ALthough the National championship game worries me Disney will want as many viewers as possible including those who rather watch a U-20 game.
I'm really really really hoping the game is on but I have serious doubts. :shakehead

Now, tell me where you SAW it said they'd air the game regardless. Even the announcers (who would probably have the best inside track) didn't even make mention of this. At the end of the Russia/USA game, they said basically "Thanks for watching folks, goodnight".
roadrunner 01-04-2005, 07:22 PM All I heard was that they would show the gold medal game IF the USA played in it. The USA played too early in the day today to get any kind of national audience. I see they lost that game too. :(
The big blunder today was the espn website's ticker!
Time for Canada to bring the pain!!!!!!!!!.Prediction:Phaneuf lays out Ovechkin
McDonald19 01-04-2005, 07:22 PM I thought the only games ESPN every sayed they'd show was: 3 of the 4 USA preliminary games and all following USA games that lead up to the Gold Medal Game.
So It doesn't surprise me that they did not show the US Bronze Medal Game and are now not going to show the Gold Medal Game.

Ovenchkin is totally out of his game right now.
