This one could go either way. Since I am a Finn I'll go for 5-4 Finland.

Joensuu, Tukonen, Makkonen x2 and Korpikoski for Finland.
Salmonsson x2, Persson and Svanberg for Sweden.

I hope the teams are interested in playing for the 5th position. Then again, Sweden almost always brings out the best in Finns, regardless of game importance.

I didn't even know they were going to play this game, it's just so unnecessary. And of course they're not even broadcasting it, great. I just don't know... I hope Joensuu plays a good game and gets a goal or two. Definitely my favourite player from this Team Finland. I don't mind losing to Swedes since we've already played better tournament than expected, but it would be nice to end this thing with a win.

It's not that pointless. Finishing 5th will give you a better Group next year than finishing 6th, or so someone told me.

If that's not true, then it is pointless.

Finland will win. Can Sweden compete with a team packed with talent such as Tukonen, Nokelainen, Korpikoski and Joensuu?

No, everybody realizes that this is an impossible task for a third tier hockey nation such as Sweden. Hopefully their coach has realized it too and has instructed the Swedes to do everything they can to trap, cluch & grap and bore the Finns to death in order to keep the numbers down.

Finland will win by at least a 5 goal margin!

Wasn't it a third WORLD hockey nation? I think it has a better sound to it. :D

Ok, but what is that better group excatly? I don't think it really makes a difference which of the top countries we have to face. They could roll a dice or something.

True, considering the medal rounds. However considering the difference between placing 5th-6th or going through the relegation can depend greatly on the group.

Well what's up with these Finnish lines? Dufva probably had quite a brainstorm after the Czech game..or he's just trying to wake the team up. Does anyone know why Korpikoski isn't on the line-up? :help:
Anyway...FIN 5 - SWE 3

Here are the line-ups:

Things are looking grim, I don't think there is anything else but the IIHF site :(

Johannes Climacus

Soderberg scores! Assist to Salmonsson (:handclap: ) and Eriksson!

It says SH2... Don't really know what that means. The time leads you to believe it was even strength, and since there were assists, it wasn't a penalty shot or anything. :dunno:

Riddarn

Pretty strange in that case, because in that case they would have had 3 forwards on ice in a 5-on-3 PP. Not very likely ;)

it says game winning goal :dunno:

They mark the game winning goals as the game goes on. So say Finland scores two goals, with Tukonen getting the second. He then has the Game Winning Goal.

It's basically the go ahead goal.

FINLAND SCORES

Mantymaa, from Hokkanen and Korhonen

Johannes Climacus
01-03-2005, 09:02 PM
Mantymaa ties it up for the Finns.

Looks like Rautio was pulled out of the game for a little bit or something? Came out about 25 seconds before the goal and then came in after the goal. Maybe they pulled the goalie in a trick play or something?

Oh... Thinking about it... There was probably a penalty on Finland but Sweden had the puck and got an extra attacker and scored. That would explain Soderberg being out there with Salmonsson and Eriksson too.

Chaos
01-03-2005, 09:02 PM
Yeah, but the IIHF site said SH2, with no record of any penalties at all.

I think Sweden scored on a delayed penalty, because if you look, you see this:

7.12 1 - 0 EQ Sweden 27. SODERBERG, Carl
(13. SALMONSSON, Johannes)
(21. ERIKSSON, Loui)
06.55 GK out Sweden 1. RAUTIO BERGUV, David

So Soderberg was probably the extra guy off the bench.

Good to see Sweden got smart and put Salmonsson-Nilsson-Eriksson out there together.

Chaos
01-03-2005, 09:30 PM
Yep Sweden scored that goal on a delayed penalty, because in the summary, you see this:

OnIce SWE 27 13 21 9 8 20
FIN 1 8 27 19 7 5

So Soderberg was the extra attacker and got the goal.

Saku Koivu was the Captian of team Finland at the WCs and the Olympics, right? I'm thinking of buying a team Finland jersey with Koivu's name on it, and want to make sure I get the customization right with a C or not.

But nice to see Nicklas Bergfors scoring two goals. Hopefully some scouts noticed him and will be picking him in the first round of the draft this summer.

I agree. Your team had more talent and was more mature too. However, Finland-Sweden games are often so unpredictable, because these teams bring out the best fighting spirit in each other. Next year both teams will be stronger!
