1.29 1 - 0 EQ Belarus 18. UGAROV, Alexey
(21. ZAKHAROV, Konstantin)

looks like we'll see another german disaster. at least it's the last game.

ziffzer in goal for germany, i wonder why they didn't put greiss in since the result of this game isn't that important.

I'm sure Doug Wilson and the rest of the Sharks brass are cursing Hofner. Ziffzer has been better though so i have no problem with it.

2-0 belarus. the iihf.com ticker sucks as always. germany had 2+10, but neither the goalscorer nor the guy who received the penalty are shown.

i could understand that decision if germany would have a chance to win that game, but without scoring a goal you won't win it, so why not give greiss that game so both goalies had around the same amount of ice-time?

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

SCOOOOOOOOOORE

CARCIOLAAAAAAA

2-1 belarus now

moritz muller had the 2+10 for checking from behind. that resulted into the 2nd goal from ugarov, again assisted by zakharov.

and finally a goal from fabio carciola, assisted by blank.

1st period is over. belarus received a tripping penalty, so we have germany with PP the first 2min into the 2nd.

Carciola is the man for Germany. Hospelt and Kink had better leave this tourney with something. They are due for a goal.

i expected carciola to do more, because i think he's the best german out there. he may not have the talent of kink and hospelt, but i think he's the most experienced guy.

and yes, kink and hospelt played a bad tournament, so they should try to get at least a point.

but all three have to play good in the DEL and then nobody will care about the WJC. carciola had a good season when he left for grand forks, so i hope he can continue that way when he's back in mannheim.

Anybody know why Andrei Kastsitsyn isn't on the line-up?

25.22 3 - 1 EQ Belarus 21. ZAKHAROV, Konstantin
(28. VOLKAU, Artsiom)
(3. KAREV, Andrei)

32.45 3 - 2 EQ Germany 19. JANZEN, Alexander
(17. KINK, Marcus)

3-2 belarus at the moment. kink with his first point of the tournament.

maybe germany can fight for a tie. they are currently leading in shots which is a major surprise.

i don't know but maybe he left already to play for hamilton. belarus is already relegated so no need to stay with the team.

3-2 belarus after 2nd. pretty close game. i'm really surprised. and the absence of a.kastsitsyn can't be the only reason. either belarus don't play as good as they can or germany is finally playing a good game.

Congrats. Not surprised, actually. The germans had something to prove here, whereas Belorus did not. It was about pride, I think.

ehm? hahaha. sure we're relegated. this game was worthless. it was about showing that german hockey isn't as bad as most think. that's all. next year we will have to fight for promotion, but i'm pretty confident.

well, belarus defeated the US but now they're dead last and that's not really a place where you want to finish a tournament. the win against the US was worthless.

I disagree. The win over the US will be a treasured memory for all those players. Not to mention an important part of their hockey history.

Worthless in what regards ??

That was the biggest moment in WJC history for Belarus.

Young kids in Belarus every where are lacing on the blades and reliving that moment on Ice rinks the world around

While young US hockey players in the states may just be putting their skates away till next year when it doesn't hurt any more ..

So I think it has lasting effects that go well beyond relegation ..

the win against the US was surely a great moment for every young kid on this team, but the relegation still hurts them a lot. next year they have to play against weaker teams again and it won't bring them further. the same with germany. they defeated belarus which is a good thing for there confidence, but still german junior hockey took a big step back.
i don't know which players of both teams will return next year, but i expect both to be back in two years. germany's team should be stronger next year for sure.

I know that in the first few years there would be some blow-outs, but to allow team like Germany to buildup and get promoted out of Div I and then loose their 19 year old players and have to play in the elite level with a new unproven crop only to get dropped again is not a way to do this.

With 12 teams, some teams like Germany, Belarus, Ukraine etc are not automatically going to drop the year after getting promoted.

i totally agree on this. i don't see any reason why the senior WC has more teams than the WJC. it should be the same.

Bulldogs play tomorrow night, no need for him to play 3 games in 3 days when one game means nothing and the Dogs sorely need some offensive help. I can only assume he didn't play though.

Depends on how you look at it and from which perspective ... Belarus is not in the same league as the top teams at this stage ..

Getting hammered game in and game out must not be fun .. Relegation next season makes them the big bullies of the POOL II so to speak and win their side and moving up again the following year or at least playing against teams more their equal is more fun I would imagine ..

I agree they lose something in the development aspect of not playing against the best, but I bet deep down relegation doesn't really bother them that much ...

I am sure the same is true for Germany as well ..
