I pulled this out of Stan Fishstick's "Blue Lines". Anyone else think diving is a growing problem in the NHL?

Colin Campbell has the perfect put-down for the Brendan Shanahan panacea party. The NHL’s warden says the insoluble problem is the “diving” epidemic.
“If they can solve that,” says Campbell, “it’ll be a success. No player should lie on the ice and then be able to play one or two more minutes. If a trainer has to come on the ice, then the player (shouldn’t) come (back) on the ice for ten minutes of playing time.” Coly is right!

It's hard to have a diving problem when there's no hockey.
Saying "diving is the problem" is a load of BS. Diving, though gutless and hated by the fans, does not really affect the on-ice product. If there wasn't so much clutch and grab in the game, and officials actually called penalties without a player lying on the ice, we wouldn't see nearly as much diving. This, like most problems in the NHL, comes back to obstruction and officiating.

but what's said by Colie is too general. A guy can't get a stinger, call it a charley horse, go down, limp off, stretch it out and come back a couple minutes later? Heck, should a guy not go down when a stick is whacked in his face opening a gash? He may, and he'll be out there as soon as he gets cleaned up.

Well, Colin Campbell identified the absolute only thing that is wrong with hockey--hockey players are just too tough. If he were a genius he'd come up with an answer instead of just complaining.
Meanwhile: I wonder if fantasy hockey has the same "problem" with holding as the NHL used to? Maybe Campbell could work on that problem while he's collecting his paycheck from the league.

there is diving and then there are players who will fight through checks, slashes ect, and not dive or fall down and no penalty will be called. i think it works both ways.

I wish diving was the biggest problem the NHL had
