Derek Armstrong has to be considered one of the best in the league when he was playing there.

Maine is a really nice place to live eh ? ;)

They had huge number in the 'A' but i wasnt born at the time so....

right now Brad Smyth is the best IMO along with Jody Gage .. both won the Les Cunningham Award ( AHL version of the Hart ) .

Could you guys tell me about Brad Smyth? He signed with Kärpät SM-Liiga team (Finnish Elite League). He has played in 2 games already (without points) but I havent had chance to see him

Brandon Smith and Peter Ferraro have to be on that list somewhere. Slaney just might be at the top, however.

As much as I hate to say it (I'm a Bears Fan :p) I have to agree with that. Ferraro too, although he has played a few NHL games I believe

I don't follow the AHL that much, so I'm just going by the Pens org. But John Slaney is probably one of the best. He almost seemed too good for the AHL while here, but couldn't show anything in the NHL.

Didn't Rob Brown got a couple of good season?

More was with the IHL than the AHL though. He spent parts of 6 seasons in the IHL(1 season with Indianapolis, 1 season with Kalamazoo, 1 with Phoenix, and 3 with Chicago) and only 2 in the AHL(Chicago).

Regardless...very impressive stats.

397 career IHL games: 203 goals, 429 assists, 639 points
139 career AHL games: 44 goals, 102 assists, 146 points

I'm a big Derek Armstrong fan but I only know him because he is on the kings. I don't follow the AHL much and especially not outside Manchester.

2000-01 AHL - Les Cunningham Plaque (MVP)
2000-01 AHL - John B. Sollenberger Trophy (Leading scorer)
2000-01 AHL - First All-Star Team
1999-00 AHL - Second All-Star Team

Total AHL 318 119 219 338 +63

If you break it down by team and look at who really meant a lot to one club and the fans, my vote goes to Marty Murray. Otherwise Slaney and White make the allstar team :)

Benoit Gratton. He's not the best, but he's a player tearing up the AHL and has yet to stay with any club at the NHL level.

He did get a shot this season though, but just played a few games before he got a concussion, and he's still out.

I'd go with either Slaney (although he played 268 NHL games), who had 369 pts in 399 games as a defenseman, or choose from this list of all-time greats:

1 Willie Marshall (1952-1972) 1375
2 Fred Glover (1948-1968) 1334
3 Jody Gage (1979-1996) 1048
4 Tim Tookey (1980-1995) 974
5 Dick Gamble (1954-1970) 892
6 Mike Nykoluk (1956-1972) 881
7 Harry Pidhirny (1948-1966) 829
8 Jim Anderson (1954-1970) 821
9 Mitch Lamoureux (1982-1999) 816
10 Bill Sweeney (1957-1969) 804

Note that none of these guys are young enough or made it far enough for me to ever see them. They are the all-time leaders, though.

Bob Wren also played for a season and a half here in St. John's and half a season in Milwaukee and Binghampton as well from 2001-2003

2001-02 St. John's Maple Leafs AHL 69 24 49 73 83 11 5 7 12 6

Augusta played here as well.

1992-93 St. John's Maple Leafs AHL 75 32 45 77 74 8 3 3 6 23
1993-94 St. John's Maple Leafs AHL 77 53 43 96 105 11 4 8 12 4
1994-95 St. John's Maple Leafs AHL 71 37 32 69 98 4 2 0 2 7

Both were great offensive threats.

And what about Dwayne Norris

1993-94 Cornwall Aces AHL 9 2 9 11 0 13 7 4 11 17
1994-95 Cornwall Aces AHL 60 30 43 73 61 12 7 8 15 4

1995-96 Baltimore Bandits AHL 62 31 55 86 16 12 6 9 15 12

But out of all of them I'd have to pick Slaney.
