IMO, he should have stayed in NA for at least another year. However, I do understand the desire to be close to home.

i've seen him play here in kassel one game and he looked solid. didn't make any mistakes and played like an average DELer. but he did nothing for the offense.

i can't argue with that. the DEL is most likely the wrong way if you want to play NHL someday.

I'm seeing him at every home game, so I can tell you a little bit ;)
Yannic centers the 4th line, most of the time with Gogulla (17yrs) and Mueller (just 18yrs). This line is working very hard in every game and makes some good combinations sadly hasn't been rewarded with a goal so far. It's really a pity becuase they do their job so very well and have great part in the successful play of the Cologne Sharks so far in this season in spite of the bad luck with injured players.
Yannic once played on the 1st with McLlwain and Roy and also did a good job.
Yannic himself plays very physically, goes for a lot of checks and even finishes them - even if he hits boards sometimes instead of his opponent ;) But trying to go for checks this often isn't seen often in the DEL.
He also plays very bold ans tries some moves every game - they aren't always successful but look nice if. And he's young, he should try such things.
I like his style of play very much and am watching him with big enjoyment. He's just a little undersized to stand up to every opponent. Sometimes it's helpful to slip between opponent and board, he should learn to take an advantage of his missing height.
I once out of fun compared Yannic with former Cologne Shark (ans LA King) Correy Millen but he can become a similar type of player if he works real hard even if never will match Millens level.
I just don't believe in him making the NHL someday like his brother . That's another thing here in Germany, there are many many people who compare him with - or even take him for (just sseing the surname) - Dennis and that's just a thing you can't do.

isn't it a general problem that many hockey fans here see an upcoming NHLer in every younger player?
i like what i've seen from seidenberg and i'm pretty sure he'll be a good DELer and there's nothing wrong about it. the DEL needs more german players on a good level so the teams can really cut some sucking canadians.
i'm not even sure that yannick will be a regular on team germany in the future, but he could be a nice depth player for them. and i think that's a pretty good thing.

oh...hmm...is it me or is the eishockey news getting better? they tend you say the truth more often. schultz was named worst lockout player alive and the interview with joe gibbs, manager of the huskies, was a milestone. ;)

i just browsed through their website (www.eishockeynews.de) and found nothing about it, so i guess not. but this paper is worth a buy. you will find some interesting news not just about the DEL but more about the 2nd-tier league as well as the 3rd-tier and sometimes it's just funny to see where former DELers play these days. :)
rbeeler 12-15-2004, 04:58 PM Speaking of old DEL'ers, I saw that Markus Wieland on the front of the webpage. Why did he drop off so quickly? He was one of the youngest guys at the '96 World Cup.
Hellström 12-16-2004, 02:32 AM Wieland never progressed that well and made some bad decision on joining different teams. He did play supber till 1997, then he couldn´t live up to the expectations, although he´s been still solid at that time.
Instead of moving to a team where he´d get some good minutes, he moved to Mannheim in 1999-2000 where he only saw very limited icetime and in the PO´s he´s been a healthy scratch (POs didn´t last that long, thanks to Mr.Valentine).
After that he didn´t stay in the DEL and moved down to the 1.Bundesliga where he´s been stuck since that.
His make or break thing was 1999-2000, where he´d better chosen a team offering quality minutes.

Kai Fischer(born 1977), who was drafted by Colorado, i think in 1996, was awful this season in the third league(Berliner SC). Now he is playing for Hügelsheim(Oberliga Süd).....
brian 12-18-2004, 10:07 AM It is too bad that Wieland never panned out he seemed to have everything going for him as a junior and made his national team debut at age 18, but by age 22 he was out of the national team pool. He is 28 so there is still time for him to go back to the DEL and be a good depth player, but a return to the national team would be a dream.
