DynamoAO 11-16-2004, 01:17 PM How's about listing your current equiptment and giving a quick review of your likes/dislikes about each piece...
Helmets:
Nike 0004-I've got a large melon, so this lightly padded, very roomy helmet fits me well. It's not too lightly padded that it is dangerous(alot of Pros wear it), but certainly not as protective as one of the newer Bauer 5000, 8000 models
Nike Quest. - Ahhh my bike helmet...errr well it feels like it. The padding is hard as a rock, however, it is very well padded in comparison to the 4000/0004.
Sheild/Cages-
Itech Tinted Pro Wave Visor on the 0004 - The nose cut on this visor is perfect for breathability and no fog. The tinted does reduce some glare from arena lights.
Nike/Bauer FM4000 on the Quest - Not much to say. Your basic chrome cage. Pretty good visibility.
Elbow Pads -
Bauer 2000 - Used them primarily for roller hockey. Worked OK there, nothing special. Would occasionally slip if you didnt have the bicep protector strapped TIGHTLY.
Easton Synergy - The benchmark in elbow pads. I prefer them over any other pad on the market for many reasons. One is that it is a 3 piece pad, so it flexes in two areas giving unbelieveable mobility. The pad never slips. It has three straps to hold it secure and silicon gripping on the bicep and slash guards. Speaking of slash guard, the thing is so low profile, you'd think it was flimsy, but man the composite in it is unbelieveable. You could take a Zdeno Chara-like hack and not feel a thing. Gen IV Air Bladder donut on the inner elbow also works wonders. Go ahead, take a fall, the bladder feels like a cushion on your elbow.
Shin -
Bauer 2000 - Ehhhhh It's ok I guess. Used it mostly for roller hockey, so again, it served its purpose. Wouldnt think of taking them to the ice however.
Nike V10 - At first, I hated them. The non-elastic straps can be a hassle at first, however, once you get used to them, you realize they keep that pad SNUG to your leg. When your suiting up in the lockerroom, you may think the pag is clunky, when you step on the ice, you realize the tapered design is great. Very solid protection all around on this pad. Not sure I'd select it for a VERY HIGH level of competition, but I've blocked many a shots in my adult league and felt nothing.
Gloves -
Bauer Vapor X, XV, XX(I'll group em all together) - My favorite gloves on the market. The X line is your entry level into the Vapor line. For the $50-60 dollars its a pretty fine glove, I'd suggest it for open hockey or a casual non-competitive league. However it can take its hacks. The XV line is my favorite. The cuff is adjustable, which allows for a tighter fit(which really isnt needed as they are probably in the top 10% in tightness on the glove market). This pad has better foam than the X line and includes the Nike Dri-Fit materials for helping keep the glove dry during games. The XX, well, its the top of the line Vapor glove, however I do not think it is worth the extra $40-60 over the XV.
Mission M-1 - Fits like a glove. However, I prefer a segmented glove like the vapor line over a "rolled" glove like the M-1 and CCM Tacks. The rolls are good for flash protection, however they make the glove feel a bit bulky. If you can find these gloves on closeout at your local shop, definetly give them a go, just dont schill out top dollar for them.
Ice Skates -
CCM Vector 7.0 - THE. Skate. I loveeee this skate. The CCM F-I-T system gives a "gapless" fit just as the description entails. Very lightweight. Very protective. The new "Lace Lock" technology is amazing for lacing up your skates, gone is the dreaded cuts and blisters from trying to make your skates very tight. In is the locking technology which grabs hold of the laces and doesnt let go. The Plastic toe cap is good for keeping the skate in great shape, performance wise and appearance wise.
Bauer Vapor 10(not the X...these are the old school vapors) - They didnt fit me. I have a wider foot, so I had to squeeze my feet into these. Not exactly what I like. However, they are also very light and definetly protective. If they fit your foot, not a bad skate.
Roller Hockey Skates:
Mission D3 - I tried on the D1 and did not like them. So I went with these babies. Great inline skate. Fit is fine and does the job protection wise in games. Not much more to say about roller hockey skates as protection and weight really arent key factors(to me at least).
Mission RL - Your basic mission design from the early days to now. It has no special boot look like the DNA series and new Helium line, it just went with the flow from the beginning. Pretty good skate.
Shoulder - No need anymore.
Pants - Mission Warp. Paid $30 for them, pretty darn good bang for the buck if I say so myself. Theyve got a high back protection and a nice belly pad in the front.
Sticks -
Mission M-1 - Used these for roller hockey, however they are definetly top of the line ice sticks as well. The blue color is a pretty nice color. The weight was also pretty good. I however could not find a blade curve that I liked.
Bauer XX - Love them. The sticks are verryyy lightweight and come in many blade patters. I prefer the P88/Lindros. The wavebridge blade gives the stick a nice feel when stick handling and shooting.
Easton Typhoon(shaft) - Only a $50 shaft, so you cannot expect much. However with a shaft, you are able to feel out every company's pattern and pop them into the stick. Overall the Typhoon shaft is very durable and not TOO heavy.
Toonces 11-16-2004, 01:33 PM Cool thread, I'll weigh in.
Stick: I use a Louisville Tri-core, which I really like. I need the stiffest stick I can find and this one certianly fits the bill. I use a Easton Fiber Pro blade, Sakic pattern. I don't even think they make the Fiber Pro anymore, but I bought a case of 12 about a year and a half back and I'm down to only 2. I like the sticks with re-inforcement on the bottem since I beat the hell out of my sticks.
Helmet: I just got a Bauer 8000. I cracked my old 5000, and I needed a Blue one for School, so I figured I'd try it out. I wear some Oakley half visor, one of those pro-cut ones.
Skates: Bauer is the only thing that fits me so I have a pair of 7000's that are almost two years old. They are starting to go so I gotta get a pair of those 8090's and break them in.
Shoulders: I got a Jofa 8800 from about a year back. Great protection and mobility. I love to hit and get hit, so these to the job.
Elbows: I have a pair of CCM EP600's from abouy 12 years back. Best elbow pad I've ever seen so I have had no reason to get new ones. They have held up great for over a decade.
Shins: I got a pair of Jofa 5090's from a few years back. Great pads.
Pants: I'm wearing a Bauer 5000 pant, the one that is supposed to have some sort of Gel in it. Great pants, but the zipper on the back of the legs broke within the first month so I only use the velcro. Bad design on the zipper, but I love the pants.
Gloves: I'm using a pair of Louisville TPS's that are a few years old. I love those gloves, and am on my third pair of them.
That's about it.
Brodeur 11-16-2004, 01:41 PM My goalie equipment:
32" Heaton 10 Senior Pads, Red/White/Red
Heaton 10 Glove/Blocker, Red/White/Red
CCM mask with Brodeur paint
Heaton 6 chest protector
Itech 9.8 goalie pants
Vaughn knee/thigh guards
Itech plastic neck protector
usmhuskies 11-16-2004, 01:58 PM Synergy with a with a Modano heel blade: great for wrist and snap shot as well as saucers passes and the occasional cross check... :)
DynamoAO 11-16-2004, 02:04 PM Synergy with a with a Modano heel blade: great for wrist and snap shot as well as saucers passes and the occasional cross check... :)
Do you play for USM??
Frank Drebin 11-16-2004, 02:32 PM Cool thread.
Goal Pads - 35" Vaughn Velocity 7000 - New this year.
Helmet - Louisville TPS Senior model. Black with chrome cage. New this year. With Plexiglass throat protector. :teach:
Glove - Vaughn Vision 5500. New this year
Blocker - Vaughn Velocity 7000. Ordered in, will be in around Xmas.
Skates - Bauer 3000's. New this year.
Can, pants and chest protecter are all about 8 years old and will need to be updated within the year.
I'll vouch for anyone who says pads are designed to give the goalie and unfair advantage. The difference between these new pads and my old ones is unreal. I'm 6' and used to wear a 32" Louisville "butterfly" pad, if anyone remembers those. The velocity's took a bit of getting used to, but the 5-hole is virtually gone. :yo:
Oh well, I need all the help I can get.
Brodeur 11-16-2004, 02:49 PM Cool thread.
Goal Pads - 35" Vaughn Velocity 7000 - New this year.
I'm jealous. If I had oodles of cash laying around, I'd be looking at 35" Heaton Z's. Seems like all the hip people are going with the Velocity pads though.
prevail 11-16-2004, 02:50 PM Sweet
Helmet: Bauer HH4000M, it's comfy, not as stlish as the 5000 but it gets the job done, also I put a chrome cage on for extra tweeks, gotta look blingin' ;)
Gloves: Easton ultra lite with wrist wrap, one of the best gloves I've ever worn.
Shoulder: Easton extreme, they're not the biggest shoulder pads but I don't feel a thing when plowing my way through.
Neck: Nike crap deluxe, piece of crap but wtv it's a neckguard, digs into my helmet.
Elbow: Easton extreme again, they fall down sometimes so you have to adjust them sometimes and they bulge out a lot but otherwise, I'm really used to them now.
Pants: Flite, really comfortable and moneoverable.
Shin: Jofe super bulge extreme which fall down with only one strap but will penetrate any slapshot from ur calf to ur foot, ankles included!
Skates: CCM Tacks 552, who needs 800$ skates? These work perfect!
Stick: Easton Ultra Lite with Jofa Sedin blade (meaning to change it soon), apparently Sedin has a huge curve and can't take a slapshot with this blade!
If anyone plays Midget A against Pierrefonds, you may find urself playing a fellow HFer :D
Frank Drebin 11-16-2004, 03:14 PM I'm jealous. If I had oodles of cash laying around, I'd be looking at 35" Heaton Z's. Seems like all the hip people are going with the Velocity pads though.
Hip..ha. When I was trying on some newer pads, they all seemed so different from what I was used to. I actually wore a pair of Heaton 10 34" for a couple of games. They were the senior line, not the pro like Brodeur, Kipper, Belfour etc wear. They were just too different.
The first time I put on the Vaughn's I really liked them. So I put oodles of cash on my visa and haven't looked back. :joker:
PanthersRule96 11-16-2004, 03:16 PM Helmet: Bauer 8000 (Great helmet)
Gloves: Bauer Vapor XX (Best gloves ever)
Pants: Easton Synergy (very protective and comfortable)
Elbow: Nike V-12 Quest (very flexible, protective, light)
Shoulders: Bauer 8000 (Great lightweight, cool protection)
Shins: Bauer Vapor 10 (02 model), nice pads and you can adjust them too.
Skates: CCM Vector Pros (the suck, sh****est skates I've ever had)
Stick: Easton Stealth (too too light. good power, crappy slap shot, broke on the last day of the warranty so I'm using a Bauer Vapor XX right now which is better untill the stealth comes back. If you're looking to get a stick, get the new Bauer Vapor XXX. It's light but not too light at 425 grams, and has all the features of a synergy only I like Bauer sticks better.
I'm getting Bauer Vapor XXX Skates when they come out next month. They are sick.

My Heaton 10s are the seniors, so they don't have the extra padding around the knee that the newer pads seem to have. The Z's were pretty nice, both the pros and the seniors....they come with the extra knee stacks and thigh boards standard.
Haven't tried on the Vaughn's yet, but I've had 3 friends get them within the last year and they seem to be thrilled with them. I tried on the Koho 580s, and they didn't feel quite right.
There's an auction on eBay for a custom pair of Heaton Z Pro 35"+1" with matching blocker/glove for $825. You know you're a hockey junky when you think to yourself "That's not a bad price at all."

Do you (or anyone else) have any tips on breaking in my catcher. I don't get on the ice as often as I'd like, so I've been laying the glove on the floor face down with weight on the back to "open" it up. Then pretty much bouncing a tennis ball around practicing catching with it.
Any tips?
DynamoAO 11-16-2004, 03:38 PM I'm getting Bauer Vapor XXX Skates when they come out next month. They are sick.
Not if they still have perforated steel. I dont get why companies insist on "perforated/scalloped" steel. It doesnt save that much weight and if it did, the steel is acctually the only part of the skates that hits the ice, so the weight does not matter. All Perf steel does is break and potentially break the holder with it.
Frightened Inmate #2 11-16-2004, 03:45 PM My equipment is all three year old crap that does the job. The shin pads were made by some company that since went out of business, and I am sure they actually offer the same protection as I would get if I taped a couple pads of paper to my shins. In terms of pants I am currently wearing ones that were made my Bauer, and offer **** all for protection, and I have a theory that if they ever were hit my anything would result in them shattering into many different pieces which would then likely pierce my skin, and result in a worse injury. My skates, are an insult to everything that has been posted here. I got them around 5 years ago, and well they were allright then, these days though I think tube skates, or those molded plastic ones that I had as a kid would work better. The blade falls out sometimes.... I will continue this later. But this thread has made me dispise my equipment even more.
Habsfan 32 11-16-2004, 03:55 PM Pads: Sher-Wood 7000 Sr
Glove: Sher-Wood 9000 Sr
Blocker:Sher-Wood 9000 Sr
Skates: Koho 460 (Best Goalie skate ever)
Sticks: Bauer 4000 Cujo curve
Shoulder Pads: Brown and a New Vaughn one
Pants: Koho
Jock: Bauer
Labs 4 Vezina 11-16-2004, 04:15 PM Pants: Mission M-1, they are nice, but they are falling apart on me.
Skates: Bauer Vapors, can't remember which ones specificly.
Shins: Easton Ultralites, They are good.
Shoulder: Bauer 2000's. Not very protective, but I like them because it helps me move around quicker instead of a hefty set of pads.
Elbows: Bauer 5000's, really good.
Helmet: Bauer 4000. I like it more than the new ones..
Sticks: XN10, and a Response.

I broke in my old one by playing catch with my brother using a baseball (and eventually a softball when it was able to stay open). I don't know if I'd do the same thing with the stuff I'll be getting soon, though. I play often enough that it will be broken in soon.
Right now I have new 32" TPS Bionic II pads, a Heaton chest/arm protector (I think-- my old one might have been a Heaton), old school Bauer skates, itech mask, wicked old Heaton catcher and I believe a Vic blocker-- both of which I've had since 1996 and are waaaaaay too big for my hands and have no padding in them. My new catcher/blocker that are on order are custom done TPS Bionic to match the pads-- now with NHL size catcher/blocker, but small enough to fit my hands. I've been losing my catcher every time a shot goes off it, so I figured it was time for new stuff.
ALF AmericanLionsFan 11-16-2004, 08:53 PM helmet- ccm
cage/shield- itech concept 2 giving me fits by fogging up
elbow- Bauer 300
shin - Bauer 300
pants- ccm tacks
gloves - ccm 1152
skates - ccm prolite 3
stick - easton e flex
shoulder - easton extreme
Accord 11-16-2004, 09:44 PM Helmet: CCM 1052 - The "memory foam" is absolutely horrible and paper thin, very little padding inside the helmet and it feels like you're wearing a solid rock on your head. I get headaches after long skate sessions, it's a terrible helmet and I made the very bad mistake of getting caught up in all the hype with the memory foam and it felt good when I tried it on in the store, it only starts to hurt after 30 mins or so of wearing it... DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS HELMET! I'd buy a different helmet but I don't want my 80 bucks to go to waste, lol.
Shield: Itech half shield aviator (forgot the model name)
Shouler: Sher-Wood traditional - I don't need anything big and fancy, I play in a no-checking league.
Elbow: Koho 4420 - very lightweight and mobile.
Shin: Louisville TPS Contour - Tons of protection, very lightweight.
Pants: Tackla Air 9000 - The most comfortable pants on earth, I had them custom tailored for me.
Gloves: Eagle X70 - They're Eagle's, need I say more?
Skates: CCM Pro Tacks - Best skate i've every owned, i've got a weird foot and the Pro Tacks are one of the few skates that actually fit me comfortably.
Stick: Mission M2 composite shaft with various different blades, i'm still trying to find a blade I like.
Pensfan86 11-16-2004, 10:10 PM Nice thread...im not exactly sure of some of my stuff, but heres what I got
Helmet: Bauer 5000...easily the best looking helmet on the market in my opinion, which is sadly why i like it so much, lol
Gloves: I actually use two pairs, because my highschool team and my AAA team are completely different colors. For highschool I use graf g5's...great gloves and i got htem for like $50 too, and for my travel team, I have Eagle X51's. The grafs are newer, but have held up much better htan the Eagle's did, as the palm basically ripped up a month after buying them, and the repalming did nearly the same.
Shoulder pads: Jofa 8400s. Nice pads, but i ripped the bubble part off of them because i dont like alot of padding.
Elbow Pads: Jofas as well. I love these things, they are really big, and provide great protection for your arms and wrists.
Pants: Bauer Vapor 8 girdle, with an easton shell. I have had these pants for like 5 yrs now...if you cant tell already, vapor 8s were the hot thing when i got them. Anyway, I absolutely love these things, even though theyre falling apart now. The funny thing is, they have been out for damn near forever, and people still look at me like im wearing a thong or something when i put them on, and usually say, "WHAT THE **** ARE THOSE???"
Shin Pads: Bauer Vapor 10s. These pads have lasted me because they have the adjustable thing at the bottom. They took forever for me to get used to them, but I love them now, they make my legs look sweet.
Skates: Vapor 20s. Anyone who says skates dont make the player didnt wear these. I love everything about them. From when i first picked them up and almost hit myself in the face because they were so light, to when it took me roughly half of a practice to get used to them. I dont know how they can make Vapor 30s, because these are seriously perfect in my opinion.
Stick: Whatever I grab, lol...literally though. I have to use something with a Spezza curve...Bourque if that isnt available. Right now, I am using a franklin shaft my cousin gave me 2yrs ago. He plays for Sacred Heart's D1 team, and apparently those are the sticks he they gave out. I had an Easton Grip, but that broke after about 6 weeks, so I am vowing to stick to crappy shafts.
Sticks - Easton Synergy Rubber & TPS Response Rubber
Skates - Graf 609
Shin Pads - Bauer Vapor
Jock - Itech ( most important equipment, holds your socks and protects your boys)
Gloves - Velocity, awesome gloves better than my old eagles
Pants - Itech
Shoulder Pads - Easton Ultralite
Elbow Pads - Easton Air
Helmet - Bauer 5000
Raven25 11-16-2004, 11:20 PM Bauer -Supreme

Elbow - EP1000
Shins - SP 3000 Select
Skates - 5000
Hespeler - Classic Lite (the Classic Lite line is excellent light-weight gear for fleet-footed recreational players like myself)
Classic Lite Shoulders - a modern version of a '70s style shoulder-pad, some thin chest pads and a pair of caps with thin plastic upper-arm guards. IMO so much better than the bulky gladiator-style shoulder pads most companies are pushing right now. Gary Roberts wears these pads
Classic Lite pants
Classic Lite 1000 series gloves
Itech Pro Wave straight cut visor
Louisville TPS rubber shaft with the TPS Brendan Morrow Blade (Standard Heel)
wicked stick!!

Hehe, a visor cant be a Pro Wave and be straight cut ;) .
Aerolanche 11-17-2004, 12:52 AM Helmet: Olie - Switching to Itech 8000
Throat Guard: None - May use Eagle-Butterfly if I play Junior next season

Skates: Bauer Supreme 3000
Sticks: Bauer Surpeme 7000 - 2 with Khabibulin Curves, 2 with Pl.31 Curves

Gloves: CCM 852. Traditional style gloves, I like it that way.
Skates: CCM 1052. Always preferred CCM skates due to my wide feet.
Pants: Easton Octane. Might be cheap but gets the job done.
Shin Pads: Jofa SG7500. Nice fit and works just fine.
Elbow Pads: Old Kohos, they still get the job done for me.
Shoulder Pads: Jofa SP9700, always trusted Jofa when it comes to being protective.
Stick: Easton Synergy (unknown pro pattern) and some wood sticks.
Papadice 11-17-2004, 08:19 AM Pads: 33" Hespeler Sentry GR (New this summer)
Glove: Simmons Matrix (I LOVE THIS GLOVE! New this summer) http://www.donsimmons.com/product.asp?id=233
Blocker: Sherwood SherLite 10 (New this summer)
Those are all in White with black and silver trim... Despite the hodge podge of brand names, the gear looks great together...
Stick: CCM H6 Broduer
Mask: Itech Profile Pro Kevlar 960 (Black)
Pants: Itech 4.8 Seniors
Upper Body: Vaughn VP 6000 Legacy
Cup (Very Important :teach: ): Vaughn Vision 5500
Skates: Bauer 4000 (OLD OLD OLD!) But great skates...
I have a new pair of skates at home that I got a WICKED deal on but despite it being a wicked deal, they are a touch too small and I've tried stretching them and everything and I can't get used to them... so time to sell them... I can't remember the brand name for the life of me... It's not Bauer or CCM or Nike or Graf or any of the big names... But they are very good skates... DAMN what's the name... it'll come to me eventually...
I love my glove, and the blocker I'm starting to really like... The pads are growing on me (as much as a cheap set can)... I wore Louisville Butterfly pads through high school and junior, and right up until this summer, with the exception of a 1 year failed attempt at trying Bauer Reactor 5s... so out of the last 12 years, I've worn Louisville Butterfly pads for 11 years (2 different pairs)... Then I go and try these cheap @ss Hespelers... what a change... For a few weeks I DETESTED them... but I'm starting to get used to them a bit more... they are still cheap as hell though...
Papadice 11-17-2004, 08:39 AM HAHA!!!!!!!!! I GOT IT!!!!
I knew if I wasted enough time at work today thinking of it I'd come up with the brand name.... :handclap:
The skates I just bought are Riedell's... Not a big name in the hockey skate industry but for figure skating it is a very well known name... The great advantage to their goalie skate is that the blade is actually a touch taller, so it allows a butterfly goaltender more stability and control because as you're going down, it takes longer for your blade to lose contact with the ice when your pad takes over... so you can basically control your up and down movements easier (or so i hear)... but the damn things don't fit... i like a tight skate (size 8 1/2 shoe and size 7 1/2 skate) but these are a size 7... i took them in to be baked... no luck... i tried having them stretched... no luck... ARGH!!! They are $400 skates that I got on a clearance for $100... I couldn't pass it up... and the damn things won't fit!!!!!:banghead:
Speed Demon 11-17-2004, 03:15 PM Stick: TPS XN10, Whip Flex, Brendl Curve. This stick is awesome. It has definitely improved my slap shot.
Skates: Graf G35s with Light Speed Blades. Undeniable performance and comfort, they are very light too. They will burn a hole in the pocket though.
Gloves: Eagle X70s. All black. As stated in a previous post, "They're Eagle's, need I say more?"
Helmet: Bauer 5000. Comfortable, protective and it looks great.
Neckguard: Itech.
Elbow Pads: Some $80.00 Itech ones and I hate them. Too restricting, so I am going head over to Canadian Tire and pick up something more mobile.
Shoulder Pads: Bauer Supreme 3000s. Awesome shoulder pads.
Pants: Nike Quest 2s. Very mobile and protective. Love 'em.
Shin Pads: Bauer Supreme 3000s. Great shin pads.
I also use Underarmour socks and they are awesome.
Malefic74 11-18-2004, 02:51 PM This is an interesting thread. I can't remember the actual model numbers of all my stuff as I am stuck at work, but if anyone would like to know I can dig it up.
Mask: Itech, black paint, black bars.
Chest Protector: Vaughn Legacy series (bought in 98)
Pants: Heaton pants. Ancient. All the eyelets for the laces at the front have torn out, of the 6 rivets for suspenders I have 2 left. These pants have knee protectors that extend out of the bottom of each leg. The velcro on both straps is long gone. I love these things to death and will NOT part with them.
Pads: Vaughn Vision. Bought these used for $400. They were maybe 1 season old. They are the first incarnations of the Vision probably circa about '98 or so. Great pads.
Glove: Brian's Thief. The one with the double pocket. Purchased with a matching blocker about 9 years ago.
Skates: I love these more than my pants. When I was a kid my feet grew every single year. Always breaking in new skates. Finally when I was 16 they stopped. I bought a pair of Bauer 2000s and one blade replacement and a few new rivets later I still wear them to this day. These skates are 15 years old and are just now starting to look like it.
Sticks: Ugh. I go through tons of these to the point where I refuse to spend more than $55 on one. Currently I'm using a Koho and it's not bad. The only sticks I won't use are Sher-Woods (I've broken 4 of them just shooting the puck) and Bauer because their curves suck. I used to strictly be a Louisville only guy, but I've come to the conclusion that expensive sticks break just as fast as the cheapies and I can't justify the extra cost just because an NHL goalie has his name on the shaft.
Officer Lahey my advice for breaking in your mitt is to find either a softball or baseball (personal preference) and a skate lace or velcro strap of some kind and tie the ball into the palm of the glove after every game. I've been using this system for 12 years and 4 gloves and it works like a charm every time.
MikeC44 11-18-2004, 04:10 PM Helmet: Itech HC95. I don't like the hard foam in the concussion-proof helmets.
Visor: Itech HS22
I also have a Bauer 4000 and a 1Excel Modified Aviator, but neither of the visors fit well on the Bauer helmet. There was no gap between the visor and the front of the helmet which meant it was really close to my face, which I didn't like, and they fogged up quite a bit because there was no room for air circulation.
Shoulder pads: Not sure. Some old pair of Jofa's I stole from my Dad. I'm in a non-checking league and they're not too bulky.
Elbow: Vics that I've had for 10 years. The straps are shot so if I don't have my gloves on to hold them up, they fall off. They'd be great if I was a goon.
Gloves: Also Vics, 550 I believe. They're about 5 years old and the palms are going. But I'm not a big fan of the new gloves nowadays that are tight and pre-molded to the way they think you should have your hand positioned. I'd like to get a pair of Eagles, but I'm too cheap.
Pants: Easton Air 4000. Pretty basic.
Shin: Jofa. Not sure which model.
Skates: I have a pair of old Vapor 8s that I love. They were the top of the line 6 years ago. But they are finally giving out this year. I like the look of the Bauer 8090, and they're lighter than the Bauer 8000. Does anyone have any comments on these skates?
DynamoAO 11-18-2004, 04:51 PM Hmmmm my Bauer/Nike 4000 + Itech HS22 is my favorite combo of my current head/face protection. Excellent vision, perfect fit and no fog without spray. It fits kinda close to my face, but thats the way I like it. I wear it for protection, not because I have to.

Used to have one when they fit my head....i seemed to grow out of them :X
Malefic74 11-20-2004, 02:03 AM Speaking of equipment has there ever been an uglier helmet than the Mission Carbster?
Yes there was. The Cooper XL-7. The one with no screws that you loosened or tightened by flipping open slats on the side. Horrible. Not too safe either as I recall.
PanthersRule96 11-20-2004, 11:50 AM Speaking of equipment has there ever been an uglier helmet than the Mission Carbster?
I don't think it was that bad.
I really hate the way ITECH helmets looks. Same with the standard CCM's. The newer ones are nice, but the standard ones are bad. JOFA old ones are ugly I always though like Selanne's etc... The one Jagr uses is OK tho. It's the one they use at the WJC, they're popular there.
Gretzky's and Messier's helmets were awful.
I have one, but I don't think the HH8000 from Bauer looks good. It only looks good with a half visor IMO. Ovechkin had that at the WC, half visor on an 8000. It looked good.
Reebok has nice looking Helmets coming out.

Reebok has nice looking Helmets coming out.I love the itech helmets...SO comfy...and I have the old Gretzky helmet that I wear for 1 tourny a year...haha..it's good times. It's like scrum cap basically...minus the padding...hahahah...
I currently have a Bauer 4000, lovely helmet. Quite comfy, and probably amnog the best looking out there.
and I also think the Bauer 8000 is among the coolest looking helmets around - agreed that the Reebok helmet looked pretty good too....but the Jofa's that Selanne and Jagr wear I do not like one bit at all...haha
So we basically have completely differeing opinions! OH well
markov` 11-20-2004, 01:24 PM Sweet
Actually, I play Midget A for Dolbeau-Mistassini. We aren't in the same league but in the same province... dans quel tournoi tu vas?
PanthersRule96 11-20-2004, 01:33 PM I love the itech helmets...SO comfy...and I have the old Gretzky helmet that I wear for 1 tourny a year...haha..it's good times. It's like scrum cap basically...minus the padding...hahahah...

Well, I have an 8000 and it's an awesome helmet and IMO it looks good with a visor. Not without it though. I have a 4000 for reffing with and it's nice. Also a pro aviator cut oakley.
Itech helmets are so so ugly IMO. Bauer look nice.
And I do dislike that old JOFA. I just got so used to seeing it that I stopped complaining. The new Jofa are nice, but Selanne's and Forsberg's old one from like 4 years ago and Alfredsson's old one are all really ugly. The 5000 IMO is the best looking helmet and the Vapor XXX's are the best looking skates LOL.
markov` 11-20-2004, 01:40 PM For those who are experts in these domains... here are my stick and skates:
Stick: Easton Ultra-Lite with a Kaberle CCM 1052 blade (45$ blade... not so good)
Skates: Easton Octane.
Since I had my new blade, I can't slap shot. Is it just me or that blade is terrible ? Also, I don't know about my skates, but it bothers me... I am a worst player than I was before.
Leopold Stotch 11-20-2004, 02:40 PM Helmet: Bauer 8000-this helmet is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. It may be expensive, but IMO, it's the best bang for your buck helmet out there.
Cage: One of them new Bauer ones(not sure on the number)-This isn't shiny or black like the Itech ones, but rather a nice grey-silver color, so there's better visibility.
Neck: One of them regular Itech ones-it works just fine, but I don't wear it often anyways. The refs don't notice as it is.
Shoulder: Older Itech ones-not sure what number, but they're decent. A bit too small, so the velcro comes off sometimes, but they'll last another year.
Elbow: Older Koho ones-they're a bit old, but they're very flexible, so I have alot of arm reach.
Gloves: The new CCM ones-I won a whole bunch of new equipment in a CCM contest, and this was one piece of it. Very flexible, and they have palm grip so they don't wear down and I don't have to put tape on my stick for grip.
Pants: The new CCM ones-Like I said, I won a whole bunch of CCM equipment, but not pants. I just bought them to have all CCM outer equipment(since stopped using the CCM helmet)
Shin: The NHL-approved Koho ones-They're the best shin pads out there IMO, so it was a no brainer to get them. Can barely feel any slashes or pucks hit against my shins.
Skates: Newer CCM ones-Not the new Vector ones, but the newest ones before that. Very light and have improved my skating very much. Won them in the same contest as the gloves.
Stick: Vector-Not the new Vector, but the newest one before that. Won it in the same contest as the gloves and skates. Very light and very powerful. I have extra long reach which really helps my playmaking ability. Took all the decals off to be original. :D

Gloves - Velocity, awesome gloves better than my old eagles
Pants - Itech
Shoulder Pads - Easton Ultralite
Elbow Pads - Easton Air

In your opinion what stick is better the tps/response rubber or Easton/synergey?
Helmet: Itech (forget witch kind)

BooBlancRouge 11-22-2004, 11:06 PM Awesome thread. Here I go.
Mask: Itech 3000 (Red Dog, and I'm not 100% sure of the model)
Chest Protector: Brian's Altra (Bought this off a friend for fifty bucks, awesome chest protector)
Blocker: Vaughn Velocity 7000 (A more than suitable upgrade from my ancient Vaughn T1000)
Glove: Vaughn T1000 (This thing is finally falling apart on me but I love the pocket)
Pants: Brian's (not sure of model)
Pads: 34" Heaton 10's (I got a great deal on these, super light but as a butterfly goalie, I don't feel they're the best for the job)
Skates: Bauer Supreme 1000 (another great deal, awesome pair of skates)
Sticks: Koho 590 Roy pattern (Nothing but for me)
I eventually plan to buy pads that are more suitable for a butterfly goalie. I'm torn between the Koho 585 and the Velocities. Anyone care to help me make my decision easier?
asilvermtzion 11-22-2004, 11:50 PM interesting thread...
helmet-ccm something from about 5 years ago w/ a 1excel half shield (helmet hurts my head sometimes...meh)
shoulder-sherwood classics (2 seasons ago i saw several shoulder injuries...so now i wear pads)
elbow- jofa something from a few years ago (i love these things...they never move)
glove- easton z-air from 2001 (decent enough...i think they are about a half a size too big and its messed with my feel for the puck...i want some eagles next)
pants-easton 4000air (awesome pants)
shin-easton air from 2002
skates-ccm 1052
stick-tps response-nash pattern (ill be very sad when this breaks)

I'm not familiar with the Koho's, but I've been using my velocitys for about 10 games now, and they are awesome for a butterfly goalie. I like to have my pads tight to my legs, and they still face out when I go down into the butterfly. Also they have the *cheater* knee guards that close up the 5 hole. Illegal in the NHL, but not illegal in bush league. :D
bleedgreen 11-23-2004, 12:44 PM helmet bauer 4000 - really comfy without being bulky, came with chrome cage which i took off to ref in - and never put back on. im not very bright.
elbows bauer vapor 6 or 8 - great protection but entirely too bulky. im gonna try a jofa pair next.
shins bauer 2000 - they work and were cheap. retrospectively - cheap isnt the way to go on shins. i might keep them for roller because they are comfy, but im gonna go back to jofa's high end pad when i have the xtra cash. they were great - i wore em till fell apart.
pants ccm lower end pant. im not picky on pants as long as they fit
skates ccm 1152 - i know a few guys who work in shops so i got hooked up with these for a little over 200. they are awesome for that price. ive always been a ccm tack guy, though.
gloves franklin 9500 - yeah, i know....franklin. these are pretty sweet gloves though - pretty light. their high end glove is affordable compared to others and the leather breaks in just the same. i hate new gloves - i need mine so broken in my fingers are actually on the stick. i wont replace these until my whole hand fits through the palm. i cant feel the stick with new gloves.
stick sherwood 9950 (leclair) for ice. innovative novious with modano blade for roller and backup ice. the novious is the best shaft ive had and was great for both - i just love wood and have to use it from time to time on ice. leclair pattern has a really low lie thats tricky to get used to (4.5) buts its a sweet toe curve. i prefer the sherwood 7000, but im 6'4 215 and they just dont last long enough for me.
HeHateMeFrisbee 11-24-2004, 12:01 PM Since im a primarily inline player, I'll do an inline list.
Helmet: Bauer 5000 SE w/ Itech straigt small tinted visor (Great combo, light, protective, nothing more i can ask for)
Elbow Pads: Sherwood 950 classics (awsome pads, fit right, and protect better, i like the older style elbow pads)
Shin Pads: Mission Matrix(I love these pads, they have a shin sleeve and two straps, exaqctly what i want in a pad.)
Inline pants: S7ven 950 pants. (The best they make, i like them better than my m-1s.)
Gloves: Vapor 15 customs. Great glove, not sure if I like these or my Custom Sande 720's better. Either glove is a great one to own.
Skates: V12 boot, with red star chassis, Dynasty wheels. (A $900 skate that i paid $200 for. Not only do i love the price, the boot feels like a slipper.)
Sticks: Inno Tru-1, Inno 1100, Inno Commander w/ inno blade, Vector shaft, XN10, Response + shaft, Response shaft, T-Flex, Easton z-carbon woodie, Ballistikl shaft.
Out of those, I only use the Tru-1 and the Commander. The others are ok, and all the dhafts have various wood or carbon blades.
SedinFan 11-24-2004, 03:41 PM Skates: Bauer Vapors (2003 model)
Stick: CCM Vector
Shin Pads: Bauer
Shoulder Pads: Hespeler
Pants: CCM
Elbow Pads: Easton
Helmet: Bauer
Gloves: Itech
As you see, I follow a strict pattern of what I can and can't wear...no not really. It's all good to me.
Sakic19 11-24-2004, 08:04 PM Great Thread...
Helmet: Bauer 4000 with Oakley visor
Elbow: Koho midrange
Shin: Jofa midrange
Breezers: Easton Extreme
Gloves: Nike Quest 2
Stick: Synergy Grip Lidstrom and newly acquired Synergy Si-core Sakic
Skates: Bauer Vapor THG...not quite XX
In your opinion what stick is better the tps/response rubber or Easton/synergey?
Helmet: Itech (forget witch kind)
Gloves: CCM (420)
Pants: Bauer (supreme)
Skates: CCM (vector)
Stick:tps response rubber
The Easton Synergy Rubber is much better imo, i havent had my tps long and its already starting to break down. Also the Synergy is lighter and i think i get a better shot off with it
nurminen31 11-28-2004, 03:47 PM Pads: 32" Brian's Demons (int)-I love these pads, Ibarely need a stick with these-nothing gets under them-big rebounds though
Glove: Vaughn T4040-so old its too hard to rate- (should be getting my vapor in jan.) :handclap:
Blocker: TPS Bionic int. Durability sucks-my finger-guards broke from the fingers in a year-all of them-Super light though-very comfortable
Skates: Bauer 3000-light, durable, comfortable-cant complain
Mask: Eddy Tusk-great, but hard shots to head tend to unbutton the straps.
Pants: McKennys-love them except whenever I getup, my thigh boards get stuck under them, so im always flexing my knees during games.
Chest protector: TPS Icecap(need a new one)- comfortable, just got too small-looking into getting a new one.
hotgoalie11565 11-28-2004, 10:13 PM Wow. Cool that there are so many goalies out there. Here's the rundown on my stuff.
Mask-Badger Elite w/cateye cage
C/A- All I know for sure is that it's really old. I think it's a CSS. But I've done a lot of modifications to it. I've added shoulder flaps and a throat collar. It was also set up for a right handed goalie. So being left handed, I moved the forearm pad to the left arm.
Blocker- ITech X Factor 4.8
Catcher- Vaughn Legacy T2000. I paid $75 for it new. It has some fugly coloring to it; (White with gold and navy trim). A couple of years ago I added a skate lace pocket to it.
Pants- Victoriaville
Pads- Heaton Helite III. I've also modded these to no end. Since I got them I've added knee lifts, thighboards, outer calf protection and a second boot strap.
Skates- Bauer Reactor 1000. These I won on ebay last season for $100. Great skates for the money.
Stick- Bauer Supreme 7000 Cujo pattern. My backup is a Sher Wood 9950 Thibault pattern. They are both foam injected, and I find them to be more durable than wood sticks. But I think my next stick is going to be a Sher Wood Vokoun pattern. That one just feels really good to me.
jiggs 10 12-03-2004, 01:32 AM Helmet: Jofa Gretzky model, most of the time. Also have a 1983 CCM, but rarely wear it (too heavy and hot).
Elbow pads: Canadians, circa 1983. Need to tape the straps on, but otherwise I still like them better than anything new I've tried.
Pants: Rarely wear them, but own a pair made by Hesspelar (sp.).
Gloves: Bauer 3000's. Love 'em.
Skates: Bauer 100's, Daoust 501's, but I just borrowed a pair of Nike V12's, so I may upgrade. I hate the new skates, they look stupid, but if they fit...
Stick: Christian Bros. (yes, they are back in business), Sher-Wood 5030 (Coffey pattern), and an Easton 2-piece piece of crap a kid gave me for free. I'm old-school, so wood is really the only stick for me, although I've tried a couple of 2-=piece sticks that were OK, so maybe I'll try to switch to that. But I will NEVER spend $180 on a hockey stick! I played in high school with $9 sticks!
DaveyCrockett 12-03-2004, 06:28 AM Helmet-Navy Bauer 4000
Skates-Nike V9's
Pants-Pair of older high level bauers
Shoulder pads-Old, skimpy Itech pads
Elbow pads-crappy F2 Hespelers
Shin Pads-crappy F2 Hespelers
Stick-Sherwood 5030 Crosby curve
Gloves-Dirt cheap Vic gloves
Malefic74 12-03-2004, 08:52 AM Stick: Christian Bros. (yes, they are back in business), Sher-Wood 5030 (Coffey pattern), and an Easton 2-piece piece of crap a kid gave me for free. That is so funny. Half the forwards on my team absolutely swear by the Coffey curve on the 5030s. I've heard more than one mention that if there was a one-piece composite with a Coffey curve they'd pay ridiculous cash to get their hands on it.
icelord6 12-03-2004, 10:22 AM Pads- CCM Blockade Turek pro-return, mmmm so light and seal the five hole amazingly. Would only trade for a set of RBK'S or custom V-2's
Catcher- CCM Blockade, stock. Also very light, got one stinger in 5 months with it.
Blocker- CCM Blockade, stock. Aagin, light, haven't felt a thing through it. I'll never go back to a thick blocker.
Chest protector- Don Simmons Matrix. Pretty much a carbon copy of the Koho 590, but protects just as well.
Mask- Don Simmons Matrix CSA approved. Nice mask for the pricem, but once it cracks, HELLLLLLOOO SPORTMASK!
Pants- TPS GP7, nothing special, good set, I'd rather have the Bauer Supreme pros or CCM Blockade pro.
Skates- Bauer 1000's, I'm getting Graf 750's pretty soon.
Sticks- Koho 590, Nurminen pro- pattern with a trigger grip and a stock CCM Heaton 10, Broduer curve.
Jock- Koho 490, want the Koho pro.
DynamoAO 12-03-2004, 12:15 PM Would only trade for a set of RBK'S or custom V-2's
Are the V-2's the Vapor 2's?? I've heard about them, but havent seen em.
Rabid Ranger 12-03-2004, 01:46 PM I'm primarily a roller hockey players....so:
Helmet: CCM HG652 with an Itech RBE 1 half-shield
Elbow pads: Easton Ultra-lite
Pants: CCM Maverick
Shinguards: Vic
Gloves: Eagle X 70
Skates: Nike HiHo Silver
Girdle: CCM 452
Stick: Easton Synergy (Yzerman pattern)

Did you do something to make them break, or was it just the glove?
I've had a set special-ordered to fit my hands (yet be big enough to actually block stuff) and match my pads, but I don't want to waste the money on a piece of **** product.
nurminen31 12-03-2004, 06:28 PM Are the V-2's the Vapor 2's?? I've heard about them, but havent seen em.
The V2 is a Vaughn Pad-the Vapor2s look exactly like the Vapor ones-hit stores in March-only to get Vapor 2 stuff is to customize it( :handclap: my gloves coming in jan. ;) )

No-they just broke on their own-some Bionics have like a forward glove in them for the hand-kinda weird. My only problem with it is those broken finger starps-everything else is awsome-wouldnt be hard to so them back on, but I dont feel like doing that, and its not noticable at all.

Ahhhhhh thanks for explaining that. I have been interested in the Vapor line for quite a while. I hope to pick up a set of the pads when I get my tax return.
Do you know how much the customization would cost? Would I need it done directly through Bauer or could I go to a Bauer dealer?

I saw one of the Bauer reps at a tournament in September and have been in contact with her and ordered my Vapor 2 glov the othr night-theyre not really making any more original vapors.
About the cost-there is no upcharge for customization :handclap: but it is an expensive glove at 399. I was really interested in the Vapor stuff when I heard about it, and I needed a new glove, so I did some research and tried the glove on a couple different times and decided to get it. Hopefully Bauer will continue to improve its goalie equipment(I tied on some Supreme stuff last year and didnt like it) but it looks like theyve finally made the jump into the boxy square flat equipment era.
DynamoAO 12-03-2004, 09:06 PM $399 for the glove?! Every site/catelog I've gotten has em from $175-225...

Probobly because I had to get it directly from Bauer-so I guess technically there is no upcharge for custom but rather, you have to pay the real price rather than having a stock one marked down by a retailer.
DynamoAO 12-03-2004, 11:49 PM Whoa! Now i'm checking the stock prices from various sites and they are $330-$350...I dont get the sudden hike in prices...
DynamoAO 12-04-2004, 10:59 AM Well I just got new Mission Warps for under 100$
Pants or gloves??? Either way you got ripped :x
DynamoAO 12-04-2004, 11:45 AM Ahhhhhhh I was gonna say....I picked up some Mission Warp pants for $30 and I know the gloves sell for $50.
Canadian Chris 12-04-2004, 03:17 PM well..they're crap...:D...lol....seriously...the warp stuff, is like bottom of the line mission gear. I've personally had a lot of problems with the skates this year and a lot of returns. I don't suggest them at all to customers, at least I try not to.
