Team in Montreal : Yes or NoAlexander Ovechkin 11-04-2004, 12:52 PM It can have a team in montreal ?? I said yes ! CHRDANHUTCH 11-04-2004, 08:17 PM The Q has rejected any and all attempts to return the Q TO Montreal after the dismal effort of the Rocket that forced them to PEI. Phil Laugher 11-04-2004, 08:38 PM I'm surpriseds there isn't even one in one of the suburbs. If I remember my Quebec geography correctly, Drummondville, at 90 minutes away, is the closest team to the biggest city in the region. That is odd to say the least. However, teams in Montreal, Laval, Verdun, Granby, etc., etc. must have failed for a reason (Montreal because of the dismal attendance, of course - will assume the same for the others). I don't doubt for a second that there will be future attempts to land another team in the Montreal area, but that may be a few years down the road yet. Alexander Ovechkin 11-08-2004, 06:07 PM Grr i want a team in montreal !! Bruno8 11-08-2004, 11:33 PM With a good ownership group, I feel it could work in Laval. But there's a need for a new arena first. I'd love to see it anywhere in the Montreal area. Alexander Ovechkin 11-09-2004, 05:07 PM With a good ownership group, I feel it could work in Laval. During the lock out , he can play in Bell Center . Bruno8 11-10-2004, 12:12 PM The Maurice Richard Arena didn't work out at all for the Rocket. I feel it's way too far away from bars and restaurants and the rest of the fun of Montreal. Bell Centre is a much better location, but the Rocket management had to give tickets away for free to get 6000 fans to a Q game. Perhaps the problem was the Rocket management. It was pretty inept, but I'm not sure a team would work well in the city of Montrel regardless of the people in charge. I would love to see it work though. It was pretty inept, but I'm not sure a team would work well in the city of Montrel regardless of the people in charge. I would love to see it work though. The one Q game I saw at the Bell Centre, there were six HUNDRED people there, which included a contingient of 100 from Halifax, and many of the Montreal tickets were given away. That is not worthy of a team. Yes, it may well have been inept leadership from the Rocket front office (I did not see a single advertisement for the Rocket in any of the dailies). Trying to start a team out of the Bell Centre will be a failed venture, again, if done. You'd need it in some of these suburban parts of Montreal, where there might be a market. But aren't many of these locales filled with successful NAHL teams now? Shocking as it may seem, there may not be a market for junior hockey in Montreal anymore. LaLaLaprise 11-10-2004, 03:47 PM I cant believe Yes is winning. It didnt work once because of fan support, what makes people think it will work a 2nd time. Phil Laugher 11-10-2004, 04:38 PM The logic that a team should succeed in Montreal must be greater than the reality regarding their past failures in most people's minds. montreal 11-10-2004, 05:30 PM IMO the Rocket did a bad job of promoting the team, but still fan support was very low. I can't see the league going back anytime soon. If they do, hopefully Savard isn't the owner. :shakehead =CH= 11-10-2004, 07:32 PM It's been proven junior hockey doesn't work in Montreal. Seems pointless to try it again but I know they will anyway because of the sponsorship, media perks. Kravitch 11-10-2004, 08:41 PM I think they should keep CHL teams in reletively small cities. I'm not saying get rid of the Hitmen or Giants, but putting a team in a small city will make that city have a more big league feel to it. Kane 11-11-2004, 12:34 PM I agree with Laprise. Although it would be nice to have a team in Montreal. LaLaLaprise 11-11-2004, 01:24 PM I think it would be GREAT to have ateam in Montreal...it wont work though. There have been teams in Montreal, Verdun, Laval and Longueil...all in the Montreal area and all 4 failed in fan support. A city of 3 million who can only attract 500 fans a game is just brutal. And i agree, teams in smaller markets work better. It becomes more of a community team, and the community will support it better. Jeffrey 11-16-2004, 03:25 AM I would like a last try .. now that I have the cash i could buy season tickets ... when the rocket were there i was like 15 and no cash .. so i didnt ever go to a rocket game .. now it would be different .. :D neg marron 11-17-2004, 05:34 PM The Q has rejected any and all attempts to return the Q TO Montreal after the dismal effort of the Rocket that forced them to PEI. no hockey in montreal is like no snow in winter Coach JP 11-20-2004, 08:11 PM Bring back a team at St-Hyacinthe! x-bob 11-20-2004, 09:47 PM no!....Montreal isn't a hockey city, It's a Habs city | ||
