Louder Than Words: Senior Forward Barry Tallackson

November 3, 2004 - Barry Tallackson is quiet. Ask any Golden Gopher to rank the team’s most outspoken players and Tallackson’s name is sure to be listed near the bottom. He’s not Minnesota’s spokesman. He leaves that role up to the gregarious Judd Stevens and Chris Harrington, two of the four captains. Sheepishly, Tallackson would agree that his Mom was right when she said, “Remember, Barry, actions speak louder than words.” It's a motto that the senior forward from Detroit Lakes, Minn., has adhered to during his time in Maroon and Gold.

However, Tallackson might not want to readily admit to heeding the words of his mother. Perhaps, to maintain the rough exterior that hockey players like to possess with their hockey hair or playoff beards, there exists a more appropriate motto for him to live by. Who better than the words of one of history’s tough, but good guys, Theodore Roosevelt, to give us a slogan about the virtue of action as opposed to words? The original RoughRider provided the perfect maxim for Tallackson to conform to when the 26th President of the United States said in 1901, “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” ..............................

Most big lanky F's are going to be late bloomers and Tallackson is going to be the same . Some kids are going to be drafted with size in mind and will never make it. I could drop a few names, we'll see what happens to the kid the Rag$ have at Dartmouth. Hopefully Barry figures out that it's a pretty good way to make a living and uses his assets [like the good shot] to give NJ reason to include him in all future plans.

Tallackson was interviewed between the second and third periods of the game last night. I had no idea what he said, as my friend called and I had the sound on mute. In fact, it was hard to pay attention to the game at all, because my friend would not shut up. lol He was watching the game, too, but he was looking at some other prospects.

I wanted the Devs to draft Gino Guyer, and after seeing him play last night, I have not changed my mind.

If anyone else saw the game, please let me know what Barry said and how he looked, as I saw a lot of Guyer, but I did not see #27 do much at all. Two trips to the kitchen and my friend's constant chatter did not make it easy to focus on the game.

Later... :help:

I was watching the Michigan State game last night (Fri), so I couldn't tell you. However, I did see tonight's game (Sat). Tallackson played very well. Did a nice job of taking bodies out of plays and creating some good scoring opportunities as well as uses his large frame to screen opposing goalies (in this case, Bruckler). I just wished that he would drive to the net more often. When he does that, he's far more effective offensively (IMO).

BTW, if anyone wants to know how the game went, please check out my Game Notes (http://www.hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=112442) over on the NCAA boards.
