Louder Than Words: Senior Forward Barry Tallackson
November 3, 2004 - Barry Tallackson is quiet. Ask any Golden Gopher to rank the team’s most outspoken players and Tallackson’s name is sure to be listed near the bottom. He’s not Minnesota’s spokesman. He leaves that role up to the gregarious Judd Stevens and Chris Harrington, two of the four captains. Sheepishly, Tallackson would agree that his Mom was right when she said, “Remember, Barry, actions speak louder than words.” It's a motto that the senior forward from Detroit Lakes, Minn., has adhered to during his time in Maroon and Gold.
However, Tallackson might not want to readily admit to heeding the words of his mother. Perhaps, to maintain the rough exterior that hockey players like to possess with their hockey hair or playoff beards, there exists a more appropriate motto for him to live by. Who better than the words of one of history’s tough, but good guys, Theodore Roosevelt, to give us a slogan about the virtue of action as opposed to words? The original RoughRider provided the perfect maxim for Tallackson to conform to when the 26th President of the United States said in 1901, “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” ..............................
