GentlemanOfLeisure 11-03-2004, 10:49 AM THere should be a petition started to show our support for using replacement players. I don't think any fan would suffer watching players who want to play hockey play, as opposed to bozo's like Damphousse or Pronger.
Should we start this petition??

Brodeur 11-03-2004, 01:22 PM It's one thing for hockey fanatics on a message board to say we'd watch replacement players..........it's another to see if the season ticket holders would pay good money to watch second tier talent.

Here here.
If you're paying $50 to go out to the CAA you want to see Stevens, Brodeur, Elias, Gomez vs. Primeau, Roenick, Gagne etc.
You don't want to pay $50 to watch players that couldn't beat the River Rats.

I doubt the tickets would be full price, after all, these guys wouldnt be paid very much

Even if they weren't full price, I would not support replacement players. AHL games can be seen for $10-15.
Also the amount the players get paid doesn't mean ticket prices will drop. If the NHL magically instituted a $31 million hard cap tomorrow, the Flyers and Devils payrolls would have to be cut in half .... yet the ticket prices won't drop a cent.

THis is what I mean, look how arrogant these guys are?? We need hockey, I hate to say it but the uniform is the most important thing, not the guy in it. THese guys have to be reminded of that fact. We need replacement players. I think 20% of the NHL guys would cross the picket line anyway right away. We need to show the owners that us as fans would be all for replacement players, otherwise the will go on more than a year, thus it might kill the NHL forever, this is serious stuff.
Do you want to save hockey or not???????????????????

I root for the crest on the front, but as a season ticket holder, I'm not paying $2,000 a year to watch a bunch of scrubs.
IMO there is no way that 20% cross the line.
Im not anti-NHLPA. Both the owners and players are equally guilty, IMO if anything the owners are more at fault than the players.
GentlemanOfLeisure 11-03-2004, 02:31 PM Its better than watching nothing. If the NHL misses an entire season, I am telling you right now, the league will die! This is the one League that can't survive allienating there fans.
openicehit04 11-03-2004, 02:33 PM The only solution I thought of was start watching baseball and now basketball. You would be amazed how many conversations you can have talking about those two then finding someone 2 to talk to about hockey.

I'd rather watch paint dry!
Hellsempire 11-03-2004, 04:48 PM Too late for that and the season will be next to be cancelled as today the NHL All-Star game in Atlanta has been officially cancelled... :shakehead
NJDraft 11-03-2004, 09:28 PM I'll watch a little Col Bb, as in very little. The NBA? Haven't seen any since the Magic/Bird era. It's unwatchable.
Once Jan '05 begins there will be a few intence days of negotiation. If nothing comes to a positive result I expect the NHL to formally announce a drop-dead date, putting a gun to the head of NHLPA. If they don't give up what the owners need, the season's chance of a partial sch. is over. Players lose about 900k on average, that is never made up. If nothing happens in the summer of '05 that's when the league might start looking into replacements.
openicehit04 11-03-2004, 11:38 PM I find NBA the closest type of sport to hockey. Its back and forth action unlike football baseball. Soccer is like that but it takes 2 long to get down the field.
Vanya 11-04-2004, 12:21 AM I could never accept the NBA as a replacement for the NHL. Never.

It will be way too late when January comes... :( The NHL needs a 45 day period to the start of the season and if there is going to be a season or half season like '95, both sides would have to make a deal no later than December 1st which 45 days after that would be January 15th to begin the season... If the NHL and the NHLPA does not have an agreement by December 1st, the 2004-2005 NHL season will be lost... :shakehead
Brodeur 11-04-2004, 02:46 AM Just came back from my first ECHL game.......definitely a noticeable drop in talent. Ticket cost was $6, and that felt about right. I'd be a bit skeptical if NHL owners would charge me $20 for the same ticket to see these same guys in different jerseys.

where do I sign?? Hell yeah! I will pay a reasonable fee to see replacement players Yes, current players will join in. Let pronger (whats he won anyway) & damphousse stay @ home with their families.

NJDraft 11-04-2004, 08:07 PM "Hopefully we get it done in January like we did the last time, but I don't think that's what's going to happen." Turner Stevenson
When I mentioned a Jan.1 week of final negotiation I was assuming that there had been significant progress made and that this was the absolute end. I think the shortest camp you could have would be 3 weeks with only 2-3 exhib. games. I honestly don't think the DD date is Dec.1 but we'll see.
From TSN
Q - McKenzie: Bill, what's the drop dead date for when we lose this
hockey season?
A - Daly: We don't have a drop dead date in mind, Bob, we're 100%
committed to the negotiation process.
Q - McKenzie: So are you saying that if on March 1st you got an agreement
there could still be a National Hockey League regular season?
A - Daly: I'm not saying anything. I'm saying we're going to negotiate
until we have an agreement, then we're going to take a look at the
calendar and see what makes sense for the league, for the clubs, for the
players and for the fans.

Yes, you are right, there is no way 20% cross the line, it'd be closer to 40% that would cross the line within the first 6 months. You don't hear all of the players speak, you hear the rich players speak, they are a minority. Most if not all of the players would be back within 3 seasons, guarentee. They will come back rather than do nothing.
Verdict? Replacement players is the way to go. So long as they do drop the ticket prices. I will agree with the people here who stress that point. IF they drop the ticket prices by what? 50%? Then it is something that is worth doing.
