MightyAdam 10-29-2004, 03:24 PM Hey guys. What do you think the potential of Corey Perry is vs. Ryan Getzlaf in the NHL? You know what? Perry currently has 13 goals in 13 games in the OHL. What was that guy that was supposed to be a great eventual scorer in the NHL? Oh yeah, Crosby. He has 9 goals. Now, I know he is 17 and Perry is 19. But hey, that is only 2 years. If that carries over to NHL level, that means Perry can be a big time scorer in the NHL. I'm sorry but anybody that scores like that has to be an eventual top scorer in the NHL. I can see him being a 30 goal a year scorer eventually. Anybody who consistently put up 100 points or more in the OHL has to be considered to put up at least 20 goals a year in the NHL. Heck, our own Mike Leclerc put up 20 goals in the NHL a couple years ago and he is far less talented then Perry...not to mention Perry is 6'3. I wouldn't be half excited about Perry's potential if he was 6' or 6'1 but he is 6'3. Anybody with that kind of talent should be considered to be awesome for any team. I bet you now that if the Draft went around again, and Perry was only 18, he could probably be a number 2 draft for a team...at least top 10 potential. When the league starts again, the Ducks will be ready. The Ducks never had Leclerc and Niedermeyer play in the same game together last year due to personal injuries. And the Ducks played better when at least one of them were both playing. If you have both of them playing on a team that already has Federov, Ruchin, etc...then the Ducks have already imprroved and could probably be ok without even adding Perry or Getzlaf. You know what I admire about Sykora? I think he is so dedicated to having Anaheim's chemisty that what does he do? He wants to learn Russian style of hockey, to probably be able to play better on a line with Federov. So, what does he do? He decided to play in Russia. That is awesome. I can defintely see him and Lupul on a line with Federov. Then, Niedermeyer and Leclerc would be with Ruchin. Already, with Nidermeyer and Leclerc healthy, the team is that much more physical. So, why not add another physical player and one who can score at the physical level, the whole team seems so lethal. Not to mention, Glencross and Chistov are still availiable if the team needs anyone and if they were both on the 4th line with Andy McDonald, that would be the best 4th line in the NHL. Foster has scored 2 goals already for Cincinati and at 6'5, 230 pounds, and with a shot over 100 mph, the Ducks look like they will be a team to beat next year. I still feel there is a chance the Ducks can redeem a season, if the barganing starts happening. So, look at this potnetial lineup.
-Sykora -Federov -Lupul
-Leclerc - Ruchin -Niedermeyer
-Getzlaf -Pahlsson -Perry
-Chistov -McDonald -Glencross
-Salei -Ozolinsh
-Vishnevski -Skoula
-Carney -Foster
Flames Draft Watcher 10-29-2004, 04:31 PM Perry has some work to do on his skating, intensity and physical play. He reminds me of an Eric Daze.
Personally I like Getzlaf much better. He's a prototypical powerforward in the Tkachuk vein. He's also NHL ready whereas Perry still needs some work.
Boomhower 10-29-2004, 06:32 PM Perry is pure intensity, you could say his intensity is misguided at times. But you don't become one of the most hated players in the OHL (amongst fans and opposition players) by playing a passive game and not caring. Nobody wants to win (and score, for that matter) more than Corey Perry and he'll go through a wall to get it done.

first off, I thought you weren't writting up these long opinion threads anymore?
secondly Chistov and McDonald are not fourth line players. They are useless out there in that role.
The thing is after the lockout finally ends the team is going to look a lot different.
For example, Ozolinsh is gone. He is a UFA July 2005 and there will be no hockey before Oct 05 so consider him gone already.

Something the team needs badly, if you ask me. The Ducks need heart.

Ever heard of Simon Gamache or Peter Sarno? Dan Cleary or Yannick Lehoux? A lot of players dominate Juniors and fail to make even a dent in the NHL. Perry could very well make an impact but he could just as easily be added to the list of players that dominated juniors but couldn't crack the NHL.

If Lehoux continues, he will crack the line-up next season and perhaps the NHL too. ;)

I'm more of a Getzlaf fan too, but I'm not as familiar with Corey Perry. Getzlaf is in a class of his own in the WHL, when he wants to be....it's just hard for him to remain interested when he is head and shoulders above everyone else in the league. Everything just comes so easy for him....one thing this year I've noticed is that he is using his body much more than in years past, throwing some monster checks, a good sign that he is really starting to physically mature....he'd be a rookie of the year candidate had their been a full NHL schedule this year.

Ryan Stone- 1.59 ppg this year
Ryan Getzlaf- 1.2 ppg this year
So, obviously Ryan Stone is much better than Ryan Getzlaf, right?

A guy that may not be the best one on the ice ...but damn does he have heart...
Cory Pecker...
and Shane O'Brien as well...
too bad there isnt the space for these to...the locker room would be much improved with these two guys on the team...(in the attitude and passion department)

I agree about the passion and attitude lacking on the Ducks its been a problem for years. It was stupid to let Severson go because that was a step in the right direction. Konkopka,O'Brien, and Rome may help
