I wish he'd play against some tougher competition, but I'm sure he'd rather play near his home. Does this mean he will be playing the Trenton Titans?

Cool, I'll definitely go see him November 9th. Just to see Gomez is well worth the price of admission to an ECHL game.

I believe Gomez is making $500 a week playing with his buddies. Igor Larionov offered him a million bucks, or something close to that figure, to play in Russia. And Gomer turned him down. Pretty amazing for a modern-day athlete.

This kid is cool and should never be traded from the Devils!!!

I hope that SI or THN or one of the other major magazines does a feature on Gomez declining to play for big bucks to stay near home and play with his friends.

he did go over to russia but said he didn't like it so he came back. Tonights game is over and he got an assist and a shootout goal the arena was two over capacity with 6,453. How can he say that he's not taking anyones job. It sucks to think that some kid trying to break into pro hockey couldn't play in the ECHL because Scott Gomez took his spot. I might be cool to play in your home town, but if I were other players in the ECHL I would be pissed off.

he hasn't taken anybodys job yet. From what I am hearing BJ young might be let go but he runs his own business and he is about two or so months out of game shape

Of course he has. I'm not talking about one specific guy. I'm saying in general there's one less spot because of Scott Gomez.

How do they have a right to be pissed? It's one thing if you lose your job to someone inferior, but how can you be pissed when the person replacing you is 100x more qualified and can do the job 100x better? It's just sour grapes in that situation. People look at this like it's something more, but in reality it is just an occupation and the most capable worker should get the job, IMO.

Why isn't he playing at the highest level possible. Gomez playing in the ECHL is a joke for him. How can you be pissed, well the fact that he doesn't need that $500 a week is a place to start. Tere are guys out there not playing because Gomez is. It is supposed to be a developmental league, not a league for NHL ALL STARS. The fact that you can't see anything wrong with this is ridiculous.

The guy is playing in front of his home town fans. The team saved a spot on the team for him, FCOL. He is bringing in a lot of revenue for the team that they would never have had if he decided not to play for them. Sure, somebody isn't playing because of him but since they saved a spot on the roster for him and wanted to have him, they didn't need to cut somebody in favor of Gomez.

It's a developmental league, but last I checked, there weren't too many NHL affiliated prospects on Alaska's roster. Don't mean to be a negative Nancy, but I'd be surprised to see more than a couple of their younger guys make it to the AHL.

Right now, I'm sure they like playing in front of a sellout crowd at home.
