refs give Rochester a 5 on 3 powerplay...

Lupul Boarding, Foster Roughing...Thats a tough call on the second penalty I would think someone from Rochester could have been given a roughing call to cancel out whatever Foster did in the pile up after the Lupul hit...

Rochester ties it on a rebound goal after a good save by Bryz.

end of first period.

George Davis update:

http://www.kansascityoutlaws.com/team/news/?id=882

Oct.23:

"For the second night on this hellish road trip, Outlaw enforcer Big George Davis showed why women admire him and men fear him. Davis did his best to rally the troops by going toe to toe with the inappropriately named Jason Lawmaster in the second period. In addition to the fighting penalty, both men did 2 minutes for swinging their sticks. Davis also decked Muskegon goon David Ambler in the 3rd."

Oct. 22:

"Big George Davis decked Mechanic enforcer Brandon Fleener in the 2nd period- the first fight involving a Kansas City Outlaw. Davis also scored an unassisted goal in the first period, his first."

Looking good so far, maybe in 2-3 years he's good enough to play in NHL, that would help me get over the trading of Peat...

Piecing together from game reports (before injuries)
Kunitz - Holmqvist - Smirnov
Glencross - Brent - Lupul
Chistov - Perrault - Parenteau
Stepp - Konopka - Pecker

Malec - Foster
Popovic - O'Brien
Rome - Brookbank

Does this look right guys?
Kunitz, Smirnov and Brent are now injured. Penner and Pohanka should get a look.

As for players close to the show,
Lupul and Bryzgalov will move up for sure when the NHL starts
Chistov, Holmqvist, Smirnov and Kunitz will be challenging for a spot
One of Malec, Foster or Popovic will also get a spot
Glencross, Perrault, Parenteau and O'Brien are all a year or so away

If really all of these players prove to have NHL quality, the Ducks GM (whoever it will be) will have to make a few decisions. If you count on Getzlaf and Perry being in the mix next season, along with Rogers (maybe), Korsunov or Smid we have half a lineup of prospects who could step in.

Great depth and lots of trade bait is brewing on the farm :)

Refresh my memory, why was Alen suspended?

Kevin Forbes
10-28-2004, 11:46 AM
non hockey related injury, which could mean anything
either way, he got hurt doing something he probably shouldn't of and so instead of being able to put him on the injured reserve, he's serving a team suspension until he's healthy

http://www.cincinnatimightyducks.com/news/stories/press-rel/04-05/wedderburn-released.10.27.04.htm

"The Cincinnati Mighty Ducks recalled right wing Sean O'Connor from ECHL San Diego and released defenseman Tim Wedderburn on Wednesday."

Looks like O'Connor will be in Friday's game. (what he will bring to the lineup...he had 22 pims in only 2 games for San Diego)

Penner was in the lineup already for Brent. That leaves Pohanka and O'Connor to go into the lineup for Smirnov and Kunitz.

The Ducks will have ZERO healthy scratches.

Having Smirnov go down is a shame because it seemed like he was getting is crap together finally.

Maybe Chistov can step it up and play like he should.

He can be a Duck fan and think Smirnov blows.. but the fact is I think Smirnov was rushed to the NHL and he's still big and he still has skill. If he ever puts it all together he could be a decent 2nd or 3rd liner, it's just that with every season that goes by that if gets a whole lot bigger. I just find it hard to give up on a 22 or 23 year old.

McDonald19
10-29-2004, 09:54 PM
well here is my take on Smirnov...

I saw him practicing with Rucchin,McDonald, Leclerc at Disney Ice before the Rookie Tournament and he looked very focused and like he is working his butt off to make it back to the NHL...and then he gets off to a hot start in the AHL and then gets hurt...i do feel bad for him...

Smirnov always looks like a badass in practice, even when he just came over for a week the year he was drafted. It hasn't translated to any sort of success at any professional level. He wouldn't be the first super-talented guy to flop under pressure.

He's starting to steal minutes from guys who need them more.

IMO, Smirnov is a lot more focused on hockey than most of the other younger players. With some guidance, I think he will develope into a premier NHL player.

He has diplayed some rather remarkable skills and talent.
Only time will tell.

Of course I'm a Ducks fan! I watch every frikin' game!

Maybe what I'm trying to say is that Holmqvist is as good as Smirnov... It is hard to completely give up on him, but you can also lead a horse to water... I just don't see him giving much to the team when there are plenty of guys who can do the same thing. No one would care about Smirnov if he hadn't been a 1st rounder... There are lots of younger guys who seem to be working harder.

Last year he had recurring injuried with his shoulder, if it's the same shoulder now, then he could be in a lot of trouble.

Even the best young players can look foolish when unprepared to play against the worlds best.

this may be the case for Smirnov, only time will tell.

Hey guys,

Not a regular Ducks fan, but I was at the back to back games against Rochester and I thought I'd weigh in on things for those of you who might not have seen the game first hand.

First, Holmqvist was much more of a thorn in Rochester's side than Smirnov, albeit Smirnov got knocked out of the action early in the second game.

Also, I expected Chistov to be a bigger factor in the games. Though, speaking with the Rochester head coach before the game, he didn't. He said Chistov is very skilled but his attitude about being in the "A" was evident since last year.

I will say that Chistov should have had the goal in the shootout. He put a move on Askey that was so smooth, but somehow Askey dropped his stick (could have been on purpose, but I think it was just because Chistov frazzled his mind) and that alone screwed up what would have been a sure goal.

Brookbank is impressive simply because he can play a regular shift and add an element of toughness to your lineup...Rochester doesn't have much of that. Unfortunately he fought a guy half his size and got bloodied....but I disgress.

Whoever fought Thorburn also lost...either Brookbank or O'Brien....but in the first game, someone made Paetsch from Roch look silly. Even so, it is impressive that your lineup includes more than one player that will fight when necessary yet can be counted on to play and contribute on a regular shift. Rochester's "tough" guys watched both games from the stands...neither are adept at much more than brawling.

Your goalie is so solid. I'm not even going to try to spell his name, but it was a great display of superior goaltending for sure, Rochester couldn't figure him out in regular play or shootout.

I've recently moved to Lexington for school, so Cincinnati is the closest hockey around....as long as the Amerks don't come to town the Ducks have a new fan!
