From http://www.mightyducks.com/pressbox/pressBody.asp?id=813:

ANAHEIM, Calif. - FSN West 2 announced that the sports television network has scheduled 10 classic games to air from the Mighty Ducks 11-year franchise history. The game action will be shown with analysis and a look at the game’s historical significance, with Head Coach Mike Babcock and analysts John Ahlers and Brian Hayward. FSN West and FSN West 2 has scheduled a total of 17 classic games, including seven Los Angeles Kings’ contests.
The 10 Mighty Ducks’ classic games include seven postseason contests from Anaheim’s 2003 run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Additionally, the club’s first playoff win and its Game Six victory over Phoenix in the 1997 NHL Playoffs will be part of the package.

The first game shown on FSN West 2 will air this coming Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. The contest features the most exciting finish in the 11-year rivalry between the Ducks and Kings, a 6-5 Anaheim win on January 22, 2003. Trailing 3-0, the Kings scored five unanswered goals to take a two-goal lead, only to see Anaheim score three times in the last nine minutes to win.

Some good choices in there. The Game 2 against Dallas was kind of crappy. I'll watch the last 5 minutes, at least.

I wonder if they will keep adding 10 more classic games for every month that passes in the lockout...

How about showing the penalty record games for the Ducks:

12/8/01 at Calgary

and

3/13/98 at Dallas

I was thinking the exact same thing. That touch to Sykora was just brilliant.

10-14-2004, 05:09 PM
Adam Oates (that year he was on the Ducks) was sooo sneaky. The things he would do to avoid getting hit (without giving up on the play) were absolutely brilliant. I still remember the game (I think it was Vancouver) where Kariya passed it to him while he was in front of the net, and he was tied up with the dman, so he kicked it (one timed it) to Sykora on the empty side. One more of Sykora's 34 slam dunk goals...

lux_interior
10-14-2004, 06:39 PM
My most pointed memory of Oates from that year was in Game 4 versus the Red Wings. I believe the Wings had scored first to go up 1-0, but on a delayed penalty against the Wings, Dandenault (I believe) coasted back to touch up the puck. Oates hustling back lifted Dandenault's stick, picked up the puck and feathered a pass over to Kariya. Goal. Game tied.

One of 34 that counts just as much as a beauty one-timer top shelf, from the top of the circle.

:) It's great they are showing some of the games again since a lot of peole didn't record them. We put them all on DVD's but having the added bonus of Babcock's commentary makes it worth re-recording them.

Spankatola Jamnuts
10-21-2004, 11:03 PM
Well, yeah. It's always been that way, back when he was good. The 10 or so minutes after he returned from the Stevens hit he was his old OLD self, crashing the net - he must have had about 6 scoring chances.

Lyons71
10-22-2004, 01:36 AM
Hey, if all someone got for smashing me in the mouth with their stick (and ruining a good season for me, as well as giving me horrible PCS) was 4 games, I would think twice about going to the net too...

Spankatola Jamnuts
10-22-2004, 07:22 AM
Was it four games or two?

Anyway - he didn't really start sucking until the season AFTER he came back from pcs.

Lyons71
10-22-2004, 07:25 PM
I'm sure it was 4. And then Hartsburg (Chicago's coach) say's that Kariya is faking it (while he's missing the rest of the season) and then the Ducks hire Hartsburg, eventually as coach. :handclap:

10 games for interference, 4 games for stick in mouth...

I don't know if I can take watching the 03 Playoff games...I mean they were great, but knowing how close they got, and then shut out in Game 7.

I agree on both points.

I assume they are going to add more games in January/Feb/Mar/April...

I'd suggest:

1. First Ducks game. 7-2 loss to Detroit on October 8, 1993.

2. First Ducks win. 4-3 over Edmonton on October 13, 1993.

others: Kariya's first game. Selanne's first game as a Duck.

Lyons71
11-19-2004, 02:38 PM
Or add the game from the first few seasons (I don't really remember that well) where they scored in overtime with .3 seconds left in the game.

I would like to see the 8-6 win over the wings and some old Kariya/Selanne ones. Mostly, just to try to see/remember what made them so good then...

11-19-2004, 03:06 PM
That game was against the Islanders, btw. It was either Douris or Carnbak with the goal.

Pahlsson is a better penalty killer.

I'll give you checking and grit although Pahlsson is a good checker.

Pahlsson isn't overrated. He does everything well. The only thing that sets him back is finishing ability.

What stands out to me in this game is how many grinders the Ducks had.

Rucchin was injuried this game, so there was :

All Stars: Kariya and Selanne.

Over the Hill: Kurri and Bellows.

Grinders: Joe Sacco, Kevin Todd, Warren Rychel, Ken Baumgartner, Ted Drury, Sean Pronger, Mark Janssens,

Yeah. Interesting Brian Hayward talking about how good Dmitri Mironov was that year. Daigneault was a good offensive defensemen as well.

Dan Trebil was the other D-man in this game (Jason Marshall played some of the other playoff games). He never turned out to be much in the NHL, traded to Pittsburgh for a 5th round pick in 2000 draft. (used to draft Bill Cass).
